I always choose to send my kids. I live for me time. I usually do but I don't want to spend the day obsessing over the news and trying to read the tea leaves. Go donate platelets. It takes about two hours and you can't use either of your hands - no obsessively refreshing the news.

Maybe catch a movie at Alamo Drafthouse while drinking beer? I have a tendency to shop while I’m stressed, so I would do movie/lunch/shopping at La Cantera maybe.

We (the US) have reinstated the sanctions on Iran and added more.
So we'll see how that works out for us.

SCOTUS won't take up net neutrality:
Chief Justice Roberts recused for financial reasons, Kavanaugh recused because he was involved in a lower court decision, so they didn't have a majority to hear the case.

Omg. Doing research for who to vote for in the local school board race. So many gross thoughts about evolution and transgender bathroom use. Literally every candidate said that you should use the bathroom for the sex on your birth certificate. Fucking yikes. Sometimes I really really really hate small towns.

I reiterate my UO that birth certificates don't need to specify gender or sex and we should eliminate collection of that info from birth certs.

I’m in PK3 today. I got all 16 down for a nap and now I have time to read everything. It’s probably good I’m working today because otherwise I’d be obsessive on my couch all day.

Somehow I happen to be showing a film today (completely by accident) that has footage of reactions of when obama won in 2008. I'm crying. Oof. So much for trying to keep it together this week.

It would be great if I could go into labor today or tomorrow to distract me from Election Day stress. C was born on election day last year. It's a good distraction. Though once I was coherent enough I immediately checked the results on the constitutional convention vote since I missed it. So it's not a perfect solution, lol.

I can get 16 students to take a nap and stay on their mats but I can’t get my 3 year old to stay in his own bed overnight. Apparently my magic only works in a school building.

I hope they don't do anything to put our service members in danger. This should be denounced by a commander in chief. But that assumes the commander in chief gives a flying shit about the members of the military. He won't, because if a tragedy happens he will spin it his way and his base will eat it up.

I think I mentioned in last weeks thread that the Idaho Coalition against Domestic and Sexual Abuse is sending copies of a book to Middleton schools to enhance the cultural sensitivity training. Here is todays post about it:
Our organization is committed to engaging in hard conversations on systemic racism and the ongoing harm and violence against marginalized communities. As part of our ongoing learning, we are reading “So You Want to Talk About Race” by Ijeoma Oluo. We also are committed to supporting marginalized communities and have ordered 30 copies of “So You Want to Talk About Race” for Middleton Elementary School teachers and administration. We hope that the book will enhance the Middleton Elementary School’s upcoming cultural sensitivity training in response to the justifiable national outrage at the racist costumes worn by teachers. What we know for sure is that Middleton Elementary is not alone; the disturbing photographs only made visible the systemic racism and culture of dehumanization based on racial identities and immigration status that exists in all our schools and institutions. Systemic racism (prejudice + power) is prevalent in all our schools and institutions. It is essential to our collective humanity that white people build the muscles to have critical conversations with each other about interrupting racism. We hope you are inspired to buy this book for a school administrator, teacher, or anyone who is an influencer in your community, or even for yourself. If your funds are limited, contribute what you can on our website at idvsa.org/donate/one-time-donation/ and we will send the book to Idaho school personnel. #WeChooseAllofUs

I see tomorrow as the first major step towards fixing this mess. I am definitely feeling more anxious than I was, but I expected that as it got closer. I am encouraged that young people have shown up so far, and I think that's so important no matter the outcome. If we can continue to get young people educated on the issues, and get them to show up to vote, we can right this wrong. It will just take time.

DOJ sending monitors to immigrant-heavy county in Steve King's district:
Smells like voter intimidation to me.
