So my friend did last year so she could finish up her schooling. It happens a lot at my company so it's no big deal here.
The major thing to consider here is you will lose your health/dental benefits. You have to maintain 30 hours a week on average to keep them and part time is only allowed the maximum of 25 hours.
The other thing no one warned her about in her department is she was dropped in seniority for scheduling. Full timers get first priority and then part timers fill in the gaps.
She's thinks she will be done with school by the end of the fall semester next year. She wants to go back to full time once she's done but doesn't know if her department will have a full time spot open when she's ready.
She's loved dropping down though. She is able to go to work and school and still see her family. Her H has benefits through his job so it wasn't a big deal to them. His cost a little bit more then through our company but it wasn't a deal breaker for them.

She talked with her direct manager first to see if he would be okay with it. Luckily a part time person just left her department so she took that position (same job) and then they backfilled her spot. She then talked to her boss and hr about the transition. She ended up training the person backfilling her spot for 3 weeks then going to part time. She said it was easy and no one had any issues.

I went part time after I had C. I work in a hospital and prior to that half of my appointment was inpatient and half was outpatient, so it was easy to just drop one of them. It can be a bit tricky to go part time here because it's not just a matter of getting the work done, we have to actually physically be present each day to see patients so things have to end up lining up perfectly. Right now I job share with someone else, so we work opposite schedules. I'm 24 hours, soon to be 20 (I'll do Wed, Thurs e/o Fri). I also still get benefits, they just cost a bit more.

I went PT after my second and it has been a life changer. But I don't have much advice for you b/c I work for a small company (~60 people) and I am HR. So it was easy for me to reach a deal with myself Right now I am 3 full days per week. Things have been busy and I have been coming in a 4th most weeks but hopefully will be able to cut back down to 3 once it gets quieter.

I saw you already covered the subject of health benefits, but did you also discuss retirement plans and paid time off? Not sure what your company’s minimum hour requirement is for those things, but its worth checking. I would also discuss w them how paid holidays work. Will they be giving you the holiday pay if it is not your scheduled work day or can you float it, etc.
