We got a very sweet Great Pyrenees in February. Maybe because of the snow then her feet weren't so dirty when she came inside, I don't know. But it's become very apparent that her feet track in a lot of dirt with the coming and going.
How do you manage the mess? What are your tips, tricks, suggestions for keeping the dirt from staining and infiltrating the house?
I feel like I'm sweeping/ mopping/ vacuuming all the time.

It's going to be a daily thing. Some days multiple times daily.

My dog's feet don't get dirty because she is smaller and walks in the lawn, but on rainy days, we have her come into the house onto a mat and we use a towel to wipe her feet off before she's free to roam the house.

Too late. We love her so she stays.
We've got the hair thing mostly under control, it's just the dirt.

I wipe my dog’s feet with a towel before they come in when it’s muddy. I still have to vacuum/sweep/mop daily.

Hard floors in our whole downstairs, and a pass with the swiffer no less than daily, vaccum/actually clean a few times/week. Also towel off when they come in muddy, and have mats by entry points.

I keep a rag by the door and try to wipe down her paws when she comes in. It probably doesn't do much for small amounts of dry dirt but definitely gets off anything larger or wet (mud).

Like other said, have a towel by the door and get her used to you wiping her feet when she comes inside. And get used to cleaning your floors a lot more.

I've seen dog wipes and wasn't sure if that wpuld be effective. A towel, though, is a good idea. We've noticed that she likes to dig a shallow hole and then lay in it, which is probably the biggest reason for so much dirt. But she doesn't dig where there is grass, so maybe some artificial turf will curb that? She's our first dog, so I'm #new. Ls2012, Welcome to dog ownership! lolz. I've heard there are dog shoes to wear for outside, for people that go hiking with their dogs and whatnot. We just keep a towel by the door and wipe whenever there is bad weather. Sometimes I get lazy and just let her run amok and worry about mopping later. Shruggy guy. Also, I'm going to need you to post a pic of your pup, I love Great Pyrenees!!

The area rug in the above photo is so stained with her dirty feet prints, despite multiple cleanings. Definitely getting rid of it and then we'll just have tile and wood to contend with. Sounds like I just need to suck it up and deal with a 2x daily swiffer session, plus toweling her feet.

You are going to be sweeping/mopping/vacuuming all the time with a GP.
A relative had a GP and St. Bernard at the same time. The dogs were let in/out through either the attached garage or the walk-out basement, and all paw-wiping was done there. On extra wet/muddy days, the dogs would be confined to the garage or basement until they fully dried off.

My in laws wipe their Newfoundlands feet.
I noticed your dog's feet look stained- like a pink tint maybe? Is she licking her feet a lot? Is it red in between the toes? I'm wondering if she has allergies and is licking her feet, causing wetness which would cause more dirt to get stuck to her mitts.

OMG I love that dog! My friends have a Great Peyrenees but they call him an OK Peyrenees because he's kind of a PITA (but basically a big friendly polar bear).

We have two young dogs and a big backyard with a lot of dirt and clay. I was killing myself carrying the beasts one at a time upstairs for a bath after every rainstorm. Wiping off their paws never seemed to work very well, and I tried just about everything. I went through a whole pack of “paw wipes” after our Golden tried to dig under the fence.
Now, I let them into the eat-in part of the kitchen, which is closed off with gates. I let them dry off, then I brush them down and let them into the rest of the house. They clean their own paws while they’re in there, so when I let them out, they don’t track anything. All I have to do is vacuum and steam mop a small room!
Obviously, this might not be feasible for you and your really cute fluffy dog. For me, only having to really clean up one dog-designated area has been helpful. I hope you find some solution, because I know it is such a pain.

I haven't noticed her licking obsessively, but she does from time to time. I thought it was maybe the red mulch that we have in spots, but I'll keep an eye on her and give the vet a call if it seems a lot. Thanks for the heads up! Edit: In the 2nd pic, her back legs were just post-surgery to remove her double dews, which is the discoloration there. Poor girl had never had vet care in 4ish years and they'd rams-horned back into her bones.

One of our dogs is dirty all the time. She's disgusting, she rolls in the bark dust, dirt, grass, slugs, whatever. We have a mat outside, then one inside of our dog door. If it's especially rainy I keep two extra towels by the door, one for past the mat and one to towel her off (our boy dog is prissy and never gets dirty.) We keep a dirt devil and our swifter handy. We're neat freaks who are obsessed with our dogs.

Your dog is so cute!
I have a Pyr. She digs when it’s warm, so we have similar issues. We have a groomer clip her paws every other month or so. Cutting that hair back does help.

My dog doesn't dig, so it's really only an issue when it rains, but we keep a towel by the door and wipe his feet when he comes in.
I sweep our hardwood floors daily and get enough hair to build another dog. DH vacuums the rugs in our rooms every weekend and that mostly keeps it under control.

We have two dogs and I have just accepted that I will be cleaning the floors multiple times a day. I hope that once the grass grows in a little better we won’t have as much sand coming in.

I dog sat my cousins' GP last year. We still find his hairs in random places. We have two hounds that roll in dirt and are a mess so we just keep towels by the back door like others have mentioned and then there's the constant sweeping. If they're really muddy (like post rainstorm muddy) we put them in their cages to dry off first, then we wipe them down.

My lab/husky mix does this as well. It’s because it’s cooling for them to lay in freshly dug dirt. Make sure she has plenty of cold water to drink and places to cool down.

It’s only slightly less messy, but those plastic baby pools keep our dogs from digging when it’s hot.
