Because I like sharing my dramatic story.
I had an induction scheduled for 5/11 at 6:30am. Owen had other plans.
Went to bed around 10, but didn’t fall asleep until midnight because Owen was kicking nonstop. Woke up a little after 1 with a horrible cramping feeling, and I had to pee a lot. Tried to decide if it was just some sort of cramp or a contraction. About 30 seconds after the first ended, another came. Again a STRONG urge to pee and/or poop. I was thinking contraction already, but it seemed so constant that I was unsure. I got up to use the bathroom. Had to stand above the toilet by the time I made it there as a third contraction hit. “WTF?!” I pee and make it back to my bed and grab my phone to start timing. I go back into the bathroom. I start squatting/bouncing during. I have 3-4 more that are just on top of each other. I go to the bedroom, start to say something to MH (who has happened to already be awake), but another hits that is so bad that a strange moan sound is all that comes out. After it ends, I tell him I am in labor and they’re 2 minutes apart (though that was generous at that point). He jumps up and wants to immediately leave. I don’t even pack anything else and start trying to get dressed. It was around 1:45 that he got Lexi up and told me we could go. I instructed him to just get her in the car and that I was coming. I had two before I could make it to the garage that stopped me in my tracks. TONS of pressure. I was legitimately worried we may have a car baby. Just as i stepped through the garage door (thank god), my water broke spectacularly. At first it was just a trickle and I thought maybe I had peed. Then a contraction hit and a huge GUSH came out of me and splashed all over the floor. It was like the movies. MH was finishing up getting Lexi in the car seat. I told him to run and get a trash bag and a towel for the seat of the car. Started to feel like I may puke. It was 1:50. I told MH to not even dare stop at redlights. We left.
It takes about 15 minutes to drive to the hospital. Contractions were BAD. I was trying not to cry out or anything bc i didn’t want to scare Lexi so I beat on the door of the car a lot instead and focused on counting breaths. MH stopped right at the ER doors and ran in to the receptionist for help. I think he really thought it was time to push. I was worried it was too. They met me at the car with a wheelchair and immediately rushed me to my L&D room that had been booked for me for my induction. I was glad to not have to fuck around with triage. I immediately told the nurse I wanted an epidural. I was afraid I may already be out of time. She said she would call and let the anesthesiologist know, but that they had to run labs and check me first. She put the monitors on and I was checked. I was at a 6. Contractions were 1 minute apart and 35-40 seconds of excruciating pain. I’m not sure how long I had to wait for the epidural. It felt like a lifetime. I got checked again right before I got it and I was at an 8/9. I didn’t even know if it would have time to set in. As soon as she was done, I was complete, and it was time to push. So I did a couple pushes waiting for the epi to kick in. She didn’t set up a drip because we didn’t assume it would take long. Wrong.
Owen was sunny side up. I pushed for 2ish hours. He still never turned completely. After about an hour and a half the epi began to fade quickly off. It sucked. Only good thing was that my pushes were much more effective. I only had about 3 contractions completely unnumbed before he was out. 4:45am. He came fast and furious (until the pushing part!). We are over the moon in love with him. Hoping to be discharged in a little bit.
