lahdeedah, I just checked our Y and it’s $60 for 8 sessions. Problem is that the next session is already full! I may need to wait til fall. And I’m thinking to see if they’ll let C enroll even though he won’t quite be 3. But the classes for his age are way too babyish: blowing bubbles, water play etc. I can’t put him in a class w a range of 6mo - 3yo. What a huge age gap to have classes for!

Shit cagoldi, ugh, home ownership is the WORST sometimes. Shit lahdeedah, that's expensive! It is expensive, but the length of the lessons was what got to me. It would take my kids longer to get dressed and undressed.

I've got a couple tickets for the 35 million dollar (tax free) lottery tonight, everyone cross your appendages that I win so I can spread the wealth. And by spread the wealth, I hope you mean our very own N13 compound somewhere warm. Good Luck!!!

I was determined to have LO know how to swim. When I was living in Hawaii with my grandparents my grandma took me to the beach. I didn't know how to swim and neither did my grandma. I almost drowned. I became very fearful of water after that. I did not want LO to be scared of water so that's why we started at 6 months with LO. Oh we go swimming all the time, definitely not scared of the water, just nothing formal. This is where we are. But we will do formal swim lessons this year. I'm having somebody come to the house, though.

I think 95% of Dutch kids start swimming lessons between 4.5-5.5, you work towards a swimming diploma. On average kids take around 18 months to get the diploma when taking one hour long class every week.
ETA pools are not the issue over here, but water is everywhere.

dapostrophe how do you have so much energy already? I'm struggling and I just have 2 and I have help. I don't really, I just burn myself out in the morning and then try to rest when Theo & Bea are napping. My older two little ones are at camp all day. By evening I am wiped out.

Yes, you all read right. It's a 10 min one on one session. I'm glad you all are having my initial reaction. After thinking about it all yesterday, I was like, well for the peace a mind, it's probably worth it. Before I schedule M2 for the fall session, I will be looking around more. It's usually hard to find times that work with our schedules at the private run places. I didn't even price those out since it doesn't work schedule-wise.

Yeah, that sounds ridiculous lahdeedah. Check this website and see if there is one near you. www.infantswim.com/lessons/isr-lessons.htmlH did swimming lessons through one of the colleges right before she turned 2. It kind of felt like a waste so I’m waiting to enroll S in a class until she’s 3. Last summer H did the city pool swimming lessons that are 30 minutes, every day for 1 week. That costs $15. She’s going to do that again this summer, actually the week after next.

cagoldi when will they install the new AC? Not sure yet, I'll be talking to them again this afternoon. After that quote, Pete is thinking about just getting a few more window units. It should be fine since we plan to upgrade all our electrical and install another breaker, so we'll see. I was thinking maybe $5,000-$6,000. I know we have some permitting that needs to be approved through the city and other random fees so in reality we're taking $10,000 to replace it.

Not interested in driving my kids and getting them changed for a ten minute lesson. No way.

What a huge age gap to have classes for! + vino Honestly I wouldn't worry about the classes too much then and just go swimming as a family and work on skills. The classes we have in our area are not that great either. They are okay, but there's a big range from one level to the next so it's hard to move up and progress and you get taught the same "baby" skills over and over again. Have some time at the pool just for fun, and other times working on basics like strokes, floating, crab walk along the edge of the pool (grabbing onto the sides and moving plus pulling themselves out), jumping in and putting their whole head under. Cass loves wearing a snorkel and then she can see exactly what I do underwater and mimic my strokes. We do things like bring diving rods and make it a game to try to race and get them (this is in water that is only about 3.5 feet deep). Kick boards and pool noodles are also great to give a bit of assistance but help them practice actual swimming. I had each of the girls in lessons for a while but we haven't done them for a year for this reason, but their swimming skills have still developed a lot. I also take them in the pool where they can't touch the bottom occasionally so they can really practice their skills. I used to make sure one of the kids is in a puddle jumper and the other have a noodle nearby if she needed it.

lahdeedah That’s about on target for what private rescue swimming lessons cost. At least it was for my daughter. And I’m about to put two more kids in it when we move 😩 and that’s how ours were 10 minutes for a certain amount of weeks. However it was money well spent- hence why we are going to do it again with G & L. She loves swimming and is a really great swimmer. She’s in my parents pool summer... I don’t have to worry about her at all. I can’t wait to get my other two to that level.

So S is definitely sick which is such a bummer since this is the only weekend this month Mh is in town. I’m hoping he feels better tomorrow - our day care is rented out a movie theater for the incredibles movie and he’s so excited for it.
I’m thinking we’ll dose him with meds and take him regardless but he’s had no appetite and he was so looking forward to movie theater popcorn!

Made it to the hotel. I'm exhausted. That drive was made longer by the 4 year old bitching and moaning in the back. I'm hungry, are we there yet, I need to poop. It was great. She is already saying the hotel is boring, but I just want to lay on the couch for a few minutes.

I hope he feels better jewels. Has he been to the doc? I would take him in, just in case, with all the strep going around lately. Out of it and decreased appetite is how M started when he had it. I hope for him its just a cold. yummeecookee M started lessons at 18 months at the Y. He did it then and at 2.5. When he was 2 there was a 9 month old in that class and she was amazing. It was definitely her 2nd or 3rd session, but she did better than a few big kids. It wasn't all just blowing bubbles. I had to be in the pool with him and we practiced going under water, jumping off the side, and floating. It was worth it just for him to get more comfortable with being in the water. If C is already comfortable, then you probably can skip it.

I just pulled O from his swim lessons. It’s probably my fault that i took him this week when he was still recovering from being sick and he refused to get in. He also didn’t like the teacher. This would have been his third lesson but lesson 2 was a different teacher who engaged him so much more. On his third lesson when he was back with the original teacher she never said hi to him or anything to try to get him to join her, so i told the people we quit. We are going on vacation in a week anyway which i would have had to pay for that missed week.
I’m hoping to work with him myself and if i decide to put him back in, make sure he gets a better teacher.
The thing is, in July i was going to have his friend’s mom watch him from 12-3ish mon-fri and she told me she has an above ground pool. After the Bode Miller drowning I’m really nervous about this. What if her 2 boys convince O to get in the pool to retrieve a ball or something when they are playing in the yard, etc. I’m at least gonna go there to see the setup before i decide.

Evie had swim lessons when she was ~9 month old. I felt like they were kind of a waste. She spends a lot of time at the pool and lake. At the pool, she always has her puddle jumper on. At the lake, she always has a life jacket on, even when walkig om the dock to get to the boat.
If we had a pool in our backyard, I'd probably push more for lessons, but I never took actual lessons, and can swim. I grew up at the lake which is how im planning on her learning as well.
