I just spent entirely way too much time trying to start the daily with a gif. Now it won’t let me delete it.

M has been vomiting since 4:30 so I’ll have to stay home with her. I feel terrible about it since I’m supposed to be at the theater at 9. Oh well. Maybe I’ll be able to make the evening performance.

We decided to do some family pictures yesterday. We all wore our Christmas sweaters so we can use them for Christmas cards. It was so funny guys. H is super duper serious when it comes to pictures and we really have to work for a smile. C onthe other hand will hold this huge smile so long that it starts to look a bit crazy and combine that with the fact he gets really distracted and looks around (so while his face is pointed at the camera and he has this massive smile, his eyes will be turned way to the side, its hilarious). ANYWAY so I'm looking through the pictures and H is doing his serious face and C is looking like a crazy person, then finally they are both looking and smiling beautifully... but DH is looking at them telling them to look and smile and I'm shouting at DH telling HIM to look at the camera not the boys. It's a mess. But theres like 100 photos so I should be able to find a few that work lol.
Aside from that, I kept C home from school today. He just has a cough/cold, nothing too crazy but he snuck into my bed last night and slept cuddled in to me all night so I know he's feeling like crap. Plus he has this rash for like 2 weeks now and I want to bring him to the doctor to get it looked at. It actually appeared to be an allergic reaction at first (was hives) but then turned into a full body rash which now looks to be turning into fullbody eczema. Poor kid is a complete mess.

Morning. The snow is beautiful this morning. It looks like a snow globe- big fluffy flakes falling slowly. This is the snow I like.
Just trying to get the kids ready so we can bring B to school. I was going to stop at target on my way back so I can pick up a little something for my friends daughters birthday this weekend. But it’s in the complete opposite direction and I’m lazy. Maybe I’ll go Friday.

I'm in a panic trying to figure out tile for our backsplash. The guy is supposed to come tomorrow to install it. The tile we picked is in stock at Home Depot so I was going to just order it last night and pick it up today. But yesterday I stopped and picked up a couple boxes just to make sure it's what we wanted.. we both hated it. Then we decided to look at some of the leftover tile that the builder left in the basement and we liked it plus it matches the fireplace tile. Buuut they don't sell it in stores. I can order it through HD but I'm calling some tile places right now to see if the prices will be any better. We definitely won't have it for tomorrow though so I'll have to cancel that. I'm bummed. I thought we could at least get that over with. I'm also now annoyed that we ended up with tile that the builder had anyway so we could have just had them do it.

Lol danib we are doing pics this Sunday. A friend is taking them so T&Ps appreciated (jk!) O was a terror last night. His tantrums are out of control lately. Right before bed he wouldn’t pick a book to read and was freaking out so I put him in bed, told him if he couldn’t pick a book he was going straight to bed and shut the door. Fast forward a few mins and he’s still screaming so I go in there and he had a pile of books by the door and was laying on top of them crying. Broke my heart! So I asked him if he was ready to read now; he said yes and then he was an angel. Something needs to change though. Last night I followed through but normally I think I give him too many chances. These tantrums are getting old.

Poor M and C, I hope they both feel better soon tgrimes danibwaitwhat I'm jealous of your snow, it sounds so beautiful and serene. Sorry things have to be delayed goldenlove but at least the tile you ended up hating wasn't installed. Hope you can find the amount you need so you can reschedule and get it finished before too long. cookswithwine sorry O has been challenging lately. Tantrums are so frustrating to deal with on a daily basis. It really wears one down.

I woke up early this morning sneezing. I don't know if it's just regular allergies, the Santa Ana winds always kick up a lot of allergy inducing things, or if the air quality is worse due to the fires. Either way I'm a big ball of histamine and I don't much like it.

I met with my boss this morning to ask her when I would be able to start to work 5 days, and explained a lot of the reasons why. She is going to talk to the partners and see what they can do but says that she wants to make it happen.
I had some conflicting advice (from family) about how to approach this - some people told me to interview and get an offer letter with my last job, and put it on the table as a competing offer than my company needed to respond to. But in the end, I told her straight up that I turned down the offer to go back, that I wasn't interested in leaving this job, and that I wasn't looking, but that for a number of reasons (including financial) I'd like to look to come on 5 days in the new year. She was openly appreciative that I took that tact instead of trying to game her. So anyways, we'll see where this ends up but I feel good.

If you try to do that at my current job, they'd just be like "bye" and might even walk you out right away. They never counter.

So when he found that out, he got another offer and slapped it down and got a *massive* raise, like 30%. So he in particular takes a really hard line approach. I'm not shocked by your company. It seems a bit OTT to like escort you out the door right away, but unless it was somebody I felt was absolutely essential, I'm not sure I would give them a raise knowing they have one eye on the exit.

the one time I got a raise to stay was when I was going thru some sexual harassment complaints and I didn't like the response so I made an offhand remark to my boss that I felt a need to leave the organization. She had a visible reaction. The next day I got like a 9% raise. It was presented to me as a reward for my good work and the funds I was brining in, but it was very obvious.

H got a massive raise that way too. He started as an intern and graduated from college in the middle of the recession. He was lucky to get hired in so he just took the low ball offer they gave him. He waited it out until things got better but his salary never caught up. He finally went out and interviewed, came back with an offer and they did NOT want him leaving. Now he's been promoted a few times so they obvious like him there. He's in a field that is very hard to find qualified people though so it would be hard to replace him. At my work, if they find out that you're leaving to go to another one of the Big 3 (which most people do), then they walk you out so you don't steal information or something. I mean there's nothing here worth stealing but ok.

I firmly believe some companies think their shit is more important than it is. I was talking to some of my cws who have a corporate background, and they were telling me that product launches all have code names. Like the fucking Toys R Us catalog (RIP), they couldn't type "catalog" in an email - only the code name, and they had to be careful who they give details to because some people didn't have clearance to know the full picture. All for a toy catalog.

I'm usually one of the first people to know that information because my part has vehicle images and splash screens in it. I thought that was cool early on. Now it's boring to me lol

So we saw the doctor. C's rash that started like 2 weeks ago has nothing to do with his current sickness, and in fact it's not a rash at all. He had Chicken Pox!!!! It was just a coincidence that they came out and as he was getting better from that he developed this current thing (another viral thing, no big deal). Luckily I had taken pictures just in case I needed them and so was able to show her and she said she's confident it was chicken pox. He's one of the unlucky people who didn't get full immunity from the vaccine, but I guess had enough immunity that it was only a mild case. Like I never even considered chicken pox as a possibility. No one even gets that anymore. At least he didn't have it bad, and this current thing should pass within a few days.

I hope M and C are feeling better tgrimes and danib. starbuck, i think you handled that perfectly. I also think men can get away with your dad's approach more than women. I did have one job pay me more to stay. I didn't bring another offer to them with that in mind, I really planned on leaving. The regional VP came down and talked me into staying. Good thing too because the Saturday before what would have been my first day at the new job O broke my ankle. People at my work are dropping like flies. We know we won't have a job by Feb. 2020 (probably end of next summer though) but they're still stringing us along like "we haven't found a new building yet. It could still be local!" No. If you were planning on keeping us local you would have said that from the beginning.

Hello!
Back from day 2 of hell. At least I got home a little earlier tonight. But my coworker was running late this morning so it gave me time to catch up with just my manager (who, again, sits in Hartford... I am in an office 1+ hours away). Nice guy, only here about a year. Supposed proponent of “just do your job, I don’t care how or where or when it gets done”. So last time we had the remote working conversation he said he wouldn’t talk to me about it again (leaving his trust in my hands to just get shit done).
Guess what came up today.
Why, you ask?
Because creepy coworker and his minion (aka my other coworker/account manager who complains about me typing too much) don’t like that I work remotely. ONE DAY A WEEK guys. And I don’t even work for/with you, so why do you care? For all you know I am on PTO those days or FMLA, etc.
They’re older (56/55) and they just don’t get it.
Mind you HR got involved in 2016 when I first requested remote access (before these turfs were even around) and it was approved as a reasonable accommodation to infertility as an ADA disability (arguable, but my company is very risk averse when it comes to causing a stir). To that point, I have two other ADAs that would qualify me for this same accommodation so eat shit coworker and CC.
So besides the fact that I manage my own workload, manage the workload of another two producers in another two different states (hello that’s remote working as well idiots), and I’m the point person on a major project.... like, what more would suit you as proof that I am very clearly capable and in fact doing my job regardless of my location, and why TF do you care?
I’m torn between my approach - confronting them directly, filing a complaint with HR, adding my additional ADAs to file so that someone tells them to leave me alone, filing an anonymous complaint with our ethics board about any of the number of inappropriate conversations they have insulting gay people, Democrats, other employees, personal details, etc.

Ugh kleigh I'm sorry you have to deal with all that bullshit. Where did you and your boss land? Did he say you have to come in 5 days now? I'm not sure which way would be best. My instinct is to use ADA to your advantage, because it's the least confrontational - leaving you above the fray. I would 100% also file an anonymous complaint about the environment otherwise.

goldenlove and starbuck It’s just obnoxious really. Most nights I log in and put in 2-3 hours after the kids are in bed. Not because I have to, but because I want to. I LIKE my career. I go well above and beyond. My boss was bringing it to my attention, just to let me know it’s still coming up. We’re rewriting the policy and procedure manual and he is going to write policy on it (permitting it). The coworker of mine in Hartford, also is allowed to work remote one day (she has a 2 year old)... she and I are very similar “stay up until 2am if I have to, just to make sure something that needs to be done, gets done.” CC exact words: how can you manage someone that’s not in the office. Huh?
