My cousin recommended this changing pad to me. www.amazon.com/dp/B00KSW970Y/ref=twister_B009CLFF6C?_encoding=UTF8&th=1I loved the thought of something I could just wipe down when we got something on it. Back when I was pregnant last time it ran around $99 I'm pretty sure, and I didn't want to spend that on a changing pad so I looked around and Target had a knock off one for $39 or so. I got that one and we've been using it ever since. Our SIL asked me to get her one for their second child because she loved ours so much. I'm really sad that Target quit carrying it - it was an online only item at the time I got mine. We have this one. I didn't register for it but was gifted it by a colleague. It is great. Unless your house runs cold. Then the thing is too cold to put baby on and you need to cover it anyway (which defeats the purpose IMO). Haha, good point, I never thought of that. DS never complained about it being cold, so we've used it daily for almost two years.

- treat myself to some nice nursing bras and tanks and a real pumping bra. YES to the hands free pumping bra. That is essential. I especially liked using it with the Medela Swing pump because then I could walk around and do stuff and not be confined to one location.

I'll need to catch up on this yet but skim reading the 1st pg. it's looking like I will need more than what I thought but later like starting solids stuff which I gave away to my cousin.

We thought we were done after two, so aside from a crib (which we won't set up for like a year) and a stroller, we're pretty much starting over. However, we're going very minimalist for this baby.
- Britax car seat since we have B-Ready stroller - co-sleeper & sheets (yardsale site) - baby tub (borrowing) - 2 rock n plays (1 for each floor, hand-me-downs) - baby clothes in 0-3 and 3-6 - fleece one-piece for cold New England winter (no puff, so good for car seat) - swaddles - muslin blankets - cloth dipes - pacifiers - bottles - electric & hand pumps - nursing bras: highly recommend "Dairy Fairy" Arden bra, which is for nursing and hands-free pumping - nursing tanks - Milkies milk-saver since I'm a big leaker - nursing pads and milk storage bags
Think that's about it - I've been trying to order one thing each time I place an Amazon order for something else, so that's helping with sticker shock of replacing all the baby stuff.

Oh ya - also on our shopping list is a King-size bed. It's going to be FIL's "gift" to us for some creative work I'm doing for him this summer.
We bedshare, and it's crowded with a baby in the queen. Plus, the bigs like morning cuddles, so having a bed the five of us can fit in will be nice.

-Crib and mattress -Carseat -Double stroller -A new diaper bag- I kind of hate the one we have for DD -Winter 0-3 clothes -A second sound machine as DD still uses hers every night -New lovies -Bibs -Burp cloths -Bottle Nipples -Pacifiers -Teethers -Washcloths
I am also looking into newborn cloth diapers. We didn't start cloth with DD until she was around 4 or 5 months and only have one size diapers. Might skip then again for laundry sake haha

If you are having a boy, and plan on circumcising, I highly recommend getting Vaseline in a tube. So much easier/less messy than scooping it from a container. I plan on buying some Zutano brand booties-my other 2 kids had very long, narrow feet that socks would not stay on. Hoping these work. I also plan on buying new nail clippers, some gripe water, infant meds, sleepers-zip ups and gowns, new crib sheets, nursing pads+regular pads for me, and I think that's it. Plus diapers and wipes of course. Love zutanos! Would highly, highly recommend. How does Zutanos booties sizing run?

Bumping this thread up because I've decided I may 'need' a backpack style diaper bad, any recommendations? I've heard the name JuJuBe thrown around... I see cythe Taitai mentioned diaper bags (sorry I've I forgot anyone)

August Blooms It's technically not a diaper bag, but I've been using a Thirty One Sling-Back Bag as one for the past 2 years. I like smaller bags though, so it might not work for everyone.

I see cythe Taitai mentioned diaper bags (sorry I've I forgot anyone) We had a Fisher price backpack one for DD's first year. The pouch where you keep the changing pad started falling apart, so we replaced with one I found in Amazon and we're having the same problem, so I wouldn't recommend it. I have friends who love the JuJuBe bags. I think we registered for a Columbia one in hopes it's a little sturdier than the ones we have had.

Looks chic and stylish too! Oh, and it clips on to stroller handles. I figure I will def need a backpack configuration with 2 kids. www.amazon.com/Skip-Hop-Chelsea-Downtown-Backpack/dp/B018996Z1Q

August Blooms, I just got a Ju-Ju-Be BRB in the Admiral print. I really like it so far! Was a tight pack but big enough for a day trip (snacks, water bottles, contents of my purse, along with regular diaper bag needs) but has lots of room when I don't have all that extra stuff in it.

Sound soothers are the best. We got this one for DS and still use it every night. +1 to this, we have the same one for DD and at 2 we're still using it. I especially love it to drown out or at least muffle any outside noise, so there's less chance of something startling her awake. We didn't use the projections much in the first year, but "see stars?" has become a regular part of our bedtime routine. I'm now wondering if we need to buy a 2nd, since baby will be in our room room for at least 6 months...

Also, don't mind me as I catch my way up through this thread. I was a super anxious FTM and so worried about getting all the "right" gear that I drove myself crazy...if I can save one other mom from crying over whether to get a $12 formula pitcher then I'll be happy!

Any bottle preferences? Used Dr Brown last time but wanted something with less parts this go 'round. We used the Avent natural and had no issues with it. Only 3 parts... well 4 of you count the cap. My sister also got me a new one to try that looks good. I think it's the Nuk simply natural +1 to Avent Natural, 3 big parts, super easy to clean!

Might skip then again for laundry sake haha Same -- we were gifted 8 weeks of a diaper service with DD (which we started using when she was about a week old), so we were able to go right into using our one-size stash once that was done. I've been looking at secondhand NB diapers, so far I have 8 AIOs and 8 prefolds (and covers from DD, we had to provide our own). Debating whether to flesh out the stash or just do 50/50 cloth and disposable until the NB stuff is outgrown. I'll be doing laundry for DD anyway so that part is NBD.

Generally if I had to do it again and we were footing the bill, I'd get as much secondhand gear as I could. Some of this stuff barely gets used (see: our baby swing, which everyone swore would save my life and DD used for maybe an hour total), and you can find some awesome deals cause people just want this crap out of their house.
We recently scored a City Mini double stroller for $50. We walk the dog 3x/day, so it's a necessity. A neighbour with a NB and toddler raved about hers, which her ILs bought at BRU for...$650. Yikes! MH was like "I once bought a CAR for $800", hahaha.

So, DS2 took a sharpie to my Petunia Picklebottom diaper bag ($80 at an outlet sale 3yrs ago). I tried all the internet tricks for getting Sharpie out, but no luck. DH thinks I don't need a new diaper bag because Sharpie does not make the bag not work. Boo - I think I need a new diaper bag Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Are expensive diaper bags really worth the money? I'm asking objectively, and 0 judgement for those who have them.
As I mentioned earlier I'm at a 12 about money right now, so I'm looking at a $35 backpack style from BRU. It has good reviews and no glaring quality issues. Should I not even bother and get a more expensive name brand? I just don't know what I should splurge on, you know.

For me, it was my purse and diaper bag for three years. I wanted something I loved to carry and could hold everything I needed to leave the house with. I don't spend money on expensive purses, so I thought I could splurge on the bag (like I said above $80 was my splurge). If DS2 hadn't ruined it, I could've easily gotten 5yrs out of it. The bag I got for DS1 was pricey-ish (Vera Bradley with my sister's employee discount) - but I didn't love the features, so that turned into my work pump bag, which I still got a lot of use out of. Now I'm looking at backpacks, which will be easier with babywearing, and I want one I can pack for a trip to Disney when the kids are older or use as a carry on for a plane ride. So, ya, I will spend a little more again. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Do the reviews give any indication of its durability? Do you plan to carry it for a long time, or think you'll switch to something different once baby is older? I still carry a purse with our diaper bag now, so unlike versed it's not my pocketbook. That'll probably change with 2.0 since I'll have that much more to carry, so I'll probably be tossing a wallet in there.

Related to this thread: I just got a boppy feeding pillow at BRU for $29.99. The deal they have is buy any bare naked pillow (no cover for 29.99) and get a classic cover for free. I dont think most of you need a feeding pillow but if by chance you do, I haven't seen any better deals than that one. codex320 (since she's a ftm too!)

I have a Skip Hop diaper bag (it was a shower gift but I want to say it was $40-50 range?) and it's held up just fine these 2 years. No plans to replace it for this baby. I throw my wallet/phone/keys in the front pocket when I need it to double as a purse.

Taitai , That looks really nice. I would get that for myself if I saw that! I am all for function and convenience these days and I think backpacks are the way to go. Again I inherited 2 diaper bags from my GF. They were messenger style and worked fine and also neutral that hubs could use it too. When DS stopped nursing ~ 18 months. I got backpacks. They were just normal backpacks and worked just as well. I use this - Sherpani Soleil for traveling and it's also actually my work bag. It's light weight and fits everything I need. I like how you have the options of messenger and backpack and also there is a back slot to slip over your carryon during traveling. It fits everything I need including a travel potty and isn't bulky. I use this around town - Sherpani Quest. Super lightweight and hubs can also use it too. Again - fits everything I need and washable! Unlike diaper bags normal bag packs don't have as many pockets but I typically pack stuff in draw string bags. I make them out of remnant cloth which I have lots of lol! There is a method to my madness though. I find it easier to contain groups of items like a Snack bag or activity bag, change of clothes bag, toy bag, small cooler! etc. rather than rummaging through the bag to take things out. Also makes traveling easier - for me at least So cythe , if you're curious, IMO, there really is no need to even get a typical diaper bag. If you have time, maybe you can go check them out and do your own comparison. Again to each it's own and how it will fit your lifestyle. I honestly feel a lot of diaper bags are too big and bulky. Personally I did not like boppys - I find them too floppy. My sister had one and didn't like it either, she said bubs would keep falling between the boppy and her. I have a Mombo which I got for myself - which is much sturdier and inherited a My Breast Friend from my GF which I love! I also then purchased the inflatable MBF for traveling and it is awesome during plane flights and collapses to nothing if you don't need it but can carry around with - so convenient for traveling.
