I’m seeing reports she was not a Holocaust survivor. She was.

I’m from Pittsburgh and spent my weekends in squirrel hill. My mom grew up there and our temple was there. My sister lives there now.
It’s odd bc news articles show pictures of people I know who were at the vigil. My fb friends knew some of the victims.
This was too close for home for me. I’m going to copy something I saw in fb. Brb

My older DD goes to a Jewish preschool. Today we got an email from the rabbi and the director of the preschool about the safety improvements they’re doing to the building and playground. They got grants for these things. I’m so grateful they’re doing this, terrified to send my kid back to school, and so mad that instead of youth programs/feeding families/etc/etc all this money has to go to safety because guns and hate.

robot, with my middle daughter we decided against one day care in a church bc there was no security - the front door was wide open.

I've stopped watching football and I'm also struggling with the fact that a lot of people in Pittsburgh are all "how could that happen here" when Pittsburgh is pretty much a racist community (I mean most of the suburbs, don't @ me. I saw all of the signs this weekend and I grew up there and of course I don't mean EVERYONE) but I was glad to see this Steeler wearing this sweatshirt after the game Sunday.

I haven't commented yet, because I just don't know what to say. Just so sad and angry. I need stronger words. Sending love to everyone.

Yeah, the Pittsburgh suburbs are red red red and there's a lot of racism. (I can only speak specifically to the south suburbs as that's where I'm from, but I similarly see it every time I'm there.) It's pretty maddening. The most frustrating thing is, the city is rallying now, but I don't think anything will change in the long term.

It's easy to say "mass shooting, that's bad I am against that." Harder to look at your words and actions to see how you build that climate little by little, day by day.

I am saddened but not shocked. I wish this wasn't a reality in our country but it is unless the American people start to give a damn.
After a shooting I often see posts with the sentiment of people needing God and prayer. I cringe because those prayers are hollow without action. Don't pray for the violence to end and then go vote for candidates who promote or condone hate and who are pawns of the NRA. Don't go vote for the most anti Jesus candidate out there while touting your Christianity. Prayer is fine. But like I said in another thread last week, praying hands need walking feet.

Blaming Evangelicals is so wrong to me. Xenophobia, extremism, ignorance, hate, fear...but blaming a broad religious group, esp. in this thread just feels very uncomfortable to me.
I’m sorry for saying this publicly or any discomfort caused—I don’t want it to come across as antagonistic, and I thought a pm might intensify my response. I’m not quoting or tagging in case the OP wants to remove that part of the comment.

I removed it and I don't think Evangelicals are solely responsible for this particular incident but I don't think we should dismiss the power that Evangelicals have had in getting very hateful people elected. 80% of Evangelicals voted for Donald Trump. They have a role in the mess that had ensued from his rise to power and election.

The Islamic Center of Pittsburgh has offered to be outside of services to help protect. And they raised over $120,000 for the victims families.
The updated amount is in the comments.

So Trump is planning on coming to Pittsburgh today despite being asked not to so the city can focus its resources on the funerals today instead of dealing with Trump and his Entourage. But he can't come any other day because he has too many campaign rallies scheduled. WTF.

This made me tear up. Ryan Shazier is a Pittsburgh Steeler that had a major spinal cord injury the season before last (or maybe last season?). He has had to relearn how to walk. Today he walked into the Rodef Shalom Temple to pay his respects to the Rosenthal brothers.

I don't actively follow the Steelers anymore for a number of reasons but I do appreciate seeing individual steelers' actions after this horrible event.

Him going when he has been asked to not is just...not sure what the right word is. Not surprising since he's a narcissist, but still something.
I'm putting it out there now. If something should happen to the Enchanted family that would draw national/his attention to my/our funeral/s, no one connected to his family or administration is allowed to come.
ETA: And I know my extended family would raise holy hell and know I would be okay with that. None of us are particularly religious, though.

There is a protest walking down the street in Pittsburgh. They are peaceful, singing, and holding signs against hate. It's making me cry.

I read that over 100 members of the Steelers org went because the sister of the two brothers who were killed used to work for the Steelers. That's very sweet.
