So H just left his physical and basically his doctor told him he's border line for several things. He was told to get an immediate follow up on his colonoscopy, a liver scan to check for fatty liver, cut carbs, and he's pre-diabetic.
So I am going to focus on recipes. I honestly haven't focused a ton in the sugar or carbs when cooking. So share any recipes please! We're adventurous eaters. I'm gluten free, but I can pretty much adapt any recipe to fit my diet. TIA.

DH's dad had diabetes and the big thing was items that could quickly change to sugar in the blood, like starchy carbs/bread type items. A lot of fresh vegetables! I actually think gluten free aligns nicely with that, because I remember having to really limit the pasta/bread/potatoes in my cooking.
Things like Minestrone soup are good!

I'm just going to spam haha. Another great sub is a baked sweet potato (load with regular toppings not the marshmallow abomination I experienced while visiting your lovely country haha) If you want to make it a meal you can put pulled pork on top. paleoleap.com/pulled-pork-stuffed-sweet-potatoes/You can search for Paleo or Whole 30 (especially) recipes. The W30 doesn't allow sugar or grains so those recipes will be close to what you are needing

the chicken white chili recipe is good - I add avocado and cilantro White Chicken ChiliI do black beans with avocado, salsa, onions and shredded chicken. If you are interested in sweet potato street tacos let me know - i can email you the recipe. All the fresh veggies. Sauteed with minimal oil and season with garlic. Use quinoa instead of rice. Pick your fruits wisely as they had hidden carbs and sugar. Also check out weight watchers - my mom is a diabetic and she uses their cook books all the time.

And just let me say - you got this. You guys will rock at changing up his diet. Also, start nightly walks as a family to get some exercise in there.

Thanks everyone. I am pinning all of the things. The biggest issue is going to be his beer, but we'll figure it out. I'm grateful that we love to cook, so we just need to tweak what we're cooking. redandblue please share your favorite whole 30 recipes please!

I have left over steak bites. Marinated with Montreal steak spice. Anyone have any idea how I could use these for left overs (again - last night I made beef wraps).

Or are we supposed to be healthy in this thread? If so then just eat them as is with grilled veggies on the side. (But I would go with nachos).

I also like to do a simple purple cabbage slaw with a small purple cabbage, shredded, a shredded apple, a shredded carrot, chopped green onions, the juice of two oranges, a touch of olive oil, a pinch of salt, a pinch of cayenne and maybe some crushed nuts on top. I have it as a side, or I use it in tacos a lot.

Also summer rolls— get rice paper wrappers and fill them with lettuce, fresh herbs, veggies, tofu or shrimp, etc.

armpants, So what does he need to do about the beer? DH ended up switching to a more gluten free option, which helped him. And then lately we have been having more craft beers, where we find we don't drink as much.

I also don't have an exact recipe, but if you are having a sweet craving I make these frozen 'cookies/chocolates'. You mix coconut oil, with almond butter, shredded coconut, some cocoa and I usually add seeds if I have them. Mix it all up, and then drop them on a sheet and put them in a freezer. So awesome to satisfy the sweet tooth!

redandblue he's alreasy a big craft beer guy, he needs to cut back on the amount. He's been drinking wine a little more recently, and has agreed that he can switch to more wine. He drinks less when he has a glass of wine as well. I really appreciate all the ideas ladies!

armpants, your H might also want to try kombucha. I feel like it can offer some of the same type of feel/ satisfaction as a beer.
