Both my boys had a mild case of it, which was good. But they both ended up losing tonails and fingernails afterwards. Apparently it happens with HFM and I totally freaked out before I knew that Oh man, I am so glad this did not happen with my kid.

DD had some bad days with sores in her mouth and popsicles were all she would eat. DH got it and had it way worse. His face got them pretty bad. Once the fever is gone that's really the worst of it in terms of discomfort.
Also be prepared that their skin on their hands and feet (and wherever they have scabs) may peel like weeks later. Also their nails may peel off.

Oh we just did this. DS (3) brought home HFM a week after my DD was born. Luckily she and I skipped it, but my H got a really severe case of HFM.
I kept him home from school for two days, and kept him from touching the baby for about a week. Our pedi said he was no longer contagious once his fever was gone and if he had no open sores. His was contained to his face, feet, and hands.
My poor H still has spots on his feet. 3.5 weeks later.

Hello I am a one trick pony because I am trapped in HFM world this week.
Would you call the dr if the rash was pretty close to the eyes? So far it doesn’t look like it’s in the actual eye, but its on both the top and bottom lids, close enough to look painful.

FWIW they told me to call and bring him in if the rash became oozy but didn’t say anything about it close to eyes as something I needed to watch for.

I would call the pediatrician for inconsolable belly pain or spots near eyes.
I don't know if hfm spots can go in/on eyes or internally like chicken pox and some other rashes can but i would want to rule out otger issues with tgat tummy pain

Totally posted and ran today by accident. I forgot my pedi has Saturday hours so I called their regular nurse line and got some advice. So far so good.
In general he seems to be feeling much better. Just praying we can get a few spots to go away by Monday
Thanks for putting up with me!
