I was going to ask about that standing board for strollers. DD will be almost 5 when I’m due, so I don’t think I’ll need a double.

She is tall but quite skinny. (44" 32lbs). The boards have a weight limit so check that before you buy one. I got the Guzzy & Gus because it had the highest weight limit (I think 60lbs).

I wanted a Bob with DD. SO didn't go for it. He is in the camp of not believing any baby gear to be necessary. I want a stroller with a bassinet attachment this time so I can try to start using it almost immediately. Anyone have any recs for strollers you love? I already have a universal board attachment for DD so she can ride along behind. Link to the universal board please! So it can attach to any stroller?! My friend and I have been talking about how we do this with 3😬. I’m so scared to have 3. I have an embarrassing amount of strollers. My splurge was our double Bob, which I bought on super sale at Target, used gift cards, and the 5% red card discount. I really wanted a double that i could use with the infant seat and be able to jog with eventually. I looked on Craigslist for months but never found any.

...and I believe that's just the price for the single configuration. The second seat is an additional $160, the 3rd toddler bench seat is $90, and I'm sure there's connector pieces for those that also cost $$. Yeah...I was playing with options last night and it's over 1K Canadian with a bench and a second seat.

Yeah no thanks. I’ll wear baby or the 4 year old can walk! The Guzzie + Gus stroller board is under 100$ Canadian and it's universal...so that could still be an option for you? But I agree about the price. Insane. I'm likely only going to wear baby anyways. Won't stop me from looking though:)

SO suggested duct tape and a pillow instead of a car seat...so yeah. We had nothing for baby the first time around. But I hated my stroller. It was a travel system that was on sale. My one dream is to have a nice stroller...I just can't rationalize it since DD hated hers so much and we almost never used it.

For books, I liked the one by the Mayo clinic and Baby 411 (and then toddler 411) I did Google a lot, but it's so, so hard because there's just way too much conflicting info out there.

Ina May’s guide to childbirth and guide to breastfeeding were both great books. I kind of want to re read the childbirth one! I also used baby connect to keep track of feeds and I still use it now to keep track of stats at well checks.

I took a newborn class and a breastfeeding class with MH. He really loved the video that went with The Happiest Baby on the Block about the 5 Ss (ways to soothe your baby). I liked The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding, even though parts were pretty old fashioned.
The newborn apps ended up stressing me out, especially as sleep deprivation set in. Instead, I’d move a clip or hair tie from one side of my nursing bra to the other to keep track of which side to start on. If you set out 10 diapers every morning then you know that they’re eating enough as long as you use them all.

The 5 cries is on my list too research

Foxy, no, it’s not the same (though I don’t know what the 5 cries is). IIRC, it’s swaddle, suck, swing, side (like football hold), and shhhhh. MH really liked it bc it was like a special toolkit of ways to soothe your baby.

Foxy I had an appointment with a lactation consultant before baby was born and that was honestly the only thing I did. So helpful! I didn't read anything but looked up month by month milestones after baby was here. I just kept a paper planner with feeds, wet diapers, notes from doctors appointments etc. You'll find what works for you. I wouldn't worry about it too much;)

Foxy I second the BabyConnect app. I think it costs a few $$, but it was very useful! My hospital had a car seat class and MH and I both found it VERY useful. Taught us all about car seat safety and WHY all the rules are what they are. We still reference the things we learned in thar class and R is almost 3.

Foxy I also found the baby tracking apps more stressful than helpful. I used a hair tie to remember which side I last fed on, and I was winging it a good amount. I recommend taking any classes your hospital/birth center offers and the video that goes with Happiest Baby. I’ve also heard really good things about the Wonder Weeks app.

What is everyone's opinion on nursing to sleep? I did this with DD and it was kind of magical because I could ALWAYS get her to sleep at night as she got older. But I think I want to try rocking to sleep this time instead. I would like SO to be able to do bedtime with baby if needed.

sammysam, I nursed to sleep. By 6 months, my baby was biting and distracted while nursing, and bedtime and MOTN were the only times I could actually nurse her (I had to pump otherwise). My supply failed completely by 8 months and we stopped. I only started to work on sleep training after then, and she didn't STTN until after a year. I don't have any regrets with nursing to sleep, even though it made life harder in some ways, and I plan to do it again.

DS2 never nursed to sleep (his preferences), he was a terrible sleeper too. 🤣😭 I plan on just doing what works again, which will probably be nursing to sleep and co sleeping. I got so much more sleep by co sleeping. the only thing I think I’d do differently is let DH learn to soothe and put baby to bed sometimes too (i say this now). both boys were(DS2 still is) huge mama boys and only wanted me at night for a long time. It always defaulted to me bc I have boobs 🤷🏻♀️and it was just so much easier. also...I’m still nursing DS2 so there’s that. 😬

Thanks guys. I'll probably end up doing it again too just because I know it will be easier. But like k I'm going to try to get SO to learn how to sooth if needed (and if we're actually I'm the same house by then!). I BF'd DD until she was almost 4...so it will be interesting to see if this LO ends up liking the boob as much as DD. Glad others nursed to sleep too. It was the one thing that people made me feel really bad about with DD so I'm glad I'll have some support hete:) ETA DD didn't sleep through the night until she was like 3.5. I've just started getting used to sleep again but we bed share and will continue to do this with both DD and baby. Luckily DD sleeps like a rock now.

Nursing to sleep has been one of those things, and I have no regrets. DS1 nursed to sleep until he was about 15 months, and DS2 is still nursing to sleep most of the time at almost 16 months. Are you planning on weaning or tandem nursing? 😬

Are you planning on weaning or tandem nursing? 😬 My plan is to just go with whatever happens. I planned on tandem nursing DS1 and DS2, but after nursing through my entire pregnancy, DS1 refused to latch on and nurse at all after his brother was born. That was complicated to deal with emotionally, especially since DS2 was in the NICU and hadn't successfully nursed yet. We'll see how things go this time. As of right now, I'm open to him self-weaning, weaning with some gentle encouragement, or tandem nursing if things keep working for us. I nursed DS1 for close to 19 months, when I was 4 months pregnant with DS2. I’m pretty sure I just dried up and it also started hurting. I do not have any interest in tandem nursing, but I’m sad about weaning 🙁

I do not have any interest in tandem nursing, but I’m sad about weaning 🙁 Weaning is so bittersweet no matter when it happens. Second trimester seems to be a time when most pregnant nursing moms end up weaning, due to the drop in supply and changes in the milk. How often does your toddler nurse? Mine is still going strong with nursing 6+ times a day. He only nurses once a day, before bed. but that’s only bc thats all I allow 😕. I’ll probably nurse this last baby forever, ha!
