I am so looking forward to warmer weather and spending more time outside.
We also have a vacation coming up so that's exciting.
Any fun plans for the Spring?

Also, I am taking my kid to his first dentist appointment Friday. Any tips? He doesn't particularly like getting his teeth brushed so I have no idea how they will even get him to open his mouth and examine his teeth but I'm guessing they'll figure it out?

Oh and Easter!
What does everyone do for Easter? What are your traditions? What kinds of gifts will you give your kids? I didn't grow up celebrating Easter so this is all new to me.

I took DS a couple months ago. They didn't do much but also didn't set high expectations. They took a couple x-rays with him sitting on my lap and told me as soon as he was over it, they'd stop no matter how many they got. The dentist felt around in his mouth to count teeth but they didn't attempt to clean them. It was very low key and DS didn't fight any of it, despite being a terrible teeth-brusher at home.

Easter is a holiday we rotate between our extended families. This year we'll host MIL/FIL at our place and grill or smoke. Nothing fancy.
The kids get Easter baskets with small goodies. SD's list includes flip flops, Sbux GC, a card game, bath bombs, snacks. DS will get flip flops, Crayola bath bombs, mini garden tools (he loves to help DH outside), some new dishes.
We're going to attempt an egg hunt for DS. No idea how it will go. We'll put puffs, goldfish, etc in a few plastic eggs for him.

My kids love the dentist because there's a tv screen above the chair. They turn into little screen zombies and probably don't even realize they're at the dentist. I did offer and they do recommend that you have the child sit on your lap during the first appointment, so I second that rec if he's nervous about it.

I'll combine spring plans and Easter since they're always the same week here!
My aunt is the only living member of my father's side of the family. Her husband and daughter have passed, and I don't have any living grandparents, and my father died 10 years ago. So every spring break we travel to see her.
Spring Break is always Easter week, which is also Passover, so typically we fly out to see my aunt, come home, hit my cousin's Passover seder, then fly to DH's family for Easter. It is exhausting. On top of that, DH's family refuse to add any food to their Easter menu that's Passover friendly, so there's nothing for us to eat when we're there. BIL got super annoyed at DH for asking if they could serve something other than lasagna since my family can't eat it, and then got upset when my kids ate most of the watermelon, which was the only food there they could eat.
But this year we're not going to the inlaws for Easter! We get to stay home, and I can make a Passover friendly easter, and my kids can take part in their first real egg hunt! (Last year my SIL hid mangoes instead of eggs)

billyhorrible ahhh that sounds really frustrating and I’m glad you get to skip it this year! I can’t imagine not providing food that your kids can eat or even having food they can’t eat and you having to deal with all that. Meal times with my toddler can be stressful without those restrictions and lack of accommodations from family members.

It's M's birthday month! We're taking him to the zoo and having a Dragons Love Tacos-themed birthday party. We've spent a lot of time in the last few weeks cleaning the house, and finally unpacking the last of the boxes, and generally getting ready to host 16 small children and their parents.
My family is catholic but I don't celebrate Easter... and Mh's family is skipping the Passover seder this year.

M had a meltdown at his first dentist appointment last year; he was so mad. I held him on my lap and I'll give the dentist and hygienist a lot of credit because they were patient and calm and did manage to count and clean his teeth. I don't think they took x rays. This reminds me I should call and make an appointment for him soon.

I'm nervous because we are going to a regular dentist not pediatric because there was a very small list of in-network dentists to choose from.

(Last year my SIL hid mangoes instead of eggs) I do not understand why people make a big deal of accomodating dietary restrictions. I find this so rude of the host to not accommodate your guests. Why even invite you then? My love language is feeding people so I would make sure the entire meal was something you could eat and then some.

They're $13 a dozen, and I bought taco cupcake toppers from Etsy.

We spent a lot of time talking about how cool the dentist was. How they count your teeth and they have a special straw that tickles. We talked about getting a prize at the end (pick something up from the dollar store beforehand if you have to.) We lucked out because not only did we find a Dinosaur themed dentist, but a week before we went to a children's museum that had a dentist exhibit so she got to sit in the chair there and we practiced what it would be like. Maybe you can have him watch a YouTube video of a child going to the dentist. I bet sesame Street or Daniel tiger has something. Then I would play dentist with him at home so he is the dentist and you are the patient and vice versa.

Easter for us is two fold. We celebrate both regular Easter and then MH's family does Orthodox Easter as well. This year orthodox Easter falls on the following Sunday.
We'll do a basket, egg hunt, and then DD will get a big gift from the Easter bunny. This year is a new balance bike. I found a bunch of eggs on Amazon that are prefilled with dinosaur playdough, stickers, and figures. I try not to do chocolate. I mean we need more dinosaurs like i need a hole in my head but it's better than candy and she'll love them. It's really hard not to go overboard with filling the basket. Last year was ridiculous with the amount of stuff it contained.
Easter Sunday I'll allow myself to absolutely gorge myself on candy (I've been good and stayed away so far this season). Then for Orthodox Easter I'll eat a years worth of delicious cheesy, eggy, fatty foods. So, so good.

I haven't talked to him about it yet at all and I really should prep him.

piratecat Both of my girls had no problem with the dentist and even sat through getting their teeth flossed. I admit to not doing any serious talking prior to the visit other than saying the dentist wanted to look and count their teeth. Also they sat in the chair by themselves kind of a big kid right of passage.

Worth a try?? I see we're living the same life thanks to that toddler food thread. I found DS some new utensils and ordered a set of the mini cutters for fruits and veggies. They should be here Friday. I figure it can't hurt!

Worth a try?? I've accepted that my daughter will eat voraciously and sleep peacefully at daycare, and that I never get any of those things. ::Breath:: OMG, he slept for 3.5 hours yesterday at daycare and is wide awake now in his crib an hour after I put him down to nap. 😓

piratecat depends on your kid. My youngest is up for an hour after I put him down whether he naps for hours or doesn't nap for all. But if he takes a longer nap, he's at least pleasant for all the hours he's awake.
