Cher ILY ETA - I read the OP as though she has 3 flights on one day. That’s a long day from wake up to security to flights to layovers to baggage claim. Hence the umbrella stroller could really come in handy if her kid (just shy of 3) gets exhausted.

Hi there. PP have given you some good advice. I just wanted to add that if any of your connections are short, gate checking the stroller could be an issue. Sometimes they take a while to retrieve gate checked items so you might be delayed if you are rushing to make a connection. Also, I'm in the minority here but I think bringing a stroller really depends on your child. We were never really a stroller family and when I traveled to South East Asia with DS1 (he was 4) a couple of years ago, we hardly used it. He pushed it most of the time and we probably didn't need it. Most families with young children definitely travel with strollers though so I'm in the minority. If your son is FFing, I would recommend getting a 5 point harness seat for your destination. Those can be lighter and less bulky than a convertible seat. We recently purchased the Graco Tranzitions seat for DH's car - it was under $100 and it's also light enough for us to transport if we choose to fly with it. I didn't bring a car seat when I traveled with DS1 because I wanted him to be able to lie down and sleep since we were flying for 22 hours but I've seen a lot of posts where people travel with a car seat domestically. The theory is just to protect the child if there's unexpected turbulence and to have a car seat at their destination. Typically they travel with a lighter travel car seat and get a rack to wheel the car seat on in the airport. Since you will have a car seat waiting for you at your destination, you can probably get away with not traveling with one. Taitai, I'm originally from Singapore so I understand the meaning behind your screen name and I love it!

Yogurt, do you have a budget for the seat? I would go for something that will switch to booster modes too so you can get the max use out of it.

ss265 I’m in the minority with you. That’s why I want to hear flight deets. Depending on the flights/kid, I might Amazon prime a $25 umbrella stroller and avoid bringing one extra thing.

I was thinking this exact thing too. I would shove a carrier in the carryon bag in case I needed to hoof it across an airport in s hurry but otherwise, they can walk. One less thing for me to lug around.

I don’t know if this was mentioned but when we gate checked our double, we used a cheap bag from Amazon to cover it. It won’t protect it from a break but it kept it clean.

We’re going to Singapore this summer. Everything works and is so clean there - excited for sidewalks!!! We will not be bringing a stroller on our flight because it’s such a quick trip - DS1 will walk and I’ll baby wear DS2. I love that in Singapore all the malls and hotels have strollers available to borrow for free if you need them. Have you read Crazy Rich Asians??

Is your flight direct or do you have 3 flights in a row? I have a personal belief that most people make flying with kids much harder than it has to be. The less stuff you can shlep, the better. A lot of it is kid/flight/layover-dependent.If I can avoid bringing a stroller or car seat, I do. I try to keep my carry-on limited to an iPad, snacks and a change of clothes. Short flight to LA, flight to texas, flight to florida. Layovers are up to 3 hours.

Welp, my mom went ahead and ordered a cosco one sometime overnight. Its one that is FF for up to 50 lbs and was only $59, so if it doesnt last forever I guess thats fine.

We used it for a while. And the price is right so it’s no biggie when they outgrow.

So jealous you have the babyzen yoyo- I didn’t even know something like this existed until I saw a family collapse it at the airport in Tokyo last month. I was like, what is this black magic. It was amazing.

Not sure if anyone mentioned this, but when you get to your gate you’ll need to go up to the ticket counter first thing to get your stroller a tag. Otherwise they’ll turn you around when your boarding to do it.

Part of the reason I prefer the US is that I'm not really a fan of the materialism in Singapore culture and that book is all about it. Plus, all the Singlish and colloquialisms threw me off. I might try it again this summer.

Thank you all for these reccommendations and advice. I think I might prime a stroller to her house...and try to wear her. She hasnt lwt me wear her in a year, but she hates crowds so she might comply.
Eta, she doesn't like the stroller and then she wants to push it and it becomes annoying.
Will buy the trunki and airplane book and soft headphones. I wish there was a soft kind that was cordless

T&Ps to your back. Hopefully she’ll want to walk most of the time anyways! Just don’t underestimate the power of containment/snack eating in an umbrella stroller (especially during long TSA lines...just sayin’).

DS1 has the fire engine one and we just yell back at him - “keep holding on to the blue lights!” Kid doesn’t move and enjoys his ride.

I literally JUST did this a week ago. -I sent the Safety1st Guide 65 from Walmart to their house since it's up to 65 lbs. My son is only 2 and he'll be able to use it at their house until he's like 8. -I did not bring a car seat on the plane, nor did I have any type of harness. I figured he would be most comfy if he could lie down and put his head on my lap, which he did and he slept great! -I did have the stroller the whole time in the airport because he's a RUNNER. I needed him strapped in while we stood in security line and stuff like that so he wouldn't run away. I wheeled him all the way down the jet bridge then they took it for a gate check right at the airplane door. When we got off, it was delivered back to us right at the same spot. It went to smoothly!

It was amazing. It is hands down my favourite baby purchase from DD. It's the stroller that everyone has in Paris now, but was pretty new 3 years ago. I LOVE IT!! Also, despite it looking a bit fragile, it has held up to daily use on cobblestones for years for me. SaveSave

That looks pretty cool! There's also this one, for older kids (2+) with a higher weight limit, that I saw recommended on Lucie's List.

Last thing you need is to be standing there trying to put your shoes back on, while they are searching your bag, with your kid sprinting away lol

I hate the materialism and showmanship In Southeast Asia...it’s very much a “if you have money, flaunt it” kind of culture, which I’m not used to. I also despise the “haves and have nots” situation in the country where I live, so the book kind of saddened me...just because there are so many wonderful, hard working people living in poverty here...and yet we are glamorizing Astrid spending millions on couture fashion in Paris each season. Hmmmmm. However, I found the book to be funny as well. The author definitely enjoys taking shots at the characters with his snarky asides, which I appreciated. The main protagonists are also likeable. I’ll probably go see the movie and see how that is.
