DS was supposed to have a baseball game tonight but the real feel was hovering around 100 and the coach told us to use our best judgment...soooo I took the kiddos to the neighborhood splash pad and we got ice cream on the way home 👍 Much better than chasing DD1 around while DS melts in the hot sun!

We're nearing the end of unpacking, DH and I have also started to put just about all non-essential boxes in the basement and I'll go through them at a later date. I had a lot of anxiety before the move about seeing my mom's things again but it's been more comforting than emotional.
I have had something strange happen and I feel crazy for even admitting this. I have smelled my mom's perfume a few times in our new house, most times in our master closet which has her old jewelry in it. But the other night I was laying in bed and smelled it right up next to the brand new crib I bought for Winnie (our old house was a 2 bed so she was in a PNP). I was telling one of my best friends about it and she and I both believe my mom was here checking in on us. It makes me teary every time I think about it.

inomniaparatus That's very sweet. I'm glad you feel comforted. I think it totally makes sense, wouldn't we all want to check in on our kids?

missd I never had an experience like this in our old house so I've decided to also take it as a sign she's proud of us for uprooting and moving to another state where we can be closer to family (eventually once they move) and provide better experiences for the kids as they grow up

Update: I did get 2 donuts, and 1 for DS. But he's forgotten about it, so once he goes to bed I'll eat that one too.

inomniaparatus I'm glad things have settled down. I agree that your mom was checking in. When I went to NY a couple of weeks ago to help my dad pack up my grandparents house, I put dd on the floor in the mostly empty living room. She was smiling and chatting up a storm, the most she had ever done at that point. I was very close to my grandpa (1st grandkid), dd is name after his mother, and he passed in that house several years ago. I like to think that he was there saying hi to his great-grand kid.
