I’m here! And it’s a Monday morning!
Why? Well both my children conspired against me sleep last night and I think I got no stretch linger than an hour. Maybe.
G had a fever last night and crawled into bed with me. Then got angry later on when he was told it wasn’t time to wake up. Which woke A up as soon as he quieted down.
H is home but just got off work at 6am so he needs to sleep too. Thinking I’ll get a nap this afternoon.

I have a rant! L has gone through 3 sets of clothes so far today. So many blowouts. I’m thinking it’s the antibiotic he’s on for his ear infection. Thankfully his last dose was yesterday so hopefully by tomorrow it’s out of his system. His first outfit lasted 20 minutes, just as I was putting him in the car seat to leave for daycare. The second two happened at daycare, and now he is wearing some of daycare’s random extra clothing that hardly fits.
Also he refused to nurse at one point on Saturday, then again last night and ended up taking a bottle from my husband. He’s never straight up refused. And then to take a bottle when he acts like bottles are the worst thing ever every other day?! I was so sad. I felt ridiculous sitting on my living room floor pumping and crying. Can I still blame PP hormones?

whatsit ugh sorry for the crappy sleep! Hopefully you can squeeze a nap in today. Why don’t children know and take advantage of how wonderful sleep is?

And G has always slept really well but the last month or so he’s been waking up in the middle of the night/ really early and crawling into bed with us. Now that I think of it, that’s coincided with taking the safety knob off his room. Hmmm. And of course since he was such a good sleeper, A still wakes 2-3 times a night. Murphy’s law right?

DD has been sick since Tuesday. I brought her to the dr on Thursday and the dr we saw said other than the cough that I was bringing her in for, and a little bit of gunk in the eyes she looked ok. Told me to give her honey and use a humidifier to help the cough. It's been a rough weekend...every day she's woken up 2 or 3 times running into my room telling me she's going to be sick. Last night she had a fever, lots of gunk in both eyes, woke up every 3 hours. I took her back to the dr today and we saw our normal dr...she has a sinus infection and she went ahead and gave us prescription eye drops. She said she doesn't have pink eye, but the school would probably send her home with the way her eyes look. I just hope it clears up before this weekend...we have a bunch of things to do and next weekend we're going out of town.

auri I love pink eye drops. My kid got sent home from daycare numerous times for not really pink eye because when he gets a sniffle, his eyes get gunky. The drops clear it in a day every time. I know it’s not ideal to use them when it’s not pink eye but damn sometimes you just need to go to work and use that sick time when your kid is really actually sick. Or you know, when you’re sick yourself!

Lord. My new daycare is kind of breezy. That will probably have it’s cons but this is a breath of fresh air:
Last daycare (which overall I loved don’t get me wrong): “he’s not himself so we took his temp and hey it’s right on the exact temp it needs to be for us to send him home, how about that” and also “we rang you because he seems tired, maybe he should go home”
New daycare: “he’s not himself, maybe he’s teething or just being a typical baby haha!”

It’s the best. I don’t think I could ever go to a center now. The TLDR on a past text is “DD1 threw up but I think it was just bc she ran around after slamming a cup of milk. Is it ok if I throw her clothes in the wash and give her a bath.” YES OBVIOUSLY YOU ANGEL DCP.

whatsit I hope you get better sleep soon. Both kids are sick so I think I am getting 1 hour stretches as well clementine We have had poop explosions the last few days here too. I think L's are due to being sick with mucous in his poop making it more running. On Sunday it was so bad I had to abort cleaning him up and just stuck him in the bath (but washed all the poop off first). K had a fever last night bit it was gone this morning so hopefully I don't get a call from DC to come pick him up. I think I am finally getting over my cold so at least I have that.

So L is having a procedure done tomorrow to check for a laryngeal cleft. He had another swallow study last week and is still aspirating liquids, so we’re back to the slow flow bottle and doing this procedure to see what the cause of the swallowing difficulties is. If it is a cleft, they’ll do an injection in that area to create a barrier between his esophagus and trachea and hopefully prevent further issues. If it’s not a cleft... then who knows. They did say they’d recommend an MRI next, but I really hope we don’t have to do that. A cleft is obviously not ideal, but at least it would give us a solid reason for the swallowing issues and it seems to be a pretty straightforward fix. The fact that it could be neurological scares me so much. We go in first thing tomorrow morning and then will have to spend the rest of the day and night in the hospital so they can monitor his eating/drinking and breathing after the scope. I am super anxious and scared and worried. They made it seem like it was not too invasive of a procedure, but he will have to be under general anesthesia. Have any of you ever had a little one under anesthesia? Spent the night in the hospital with an infant? Any tips?

Thanks stardust84! Luckily H let me nap for a bit yesterday so that was nice. And since A refused to nurse once I woke up, we had a pumped bottle so he did one of the feedings last night. I actually slept more than a 3 hr stretch. Whaaat?!

clementine I have not had a LO put under general anesthesia so I cannot comment on that. Hope someone else can. I do have a lot of experience being in the hospital though. DS1 had rsv and was diagnosed as failure to thrive die to jaundice and reflux in his second week of life. L will be given a nice comfy hospital bed. Based on your hospital you might not. We were at a very well funded children's hospital but parent beds are not considered a priority (understandably). Make sure to take a pillow for yourself, snacks and stuff to entertain you, comfy clothes for you, toys for L in case he has to stay in his room and can't go to a communal play area. Be prepared not to have wifi. You might not be able to leave L alone (we weren't) so have your DH bring you dinner. It shouldn't be too bad because it is only one night. This was a Canadian hospital so it may be different in the US.

thinking of you today clementine hope you get some answers! also i totally understand the nursing emotions - we had the same issues when we were dealing with an ear infection and i was a mess. i hope he’s feeling better soon there is so much illness going around! dd1 had a pretty high fever over the weekend but thankfully it only lasted a day. dd2 was up 4x last night because she was so stuffed up. i hope everyone gets well soon. i’m hanging out at my moms all day today - i saw probably 30+ cars in the ditch or involved in accidents this morning due to freezing rain so i’m not going anywhere else. getting my christmas gifts wrapped though.

Thinking of L, and you clementine! Both my kids have colds again too. E was coughing so hard the other night that SO convinced me to take her in. The doctor was old school and immediately shrugged it off as viral. 3 hours later she had a 102° fever that took forever to go down with Tylenol. She seems like she's on the mend now though.

Thanks for all the good thoughts! The procedure went well and doc said he did have a cleft, so she did the injection. Fx that solves the issue. She said it works in about 50% of kids so we’ll see. L is fussy and already tired of being hooked up to all the monitors, so we’re not having the most fun ever, but we’re managing. He sees to be nursing and eating well, so I’m hoping they can take the IV out. Poor guy can hardly nap without something beeping and waking him up. He did enjoy the therapy dog visit and thinks the bars on his little crib jail are fun, so there are some positives!

clementine my oldest had GA at 2y9m and my dd3 had it at 2y5m. It’s unnerving because the look like they’re (trigger warning)..... no longer among the living. Beware that they’re realctoo. To waking can vary. My oldest was cuddly and fine, my younger was PISSED. So angry it was kind of scary and we made a huge scene bc she wouldn’t settle. However, it was fine and they’re both better because of it.

They took him from us wide awake and we didn’t get to see him again until he was awake. He was pretty out of it once he woke up though. Extra fussy and wanted to be held but also didn’t want to be held. He was fine after a few minutes and after nursing. I’m glad everything turned out well with your kids! It’s not something you really want your kid to go through, but you gotta do what you gotta do sometimes. Like you said, they’re better because of it.

dizzycooks Thank you for this warning. L will need to have GA for eye surgery some time between 18-24 months. I know it is the best thing for him but it still worries me. I was put under at 6 mo for eye surgery in the 80s so I know it should be okay but it is different when it is yours I think.

I think DD2 is getting some more teeth. She woke up SCREAMING MOTN and absolutely wouldn’t settle. Both girls aren’t sleeping well so I feel like sleep is the only thing I can think of talk about lately. I’m 100% aware of how miserable I am so I just wish people would leave me alone. ITS FOR THEIR OWN GOOD! clementine I’m so glad they identified the issue and really hope the injection works!!
