mrsp84 sometimes he’ll do that in his sleep. He’s one of these that he needs the sucking motion to fall asleep but spits it out as soon as he’s asleep. So when he’s starting to stir we usually have a few pacifier pop ins.

I *think* j’s 4 month sleep regression came early (around 3.5 months). He had 3 nights in a row of getting up EVERY HOUR! Since then, he has slept through the night with an occasional wake-up. He sleeps till 5a or 6a. I hope this continues! I jinxed myself and spoke too soon ..... we are on our second night in a row of J having horrible sleep with a lot of wakeups

Is there a 6 month regression?
Not sure if you can count this as a regression since she never slept through the night but now we are back to 2 wake ups from 1. And we fed her cereal before bed. Ugh. It maybe gave us an extra 15 minutes before the first wake up.

sarahh I’ve just always felt until they’re down to two naps a day everything seems inconsistent. Was this the first time you fed her cereal before bed? Maybe she was just feeling different trying to digest? 🤷🏼♀️ Totally making shit up over here.

ajetter yeah it was right before her last bottle. I probably just need to be more consistent about doing it each night so she gets used to it. She normally doesn’t sleep through the night but it’s normally just one wake up.

I really look forward to a vacation, where I can go to bed whenever I want, and wake up whenever I want. That sounds pretty glorious.

Is 5 months too early for sleep training? I can't seem to get her to sleep through the night anymore and I'm sooooooo over it.
Depending on her last name I try to have her asleep in her crib between 8-9. Her last bottle is usually between 7-8 and then I do a dream feed of 4 ounces between 11:30-midnight (she is starting to wake up sometimes around 11:00, if she does I feed her then). She usually wakes up for the first time around 3:30 and it is getting harder and harder to get her back down after that feeding. Multiple trips into the nursery to give her a pacifier, roll her over, unhook her feet from the crib slats, etc. Then she will finally sleep for another few hours and then wake up around 5:30-6:00 and then I just bring her straight into our bed to snuggle and sleep until our alarm goes off at 7:30.
After the 4 month sleep regression she was sleeping through the night or waking up once (also coincided with being exhausted from starting daycare). Then she got a cold that threw everything off again... Now I don't know what is going on. I guess maybe object permanence is kicking in?

aprilz81 I feel like you could get quite the varied response on that one. And I, personally, feel it depends on what the sleep training you’re doing is for. I’ve always waited until 6 months, it just seemed right, and by that point I was fairly confident that they could roll both ways and maneuver into comfortable positions. And we sleep trained to break the suck to sleep and/or rock to sleep association. I still fed them if they woke in the night after midnight, but didn’t make sure they were asleep before going back to bed myself. I think if it feels right, you’re confident her nutritional needs are being met, than do what you need to! Sleep deprivation is so tough.

Since we just transitioned to the crib I'm just kind of muddling along. I probably won't sleep train until 9mo to a year.... Because I'm a sucker.

I think if it feels right, you’re confident her nutritional needs are being met, than do what you need to! Sleep deprivation is so tough. Part of me feels it is too early but I'm also desperate for uninterrupted sleep. She is rolling like a champ (both ways) now and actually slept on her belly a lot last night (and also only had one wake up, WOOHOO!!) So far our "sleep training" is that we are trying to establish a bedtime routine. Bath on bath nights, followed by rocking her until she is almost asleep then doing our best to get her into the crib before being completely asleep. We probably need to be a little more consistent on the routine (sometimes she plays a little after her bath and before rocking her, sometimes she gets a story, sometimes she doesn't) but so far that first stretch of sleep isn't the problem, it is the stretch between 3-6 where she tends to be up multiple times. I also don't usually pick her up after the first wake up in the middle of the night (she gets nursed at the first wake up). I will go back in and put the paci back in her mouth, pat her head, re-position her if her feet are between crib slats, etc. but try not to pick her back up unless I think something is actually wrong. So I guess in a way I am sleep training her.

aprilz81 I know people have sleep trained far earlier. Not that I agree with it, but it isn’t completely ridiculous. Sounds like you guys are on a good path. If it were me, I’d probably wait until her 6 month appointment. Confirm that weight gain and all is well, and then I’d stop doing one of the night feedings. 🤷🏼♀️ Let her cry it out and such. But I’m by no means an expert.

Technically you can do it safely at 3 months but most people I know wait till 6-9months. I am not ready personally because I am also a sucker. lol. I will probably do force myself to do it at 9 months but will hate every moment of it.

Baby went from consistently sleeping 9:30-5/6 to waking every night and it’s an extended wake up. Last night was 1-4:25! Not as bad as bassa but I’m not nice like you guys and I get annoyed with any wake up. I don’t know what’s going on either! She eats but she doesn’t really need to eat she just won’t settle. I don’t see any teeth but maybe they will surprise us. H and I are zombies and I have nothing to give in life during the day now.

Add my kid to the sleeping like shit club. I am legit going crazy. I will probably have to start some night training to help me from completely losing my mind. I do have him out of the swaddle and will go down awake during with minimum interference during the day. Progress I guess.

Oh man. Baby woke up so I went in to feed her. Realized she leaked through her diaper so I set her down to change pajamas and stuff. She LOST. HER. SHIT. I’m profusely sweating now after trying to change her faster than a pit crew so I could stick a boob in her mouth to stop the extreme crying. That’ll wake you up!
Guess I’ll browse the Nordstrom sale. Although half the stuff is way too... weird? For me. Clearly I’m not that stylish.

hi!
It's 2:30am and I can't sleep. Normally, baby is awake by now wanting me to feed her (I just got off of work), but...not tonight? I'm too nervous to go to bed because I might jinx it and she will wake up (she has been sleeping like SHIT that last few weeks--but she has a tooth poking through). So, I'm just gonna sit here for a bit.

maybe. We switched her to the crib last weekend and she did find the first three nights with only her usual one wake up. Since then she’s been up at least two times.
