Also, I don’t think I could use a communal crockpot. I couldn’t even use the microwave on my first-year university residence’s floor kitchen. And I was sleeping with a lot of the people I shared that microwave with.

What about muffin-tin quiches. They are pre-portioned, lighter and good at room temp.

If it's going in a hotel fridge I'd do some sandwiches, chips, soda, water fruit. Or stick it all in a small cheap Styrofoam ice chest.
To mix it up I would make sandwiches on different breads like hoagie bun, pretzel bun, tortilla roll up, onion buns.
stick each one separately in a zip lock bag so they can grab one as needed. And they don't have to think of how to seal up the rest.
Maybe add Some peanut butter and jelly if no allergies. Add little packets of condiments and separate little baggies of lettuce and tomato, onion, maybe a little container of avocado in a sealed pouch. Little bags of unusual snacks. Homemade cookies or brownies. Little Tupperware of fruit like cut up watermelon or grapes.
If it was a family I knew well I would also offer a chance to get away from hotel or hospital or whatever and invite them to my house for something like a crock pot pulled pork or pot roast and opportunity to sit somewhere outside and chill if wanted.

I usually go with salad, bread and either soup, chili or spaghetti. With younger kids I often include rolls and cut fruit and I deliver it all in a microwaveable container. So far no complaints about not being able to heat it.
