Here is my janky seed starting set up. I am using mostly think I already owned plus a couple things I bought. I really need to get a larger shelving unit though The tray on top has the lavender seeds, so far none have germinated. Bottom row from L to R is sweet peas (which just came up today!!), genovese basil, purple coneflower, basil, coneflower, and a San marzano tomato. Seed starting is so exciting to me and also makes me feel like a giant dork. I “accidentally” bought 3 more rose bushes online from burpees. They had a super great sale one day and I couldn’t help myself. I have no plan/idea for where they will go, but I’ll figure it out after they get here.

Yay, new thread! I am impatiently waiting to see if the yews I hard pruned last August do anything. I’ve heard so many different, but all very definitive opinions on it. I don’t feel super strongly either way, I just want to know what will happen! I have a lot of front garden to deal with as well so I am *thinking* of doing morning glory seeds in the hanging baskets and the window boxes that I’ve 99% decided are going in the front windows. I figure I can have a big impact for relatively cheap and leave more room in my budget for actual plants then. I hope they come back well for you! I’m not sure what the weather is like where you live but I recently learned about a technique called winter sowing. You make mini greenhouse out of milk jugs or other clear plastic containers. Cut it in half, add drainage holes in the bottom, fill with soil and seeds, water well and then place outside while it’s still cold outside. They germinate naturally and start growing as it warms up. I’m trying it myself, so I can let you know how it goes. Could work to help you grow some perennials.

My friend volunteers with our park district and they suggested it so we both are trying! 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

I really want a witch hazel. I’m hoping my Arboretum will have them at their annual plants sale. They have a ton and I’ve been obsessed with them then last couple years. They’re just so pretty and weird and I like that they bloom in the winter. Evidently it’s great for bees too!

Guise! One of my lavender finally sprouted! I planted them on 2/15, today is 3/6. I upgraded my shelf for my seed growing operation, but I’m not 100% happy with it yet. I want to get some strip lights instead of the clamp lights I think. I put aluminum foil around 3 sides to reflect more light back on the plants.

It’s finally a tiny bit warm here and I’m so excited for spring. My chives and daffodils are starting to peek through. I bought two new varieties of sunflowers today even though I probably have enough seeds from last year. I couldn’t resist.
I got a new birdhouse for Christmas and need to get it up soon. Maybe I’ll scout out locations during naptime.
