Good morning!! I think we are finally in a good sleep situation. DS again slept from 7:30-2:30 and up at 6:30. Third day in a row so I’m not counting my chickens before they hatch but I’m pretty happy with this. Yesterday his gums looked like they were about to burst so hopefully the worst part of those teeth is behind us & they cut through soon!
I have teacher training for school all day today so as soon as I’m done nursing I have to shower & get everything ready for the day. I bought a car adaptor so I could pump today but I’m not sure I’m going to, I’m only missing 2 feedings bc he eats every 4 hours...idk I guess I’ll see how I feel.

dragonflyinn I hope DS sticks with that schedule for you and that the teething madness is over for a while. I finally broke down and bought some new work clothes over the weekend. I'l still trying to figure out this new shape and I won't lie that it really sucked to buy bigger clothes when I'm at my pre-baby weight. I'm so much more comfortable though, so I'm doing my best to get over myself.

Happy Monday everyone! Boooo the weekends always go so fast. Glad you got some good sleep dragonflyinn! To go back to the BLW and feeding conversation we had in the weekend thread....how do you start with BLW? We have tried purees several times and oat cereal, and he doesn't seem very interested. But, he seems SO interested in food when I'm eating by him- always trying to grab things out of my hands. I think maybe BLW would be best for us but I don't know what foods are OK to start with? What kinds of food do you have them try if you are doing BLW? He's 5.5 months and has 2 teeth for reference.

DH talked me into watching Lost with him and I'm actually enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would. We started season 2 last night.
Faith slept from 9:00-4:00 before waking up. At first her paci was all she needed but then I ended up feeding her a 5 oz bottle because she started screaming when I put her back down. I know waking up is more normal than STTN, but when is it okay to start weening her from eating at night? I can't tell if she wants a bottle because she is actually hungry or if that is what she is used to.

pinkcat, we've done banana, avocado and sweet potato. For the banana and avocado, I just cut pieces about the size of a french fry, then coated it in baby oatmeal so it wasn't so slippery. Long, thin (but not too thin so they don't break too easily) pieces work great for their grasp right now. You'll be amazed what they can eat without teeth! For the sweet potato, I basically did sweet potato fries in the oven. Just make sure you don't salt anything you are giving them, their kidneys are not ready for it.

Oh we also did steamed carrot sticks. That and steamed apple sticks are good too. Pretty much as long as you can smush it pretty easily between your fingers, they should be fine.
It is also nice b/c you can just throw a couple pieces on their tray and then eat your own meal. lol

dragonflyinn, we've been in teething hell here too. She had a better night last night though so I'm also hoping we'll do better from here on out. I went on the Precious Little Sleep site to read about teething/sleep and she pointed out each tooth will result in about 3-5 bad nights. At 20 teeth, that is up to 100 bad nights due to teething. Grrrrrreat...

aprilz81 I generally waited until about 9-10 months to really push night weaning. But you could try the approach of just offering less and less over the course of a few weeks. Drop down to 4oz, then 3, etc. But I’m mostly in the camp that before they’re 1 you just follow their cues. Especially if you’re only feeding her once a night. I promise at some point in your life you will get a full nights sleep again!

I would wait closer to 8-9 months and you could start offering water instead of milk. I never tried that but I’ve heard of people having success with that with weaning that feed, but not till 8-9-10 months.

Sitting in the waiting room of my dentist. Getting my first cavity filled and my appt was 20 minutes ago, so lose-lose. I am also trying to decide between the silver and white filling, so I have to talk to the dentist about that.

Good morning! I dropped off my car to the mechanic this morning to have my brakes changed. Now I am home with the kiddos. They are playing and I am drinking coffee. The baby is playing with G’s toys and she is playing with his. 🤷🏻♀️They aren’t playing with anything hazardous so I am letting it go. I just think it’s funny.

I forget I have fillings because they blend in with my teeth (obviously I got the white). For some stupid reason my insurance only covered the cost of the silver but I paid the extra (nominal) cost to get the white.

Anyone have a crib soother (music device for baby) they like? We have one and I think V likes the music to fall asleep but I find it is too loud. I'd love to find something that's not too expensive so I can get two and keep one at daycare for naps there. Also need plug in (no batteries). No need for lights with it but it's fine if it has them.

He does however like biting/chewing Mum Mums so I’m focusing on that to get him used to the whole food thing hopefully.

Thank you easternshoregirl and helloerrbody for all the BLW advice! I have been so nervous to try anything besides purees/oatmeal because I was worried about choking but from the lists you guys gave I realize there are a lot more things I can try than I realized!

I’m on team “one wakeup is amazing” lol. aprilz81 I would keep taking her cues and if she’s slept more than 6 hours and wakes up, feed her. I go by that rule with DS & on a good non-teething night that ends up being our only waking. DD gradually pushed that feeding herself until eventually she was waking up with us.

We've stopped the dream feed around midnight so it kinda makes sense that she is waking up hungry between 3-4 most nights. She usually has her final bottle between 7-8 so that is still a really good stretch. I know 1 wake up a night is still pretty good (of course I would rather her STTN) but sometimes I'm not 100% on if she is hungry, especially when I'm more asleep than awake.

Yep we quit the dreamfeed too and now DS has been doing 7:30-2:30/3ish on a good night. Which is pretty great!! Last night he was still half asleep but fussing so I fed him anyway just bc I didn’t want him to wake up DD.

I had forgotten the coat slippery foods in oatmeal thing so thanks for the reminder. We did mostly blw with ds1 and it was great. I enjoy just putting stuff on the tray while I eat! It is messy AF though.

I don’t know why I am so apprehensive about BLW this time around. I am so excited for him to be eating but I keep worrying about him choking. He has been doing fine with the few foods we have given him too. I don’t know what my issue is. And I hate feeding purées because it’s time consuming but he loves it so much. I am going to keep up with doing both but I am still worried.

marygracerich I get nervous too with BLW, but purees weren’t working for this baby and tonight I gave her a mushy carrot stick and she was really into it. I think it helps to read up on it, for peace of mind. A recent study showed that babies were *not* more likely to choke with BLW than with purees. In fact there was slightly more choking with purees. Let me go find the article. As long as the food is easily mushable in their mouths, it should be safe. But again, I agree. Feeding babies is scary.

Hiiiiiiiii! I missed some convo. I loved BLW with DD1 and I'm excited to start DD2.
Some of Es early foods were banana (it breaks into 3 natural pieces), peaches, broccoli, pancake, pasta, carrots, mashed potatoes, chicken, it's summer so zucchini or squash would be good too!!
I am also an A+ parent because I just found pics of DD1 at 6 mo old eating cake scraps for breakfast 💁♀️
One I didn't do with my big that I want to try with O is oatmeal. It's a healthy easy meal so maybe she'll like it.
I was late leaving work and so mh picked up the girls today. O gave me SO many kisses. Girl knows how to make her mama feel special. She's def a mama's girl!!

I am sure when I start doing it more, I will feel better about it. Here's the article I was reading earlier: "Spoon-fed babies choked just as much as babies who fed themselves, the researchers report in the September Pediatrics. At 6 months of age, about 22 percent of spoon-fed babies had choked at least once. In the baby-led weaning group, about 18 percent of babies had choked at least once. Choking rates between the two groups were on par as the babies grew older." www.sciencenews.org/blog/growth-curve/baby-led-weaning-safe-if-done-rightAnd here's a more recent study it looks like (from December 2017) also saying that BLW poses no increased risk of choking: "Baby‐led weaning was not associated with increased risk of choking and the highest frequency of choking on finger foods occurred in those who were given finger foods the least often." onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1111/jhn.12528

We have done banana and avocado with J and she was not a fan. Tonight my two big girls had a picnic of taco chicken and J crawled over, grabbed some off of their plates, and chowed it down 😂 it was chunks of chicken too, not shredded or anything. She has zero teeth. Don't be afraid to try non mushy foods! For DD1 and DD2 I am pretty sure their first BLW foods were celery sticks and carrot sticks at BWW :-P
