Well shit, vino . I think you're busy that day? Well schucks, I am busy that day. It's a whole mind fuck thing, because yes I could lie and just not tell B, no one would ever know. OR do i do the right thing and provide the real reason why I'm not going, that I don't support zoos...it's not like I'd be protesting outside her house ; explain to B, once again, that we don't zoo using it as a good lesson time. THEN deal with MH who's all, 'whatever go with the flow, your beliefs dont have to be everyones'. Yes H I know that others go and take their kids but then isnt that the whole point of raising kids, passing on our beliefs. Yes, the worst part of this would be dealing with MH, he'd be annoying. /rant over I say you send YH to the birthday party at the zoo by himself.

Hi guys! Just checking in to say hi! We got back from vacation yesterday, and it was so much fun, but now we’re quarantined to the house because C had a raging case of HFM. Oh no! Poor baby!

I would lie vino but I think that’s kid dependent. If I told C why he couldn’t go he would run to school and chastise everyone for supporting zoos and likely make people feel bad. He doesn’t have a filter. We discussed pet adoption and he told someone at Tball with a new designer puppy “we don’t buy puppies because pets need to be rescued and puppies poop on the floor”. While I was secretly proud, the poor kids face fell and he looked to his mom like he was kicked. Then the mom and I did some damage control. All that to say- if B can keep his opinions to himself or present them in a more respectful way than C can, be honest.

I don’t really either. Well sometimes. I’m the worst. That sucks though. C asked me about the circus and I saw red and had a hard time not going postal on the idea of it so I get it. Dude asked me about the circus last week (not to go, just general questions) and I told him we don't go because it hurts the animals. When he pushes for more info, I say the animals are scared and sad and belong in the wild with their families. He's fine with that. We go to the "zoo" that is a rescue/rehab center. Is it that kind or a regular zoo, vino? There are a few books about this on Amazon, if you think those would help. We have "Tiny Tallulah and the Trouble With Zoos." It sucks big time for your kid to miss out, I get it.

I read a thread recently about zoos being awful but some really do a lot of research and are genuinely trying to help save species, so there's good with the bad. The national one is a tad depressing, but I do think they are actively trying to do good.
I think I'd just decline and not say why, it's probably not on the mom's radar and she would be disappointed she inadvertently offended someone while trying to plan a party for her kid. And if it's a close friend, I'd prob even suck it up and go, kids notice who comes to the parties.

It's terrible what they've done to that poor girl. I can't get behind having elephants anywhere except sanctuaries and the wild, obviously.

Re: saving species, I know I'm in the minority on this but I don't think having a certain amount locked up will ever amount to them being "saved."
Individuals suffer, species don't.
And I don't have the stats in front of me but off the top of my head, I think it's like eight out of 112 species have ever been brought back from the brink, and all of those efforts were on the part of government, not zoos.
I do think they are trying to do good, or most big ones are, but they still get trafficked animals and ship around "surplus" animals, and they don't do a particularly good job of conservation in general and are probably even worse at education. I don't doubt that most zookeepers care about the animals.

While i can appreciate the zoo keepers care and they think they’re ‘helping’ I just cannot see it. To help B understand I’ve put on livefeeds of wildlife parks in Africa and shown on a map where we are and where the animals are from, to help him understand why we dont zoo.

He doesn’t have a filter. This. S has no filter and likes to impose our rules/values on others, even though I repeatedly tell him that every family does things differently and that doesn’t make anyone right or wrong, just different.

vino 1) tell your husband to shove it if he doesn’t support your reasons 2) I don’t think it’s a big deal to miss it anyway. We’ve missed tons of parties due to schedule, me just not wanting to go, etc. If you do decide to tell B about it, I’d say just do sonething extra fun with him that day to make up for missing it

vino it's hard. I agree with others that your H needs to respect your decision on this unless he wants to handle the party by himself. We just turned down a party at a laser tag place because we don't do gun play. When he's older and understand the difference I would be okay but I think he would think it was okay to pretend gun okay at home and shoot people. The mom got it, she even said she was on the fence about it but her H wanted it. Good luck!

LO and my parents made it to their house. He's bouncing off the walls touching everything. They want to go to bed early tonight so we already FaceTime-d.
E is no longer constipated, 3 major poop filled diapers later. So tonight sleep should be better.

vino can you link the wild animal cameras you watch? That sounds cool. xolastunicornxo sorry about HFM I went to urgent care. Got a chest X-ray that was clear. Have a z pack. I think the ups and downs of the past 2 weeks have just beat me up. I had a fever at my grandma’s funeral but just kinda sucked it up because what else could I do? I’m hoping for a better night’s sleep. C is down already but has a horrible diaper rash, his first ever. Don’t know if he has my illness or if it’s just all the new food he’s been eating.

Hi! We are back from the ballgame, kids are asleep, and DH and I are vegetating on the sofa. It was...not relaxing. C is just not at an age where she is a great spectator. She looked adorable in her Lilly, though, and got several compliments from people around us as she tried to eat popcorn off the ground  She smacked B when he wouldn't remove his foot from a piece she was trying to pick up. #bosslady
B had fun, though, and we got to take the lite-rail, and turns out it was .50 hotdog, drink and popcorn night, so that was a win. But we probably won't do another baseball game this season unless we have a sitter, lol.

Work tonight kind of sucked. It rained most of the time I was there so I stayed in the covered area. There really isn’t that much to do so time crawls. Now I’m home watching the bachelorette. I got heartburn but I have no idea why, I hadn’t eaten anything or drank anything but water. So annoying.

chrisy01 and jewels MH absolutely supports my decisions and feeings on zoos, he just isnt as vocal or passionate about this, or anything really. I’m pretty passionate about my views and he gets a little eye-rolly with me. It’s cool, I’m a Taurus, I’m used to it and have thick skin.

Lol, thousands of years of domesticated house cats up to 20 lbs is nothing compared to the elephant pacing a small cage and trying to convince people it’s a ‘good thing’ and for ‘education’ especially because my climate is probably the furthest aways from their natural environment; or the monkeys swinging in a glass enclosure in a make shift jungle, or the lion pacing, or the lemurs in Alberta. No, just no. If I go and spend my money, in any capacity, it shows that I’m supporting their culture of caged animals, and I just don't. Others do, that’s cool. I just dont.

Animals that have been bred over thousands of years to be domesticated companions are hardly comparable to zebras and elephants. Buying animals for pets can never be justified. Rescuing animals that would otherwise be killed is making the best of a bad situation. As much as I love cats and dogs, I don't think that we're doing them any favors (as a species) either. Yeah, my cat is happy but the millions being euthanized each year are not. Dogs and cats are not being kidnapped from their natural habitat for human entertainment. As far as they're concerned, our homes are their natural habitat. Most wouldn't survive the wild. That's not the case with the animals in the zoo.
