Just curious, since it seems to be split by location, when does your N13er start K?

RI's cut off is September 1st so C did 2 years of preschool and now will go to Pre-K at the same school. Kindergarten will be next fall.

Cadence starts next fall. She has a year in "junior kindergarten", which is basically just Pre-k year 2, although she was only in the first pre-k for 6 months. She could stay in first year for 6 more months and then move up, but I think a whole year will be better for her.

Ds has been going to school / kindergarten since he turned 4, he’ll start first grade 20-21, so at that point he will have had close to three years in kindergarten.

LO will go next fall. We miss the cutoff by a few months and he did not test in at his private school.

Evie did 3 y/o pre-school last year, and does 4 y/o pre-school this year. She will do half-day kindergarten next year. Just in time for Theo to start 3 y/o pre-school...and the cycle continues. I am going to have kids in half-day programs for.ev.er.

I think I'm one of the very few outliers. Colin will start all-day kindergarten in the fall. Eligibility in CT is driven off of birth year, and Colin's been mainstreamed with the 2013 kids for the last 2 years. He's consistently been the youngest or very close, but it hasn't made much of a difference. And less this past year than the year before. He's pretty easily influenced and for that reason, his behavior is far better when surrounded by older kids than younger kids. And he's never struggled with the curriculum. He's gone back and forth trying to decide if he's right or left handed but he's got a memory cagoldi would be proud of and he's showing some promise with numbers. Watching baseball is an exercise in basic arithmetic these days, it's hysterical. That said, I sometimes wish we'd have asked to hold him back 2 years ago because I don't feel like we really have a choice at this point. It would be cruel to hold him back while all his friends go to big kid school. Admittedly there are a few kids being held back but they are all already in alternate (or supplemental) programs because they aren't academically ready. We considered - but decided against - a year of Montessori kindergarten because we'd still have a decision to make next year when he moved to public school (another year of kindergarten or 1st grade) plus I don't want to force an already introverted kid into an extra transition. My concern is that down the road, he could become a target for bullying. He's everyone's friend and has fortunately never been small for his age, but I see a lot of similarities between him and my brother as a kid. And my brother was bullied until the day he graduated high school. Granted he also spent much of elementary school wearing a patch on one eye and he was never into sports - neither of those things helped him socially. Also I keep reminding myself that I was one of the oldest in my grade and my best friend was one of the youngest, and it never mattered. But Colin's my baby so I will continue second guessing myself pretty much forever!!

B will start Kindergarten in Fall 2019. Cut-off here is 9/30 (in FL it was 8/31).
He'll do Pre-K this year (5 mornings/week) at a private preschool. He's been attending preschool 2 and then 3 mornings a week since he was not quite 2.

I should point out that Colin has also been in full-time daycare since he was 11 weeks old. Red shirting is not a rare thing in CT by any means, but it does seem to be far more prevalent among middle class and wealthy families where the kids either stayed at home with Mom or a grandparent.

Dude just finished Pre-K. The cut-off here is 9/2, so CA has a Transitional Kindergarten for kiddos with Fall birthdays. They also do a "wraparound" Kindergarten connection program, so he will do TK in the am, then they mirror the kindergarten work in the afternoon. Rumor has it that they can test out of K if they complete TK successfully and go straight to First grade, but I need to get more information on that. Dude has a very low threshold for frustration so my primary concern for him is meeting some resistance with something that doesn't come so easily and giving up/get discouraged.

I didn't read yet. Connecticut's cut off is December 31, so she could go to kindergarten. We considered it (and are technically still considering it, but more and more I lean toward another year of preschool to let her mature. She is on the waiting list for our school district's preschool (which would've been a no-brainer – five days a week, three hours each morning), but because there isn't a spot for her, we have registered her for both kindergarten and for a preschool in a neighboring town. We've met with everybody involved and I believe we're leaning toward the last option. I wish we didn't have to pay for another year, but such is life.

N will start fall of 2019. We have a 9/1 cutoff. She had preschool at a church based preschool TTh morning this last school year and will go MWF morning this coming school year. Kindergarten will be through the public school

M starts Fall 2019. He did Pre K3 last year and will start Pre K4 next month. Not sure if we will keep him in the same private school for K or send him to a different school.
I was hoping to send him to the public system here, but our county schools are in danger of losing accreditation. We find out this year if it will actually happen, but the two teachers in the system I’ve talked to seem to think it is a definite. I’ll still do a school tour of the magnet school in the system this fall, but I’m not too sure about it as of now and it’s a lottery to get in. It would be amazing to be able to go back to only paying for 1 kid for school.

H will go to K fall 2019. She was in a 2 day a week preschool last year and will be going to 5 morning a week pre-k this year. We had to pay a book fee so I’m assuming it’s a little more academic than the regular preschool classes.

M will start next fall. He was supposed to do 2 day preschool last year but didn't potty train in time. So he's doing 3 day this year, and very excited! And he'll do Kinder next year. I've heard rumors that they have a half day option. I might consider that, depending on how he does in preschool.

I know it's not an easy choice for working parents, but I do wish there was the option of half-day kindergarten this area.

I'm very fortunate to have such a flexible work schedule with working from home and for my dad. And the school is 4 minutes from my house. If my baby sitter has to many kids and can't transport I would just get him and take him to her on baby sitter days.

So it looks like NY and CT (and Canada) are doing K and everyone else waits a year? guster what a tough choice to make. I’m glad our cutoff is oct 1 so I didn’t have to think about it. I stressed enough about moving him into the pre k program 5 months ago. I’m sure whatever you decide will be right for J!
