Has anyone seen the new trailer? There may be a spoiler in here but it’s from the trailer so proceed with caution.

What do you think of it? How do you feel about the Nagini thing? I don't like it. It's dumb. Unless that's not supposed to be Voldemort's Nagini. Of course I'm still mad Dumbledore isn't a redhead.

It is supposed to be Voldemort’s Nagini I believe. That is just from me following JKs twitter conversations today.

Anyways, maybe I'm just grumpy, bit the entire premise if this movie has bugged me since the beginning. It's definitely just a money grab. And despite all that, I'm still going to watch it

The ONLY thing I can think of is maybe it was a companionship/love thing and there will be some sort of pissed off bellatrix story in there somewhere before the Harry potty series should take place. I am completely reaching on that though.

I would love it if they somehow did marauders era movies. Or how Hogwarts first started with the founders. That would be awesome.
I’m kind of looking forward to watching the movie it’s near my birthday. I’m kind of intrigued with the whole Nagini thing.

Completely removed from any Voldemort or Dumbledore drama, and such a rich world to explore. Just how did the 4 get together in the first place? What really caused Slytherin to leave? All that. I'd also love next gen stuff, but only if they burn cursed child in a fire.

He's incapable of love or any sort of attachment at that level He doesn’t have to be attached for women to be attached to him. Unrequited love is painful. Makes people do dumb things. I also don’t think we know enough about her to make more solid assumptions. Maybe she gets stuck in snake form when he decided to make her a horcrux. Maybe she is very very powerful so he feels threatened by her and figures a way to forever bind them together with the horcrux curse. ETA: too many possibilities for anything really.

The issue for me is that based on timeline Nagini is made a Horcrux after his resurrection, where his already tenuous hold on sanity is even smaller and his paranoia has grown. He also sees his followers as expendable and liable to betray him. So why would he use a vessel with the freedom to think on its own to tie his soul too. If it dies, then his soul too dies, but if the vessel has human level intelligence and betrays him, he would need to make an example but he risks damaging his immortality. I just don't like it.

That’s true. I don’t particularly like it either. I think I have to see the movie to decide if they did something clever to make it work for the future.

I'm going to see it because I'm a slave to the HP universe but I'm feeling annoyed. It feels like we're altering the original story to fit this story arc. Newt is not mentioned as being some integral part to the downfall of Grindlewald and now he is?
I don't have my thoughts together on Nagini. But I feel annoyed. Hopefully the full movie changes my mind but I'm concerned it's going to turn out like The Hobbit series, just money grabbing.

I'm underwhelmed and annoyed. Wtf does grindelwald have to do with fantastic beasts? And why is Newt the ONLY qualified wizard in both britain and America for the job?
About nagini, the only way I can see it working is if she got stuck in her snake form, she'd be an animagus right? And then couldn't get out, and lost her human mind to the snake. She'd be some kind of a powerful "artifact," and would be able to live longer than any other snake, and he'd turn her into a horcrux later. He used the Riddle caretaker's death to make that one I think. But it's stupid because it's a really gymnastic reach that I don't like.

According to JK she is a Maledictus (sp?) It’s a genetic blood curse carried from mother to daughter. Only women can carry it. I have no idea what that means for the longevity of Nagini’s life and whether or not it affects whether or not she remains a snake.

I feel like I’m one of those Harry Potter fans that has really low expectations because I haven’t really thought this whole thing through. I can’t wait to see it. I think it’s more withdrawals from Harry Potter books and movies. I like having something to look forward to even if it desecrates the cannon.
I’m like the Dudley Vernon of all Harry Potter fans.

I’m excited to see it but I still really loathe Johnny Depp as Grindelwald. Loathe.
I still don’t get the whole Newt involvement but I’d watch a HP movie of Harry tying his shoes...so 🤷🏼♀️

I’ve also been reading some of the problematic things with Nagini. So maybe that’s part of the aprehension too. Which I get. But I am looking forward to watching it and geeking out.

I had no idea jkr had any statements on it. Then it makes more sense why she'd be a horcrux in the future, blood curse and all miawallace what are the problematic things you're reading?

pianolove I haven’t read much so I’m not fully versed here. But I read something about nagini being a poc and a woman and how Voldemort eventually made her a Slave to him via horcrux. I guess Nagini also comes from Asian culture folklore. Which again, JK has appropriated. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/NāgaThere was a discussion on Potter moms on Facebook about this.

It almost ruins it for me; I think I literally said something out loud when I saw him in the trailer. He doesn't have to be used for every - I don't know the word I am looking for- unusual(?) character. Give it a rest. I will be here to watch them all forever and ever.

I'm still bothered by the lack of further exploration/explanation of Dumbledore and Grindelwald's relationship as well as Depp being continually cast.

I also think I'm in the minority who love Jude Law as Dumbledore. From what we've seen, I think he's a good choice. He seems like the OG Dumbledore from SS and CoS, who I preferred. And pianolove, I'm with you on the "wtf does this have to do with Fantastic Beasts?" Seems like they made a title for the first film before finishing the whole story.
