I'm ignoring the field trip drama because I don't have the energy to make sense of it.
I'm watching Queer Eye and MH is getting sucked it. He's been standing in his running clothes "about to go for a run" for this entire episode.

You do realize that the number of teachers and kid ratios are state regulated and aren't any different than the classroom so it really isn't that different

You pick her up at release time though no? so they wouldn't need you to sign her out because the day is done. I guess that makes sense. I guess where I get caught up from a hypothetical standpoint is...I'm the legal guardian of my kid. If I came to school and said that I needed to get my kid and hadn't filled out the proper forms, what would they do? Detain my kid? Arrest me? It almost seems like a lawsuit situation waiting to happen at some point if something were ever to happen to a child on school property after a legal guardian tried to pick them up. (Yes, I know the other scenario is a liability concern too which is why they have the forms. And to be perfectly clear, NO I AM NOT PLANNING TO DO THIS.) Anyway, that is neither here nor there at this point. I just hope that tomorrow I don't find out that half the parents are driving their kids because they were given the correct info. (Although I guess then maybe there would be room for parents on the bus? LOL) Also to be clear, if I hadn't been slightly concerned about the number of chaperones on the bus, or it was a shorter trip, or it was not on major highways, or there were better seat restraints, I probably wouldn't have even asked in the first place. It was the combo of all those factors that made me nervous (plus also probably the fact there have been a few well-reported school-bus accidents in my state in the last month that resulted in injuries/fatalities which was perfect timing for the first time I'm sending my kid on a school bus alone :-P ). You'd go to the office and sign her out. They would contact the teacher (via intercom or whatever) and then she'd come to the office. So basically they are having you sign her out on paper before the trip so that the teacher isn't hauling around a sign out sheet the day of.

I also wouldn't be 100% taking the word of a teacher when you've been told two different things. Ask the director/principal or look in the handbook.

So unless they are having extra folks on the bus (which, granted, perhaps they are), it would be the same number of teachers for up to twice the number of kids (depending how many attend). DDs class is also an inclusion class so it includes SN kids. We will see tomorrow.

The bus is actually a big part of the field trip and one of the goals is to give all of the kids familiarity with riding one with teachers on board to help them before starting kindie. They get really excited about it. School bus skills are often a part of kids’ IEPs. 🤷🏻♀️

I'll admit that maybe I wasn't the best person to answer the question in the first place. My DD is the same age as OP's but is in a licensed in-home daycare rather than a school or a more school-like center, so if I wanted to put her in my car at any point in time it would never be an issue. Since I don't have the experience maybe I shouldn't have spoken up. It's just difficult for me to imagine.

DD and I ventured out to Costco cuz I was in the mood for cake. We each ate a piece, and I saved a chunk for later, then put the rest in the break room. On my way out, the HR director stopped me to introduce herself. We got to chatting, and it turns out MH’s hotel does a beer and appetizer tasting on Wednesday evenings and he never told me!! Guess where I’ll be at 5?!

we close early on our house ! Friday. I’m so excited and relieved. And while a lot of drama went into it, I’ll shorten the story to say the current owners have to now be out two weeks earlier than we originally agreed so we have some breathing room to move

geekygirly I find your whole post extra. The bus and seat belt thing is known and well known and old as hell. I think it's one of the reasons they have those high ass seats. Also they are made to not even go over a certain MPH. Not saying that shit doesn't happen. Also in my experience with one going into 7th grade and the other 2nd grade and the previous children I had in my care. Yes, you have to sign a paper explicitly stating your kid is not riding the bus and will ride back with you. I mean I have even been in the situation where I followed the bus back to school and then checked my kid out. Just lean in. She will be there and you will be there. The end.

I have to let go and let God with the field trip thing. My blood sugar is low and this affect my ability to not say things short and to the point.

🤷♀️ I assume the release is to release the school of any liability should you wreck on the way to the amusement park (not that they would anyway but cya and all)
FWIW the bus was the highlight of the field trip for RD from preK-1st

Oh if the list gets cut, Cincinnati probably won’t make it. And that's the one I hope stays so I can drive to it instead of having to fly to NY! gahhh If it is cut, I may finally get H to take a trip to NYC with me! I will shop and stuff my face and he can watch soccer.

Congrats! What will you be teaching? Thank you! It will be middle school health including sex ed haha That's actually one of my favourite things to teach. So many people do it poorly, just rushing through it.

Primarily this. I think I also would have felt better if there was any acknowledgement that I had been given the wrong info before, rather than just "Well if YOU had done X, but since YOU didn't..." As far as everything else, I assume you trusted the situation when you gave permission for your child to go on the field trip, so I’m not sure what’s changed.
I was always a bit nervous about it, but recognized the odds are things would be fine, and didn't want my kid to miss the trip because of me. So I pushed past my nerves to do what I felt was the best thing for my kid. I’m just taking this all as nerves from what sounds like a first-time bigger field trip.Yeah, and reading articles about a school bus crash in my state a few weeks ago where TW {Spoiler}a child and teacher died and some other kids suffered horrific injuries (it turned out the driver had a history of moving violations and license suspensions but it wasn't within the law's threshold to look backward at his driving history)
probably didn't help matters. I fully recognize my concerns are likely excessive, which is why I'm still letting DD go on the trip. I'm not keeping her home. I'm not throwing a hissy fit to the teacher or school. (I didn't even mention to the teacher today that she gave me different info before.) Instead I've been hyping up the bus to my DD the last few days, and vented my concerns/annoyance only on here and to DH, as one does. I've also about a week ago finally talked to my GP about the anxiety issues I feel I've had pretty much since DD was born. I've been in a denial off and on about it for a long time, convincing myself I could deal with it on my own. It primarily manifests itself in making mountains out of molehills and seeing the worst possible scenario in various situations. With help from DH, I think I've been pretty effective in not letting it affect DD's day-to-day life too much as far as overprotectiveness, but it does cause me stress and is a struggle. I'm working on getting into a psychologist and the GP gave me a prescription for meds (although I haven't taken them yet...partially due to anxiety about side effects [fun how that works], and partially because I've read most people feel like crap the first few weeks and I want to feel healthy enough to enjoy the festivities of DD's last few weeks of her first year of school). But yeah, sometimes for me and I'm sure for others on this board, it is difficult not to be OTT at times.

I feel like some of the teachers are more nervous about talking about it than the kids and rush through it. I can't tell you how college students I taught at my last job who had no clue about their body. It's sad. My He's friends still haven't had "the talk" yet with their kid and he's a senior HS.
