Still no Smeargle. I'm not seeing anything that indicates it's only a limited time offer, so I won't completely give up but I also won't go nuts with the photos anymore. You can't trade him. I don't know if that's significant or not (I'm new).

I have enough flower crown Eevees to evolve into each of the forms once I have enough candy. That thought excites me more than it probably should.

We have a land trust marker down the street from my house for some preserved land behind our neighborhood. I keep trying to get that added as a PokeStop but whenever I've tried they weren't accepting new requests.

No stops I can reach from my house. There's one on the backside of the my work building, but I have to actually go out into the parking lot to reach it. So annoying.

Hi all, I'm a dirty lurker from NJCD and I'm jumping in to say I play and I need friends. I'm going back through to add everyone who's shared numbers. So if you get a random new request, it's me.

Did you all see about today’s lunch raid event?? No! 12-1p local time- all gyms without raids will have an egg (supposedly all 5 star) appear at 11:50a. They’ll hatch at noon and be available for an hour

Made it to 3 raids. Caught 3/3 on my primary account and 2/3 on my secondary. Thanks for saying something earlier cmb - I would have had no idea it was going on otherwise.

I was disappointed they didn’t advertise it 🙄 They should do it with legendaries that aren’t that month’s catch, though

For most people a different Boss would be nice. A few people I met up with said this wasn't widely published as it was some sort of test to see how it went. The group I linked up with made it to 6 raids in a town that requires driving between stops.

I’m more like “half that month’s raid boss, half one from the past” kind of thinking. I think you’re right about it being quiet for a reason. We had a 20 person group, but I bailed once I used up my two passes. I think they had planned to hit 5 or 6 of them.

Sorry to just jump in here...my kid, who us 5, has seen Pokemon Go videos on You Tube and wanted to play. I downloaded it, signed him up with a kids account amd we walked around the park for an hour catching Pokemon and stopping at all the pokestops. I couldnt figure out the gyms....
So, my question is should I just let him walk around and catch the Pokemon or is there some other 5 year old appropriate things he should be doing?
Thanks for any advice!

I’ve seen kids around that age out with parents. My friend’s daughter was 8 when it came out and has played ever since. This may be an UO, but I think it’s fine if limiting it to a few hours per week and making it a familyish outing, where you all go on walks and outings together

I downloaded it on my cell phone for my 5yo. This is basically what we do. Go out and he catches a few Pokemon. If it's a day we can't go out, I'll let him play in the house for a bit and he'll use the camera to take pictures of the Pokemon in our house (we'll put out our hands to make it look like we are holding them, silly things like that).

If you just started playing, you won't be eligible for the gyms yet. Once you level up enough, I believe it's level 5, you/he will be able to battle your Pokemon against the ones in the gyms if that's something you choose to let him do.

Lile is there another object to this game that he can do at 5 other than catch the Pokemon.

He can hatch eggs by incubating them and walking, though I don’t know what level that starts After he hits level 5, he can join a team and then battle opposing gyms. Raids, where groups of people meet to get try to take down rare Pokémon, start at level 10 (I think. Maybe it’s 5?). They sort of force you to meet up with people

Lile is there another object to this game that he can do at 5 other than catch the Pokemon. Pretty much the entire point of Pokemon Go is to catch Pokemon. You catch Pokemon to fill your Pokedex: "Gotta catch 'em all!" But there are a few other aspects to the game. This is probably more information than what you are looking for, but here are other things that you can do. Gyms: There are gyms battles that he can do when you reach a certain level. They aren't hard and don't require any type of skill. You just find a gym that is a different team color than your own (red, blue or yellow) and battle all the pokemon until their hearts are all empty. Then you can place one of your own Pokemon in the gym and earn Poke Coins to use in the shop. If you come across a gym that is the same color as your team you can just add a pokemon into without battling if there's room (can only be 6 Pokemon in a gym at once). Raids: They happen at gyms and you'll know one is on it's way because there will be an egg on the top of the gym with a count down. If the Raid has already started then you'll see a Pokemon on top of the gym with a count down. There are different levels of raids. You can do the lower ones on your own but the high level ones require groups of people. If you beat the Raid boss you get a chance to capture the Pokemon you just battled. Research tasks: You get these when you spin a Pokestop. You can only hold 3 tasks at a time. When you complete one you will get either items or an encounter with a Pokemon and a stamp. After 7 stamps you will get a "breakthrough" which gives you items and also a rare Pokemon to catch (usually changes each month). You can only get 1 stamp a day but you can complete as many tasks a day as you want. Trading: You need friends to do this and you have to be in close proximity. But you can trade Pokemon with friends. Friends: You can get friends by sending your friend code to people, or entering some else's friend code and adding them. A lot of posters shared their own in here. You can send gifts to friends, even if they are not close by. You get gifts from spinning discs (either at gyms or stops). Full disclosure here, when you send a gift it will show like a postcard with the name and location of where they got the gift from. Ex: Starbucks, Seattle, WA. Community Day: Happens once a month and for 3 hours on either a Saturday or Sunday a specific Pokemon will pop up way more frequently and will also have a high shiny rate. Shiny Pokemon are just a different color scheme than the normal one but are rare. Eggs: You get these from stops or friends. There are different color eggs - green (2k), yellow (5k), purple (10k) and pink/yellow (7k and you can only get them from friends). You can put an egg in an incubator and walk with it. You have 1 incubator in your bag that will always be there. You can also buy temporary ones (3 uses) from the shop. There are also super incubators which hatch an egg in half the distance. Spin stops 7 days in a row and you'll get a ton of items as a reward. Catch Pokemon 7 days in a row and you'll get extra candy and stardust for evolving or powering up the Pokemon.

This is really helpful. This game is a lot of fun but they really don't give you much info when you start playing. Like they tell you how to catch and spin a stop (I think?) but past that you're pretty much on your own to figure out the rest of it. My 5 year old doesn't have his own account yet but he loves spinning stops on catching pokemon on mine. He think it's hilarious when they jump out of the ball and escape.

An account on Niantic Kids cannot add friends or exchange gifts, as those are geotagged.
