Thanks! I am so nervous about the interview. I stink at interviews. The only good thing about this one is that it is over the phone and not face to face so they won't be able to see my fear...lol.

So we've been seeing houses periodically but with this move, we're narrowed down to just a few areas based on school districts. We are really trying to up our game with the district so if we can (which we can & will), we're moving to higher rated districts. The two towns I would want to get into are in the top 25 in the entire state but the problem we're running into are the lack of homes a)in our price range & b)if they are in our range, they go super fast. Since we have our house to sell, we're not really in a good scenario of putting in an offer contingent on selling our house. I'm sure sellers will receive better offers. So it sucks. We have been thinking we're not opposed to just listing our house when we get it ready (hopefully within a month) & if it sells without us finding a house, we'll temporarily rent until a house comes up where we want to be vs buying a house just to buy one especially since we want to move to specific areas only. There is a third best option that is a little farther down the ratings list of school but still within the top 100 of the state & is the 3rd best in our county so still a pretty good option but still the real estate market is pretty hot right now & homes are flying. I'm a little stressed because we have more wants/needs this time around.

A few years back I was looking up stuff in our district and stumbled upon parent reviews of the schools. Personally, I think those can be a more telling picture than just the ratings. I don't know about where you are, but here the ratings are based on standardized testing that happens several times a year for each grade from 3 and up. I think those tests only tell part of the picture and it frustrates me to think that is what drives these school ratings. I'd rather know what other people think of the teachers at the school and how their interactions with the administrators of the school have gone. Of course like reviews of anything, one person's experience may not be the experience of everyone. But it can give you an idea of what you might be getting into.

misspeansmama it's similar here with testing. Each school/district has a "report card" with several performance indexes & I'm assuming they get majority of this info from testing. The top 3 areas we like are pretty much known around here for being great districts just by word of mouth. The reviews online coincide. It's probably why houses go fast. I don't know if this is regional because I've never heard of such a thing before moving to this state but we have a thing called "open enrollment" where if you don't live within district limits you can apply to open enroll & just drive your kid to the school. Two of the areas we're looking at are the only ones in the our county that don't because they wouldn't be able to accommodate it because of how well of a reputation they have. It's srs bsns. lol

Geez I saw all the other 1st graders walking out today with potted plants as Mother's Day gifts. DS was empty handed. When we got home I saw in his folder just a picture with his hand print that's a flower. I mean, it's cute but just seeing what all the other teachers did is a big womp womp womp. We have a real winner this year.

NamasteBirches, DD's class didn't do anything too fancy. They did a fill in the blank poem about mom and colored a cut out MOM card. The poem was on a flower shaped cutout, which they colored and the teacher laminated. The things DD said to fill in the blanks were hilarious in some cases. Apparently she thinks I am 70 and my favorite thing to do is grocery shop! LOL!
