Guys. My dog figured out how to open our sliding door and keeps escaping. It's so fucking annoying. My boxer did that. We put a tension rod, like a curtain rod, in the door to keep her in. I'm pretty impressed that dogs can open doors.

My boxer did that. We put a tension rod, like a curtain rod, in the door to keep her in. I'm pretty impressed that dogs can open doors. Before we thought of the tension rod, we put a 2x4 in the bottom. She would paw it out. So we filled boxes with heavy stuff and piled them in front of the board, she pawed them away. She could open it faster than we could lol. The tension rod was the only thing that could keep her in.

csho you did OT linked to eating right? Can you tell me something about it? Yes, yes I can. We have seen many an OT and SLP for feeding The first step is assessing the problem. With most feeding therapists we've seen, they ask you to bring several food items from home for the first few appointments, a mix of preferred foods and non-preferred foods. They need watch your child interact with the food, they are initially looking for signs that would indicate if the child has sensory difficulties with food (taste, texture, sent) or oral motor problems preventing them from eating safely/easily or a mix of both sensory and oral motor. This takes somewhere between 30 and 50 minutes. If this initial assessment reveals the possibility of oral motor problems, you'll probably be sent to a local children's hospital for further evaluation and imaging studies. If the therapist concludes that the problem is of the sensory nature, you'll probably talk through doing exposure therapy and food chaining. You and your therapist will make feeding goals together that will last for the next six months or until all are achieved. Most of the feeding therapy sessions encourage V to prepare and select foods, set the table and sit at the table until finished. Then he assists in cleaning up after. Your therapist will also probably go over the "steps to eating" or some variation of that. 1. Tolerating seeing the food on their plate 2. Visually inspecting the food, color, size, shape 3. Smelling the food. 4. Touching the food 5. Licking or tasting 6. Eating This helps identify where in the steps your child is struggling and what their sensory profile is like. The therapist will decide what foods to introduce during sessions and they tell you how and what to introduce at home. And because your child probably some negative emotions with food, it's usually pretty fun (never forced). It's always OK if they don't eat the food, exposure is important. Another interesting thing our current therapist does, she never introduces a new therapy food by it's actual name, just in case V already has a negative association with it. It's actually really a good tactic for having him keep an open mind. We've been in and out of feeding therapy for two years, it's a bitch because progress is slow at first. It gets worse before it gets better but it's worth it if you've got a talented therapist by your side!

I haven't talked about my "disappearance" from the board much, but during that time I was shuttling V around to 12 therapy appointments a week + at least 2 hospital visits a month. It was the worst but I learned so much! Therapy makes such a big difference, we only go to 5 appointments a week now. Nowadays when I'm taking to a new therapist or Dr. for V, they always ask me if I have a medical/therapy background. Nope, just a mom who's BTDT!

csho thank you so much for this, I made a screen shot for my h, if that's okay. He has already been assessed, and the only thing they found is that he has a big tongue and that that might make his gag reflex even stronger than it already is. According the the speech therapist (she was specialised in feeding issues) ds didn't have motor issues. I'm really anxious about this, I can't really pin point why.

According the the speech therapist (she was specialised in feeding issues) ds didn't have motor issues. I'm really anxious about this, I can't really pin point why. Screen shot away! It's totally normal to have a lot of anxiety around feeding problems and feeding therapy. A lot of people, even health care professionals don't understand feeding issues, it's "new" - Robin Glass, who literally wrote the book on feeding - her textbook wasn't even published until 1998! And although this is very wrong, it's easy to blame ourselves as moms because we're the ones who are "responsible" for feeding our kids. You should never blame yourself, but it's so hard to get society's voice out of your head sometimes. I think this adds, at least subconsciously, to the anxiety.

csho yes to that. I get a lot of 'my kid doesn't eat vegetables either' 'all toddlers are picky eaters' 'he's just testing you' etc. from professionals too. He gags most meals, this is not toddlers being toddlers. Not saying that that isn't hard too, it's just different.

vino, he seems to be a bit better. Says his throats still hurts and later at night the past two nights his belly ends up hurting so I'm kind of waiting it out. He doesn't have a fever right now but same thing, past 2 nights it seems to come around between 4-6. We have a doctors appointment at 2 so I'm hoping she will be able to help. And it's HFM... she said the fever is the worst part but I may start to see the blister/pimples over the next 24hours. She showed me his throats and the tiny spots starting on his hands. 😔 She also said that once the fever is gone he's no longer contagious and should be perfectly fine to go back to daycare Wednesday.

I am beyond stressed right now. I need to call to get our clogged gutters cleaned, out garage door opener has gone haywire so I need someone for that, someone doored my car and it has a big dent and scrape I need to deal with. Plus work is nuts, Dh is overworked and stressed with his job so he's not a huge help with anything other than the kid and my mood sucks lately. So that's my check in for the day.
