PLEASE tell me you guys just saw Giuliani on This Week with George Stephanopoulos. My H was watching and actually rewound it and made me watch because it is just mind-bogglingly BAD. Even Michael Avenatti, who was on right after, stopped George to ask "What did I just watch? Am I getting punked?" It's... something. Like, he kept harping on Stormy being on SNL, kept saying he doesn't know the facts, kept trying to claim it's not a campaign expense, and yes, even managed to work Hillary into it by the end. ^ Actual representation of what I was thinking while watching that interview.

fatpony - my jaw was on the floor when he kept saying $130k isn't a lot of money for something like that.

I can’t believe that he is actually a lawyer. And that anyone would hire him.

I think my next non-fiction read may be Jon Meacham’s The Soul of America. I enjoyed him on MTP and I’d really like more historical perspective on what is happening with the Presidency in the US right now, beyond just the similarities to Watergate.

Oh! Related to Boy Scouts, a family member decided to register her kids (sons and daughters) and was told that her local pack/troop voted to not allow girls, so it looks like it's similar to the position the BSA took on gay members and leaders: officially, the national organization says anyone, but they are leaving it up to each pack/troop to make their own decision and most likely won't interfere.
Basically, this is a PR move and membership drive, not about equality.

This is what fascism looks like: Laura Rozen confirmed that it’s the same group that Weinstein hired. (Or at least they used the same fake name.)

Some thoughts on the pre-memorializing of John McCain . IMO going out of your way to talk shit on social media about a dying man is toxic. It is possible to just not do a take on what a POS you think someone is for a couple of months. Unless you’re a Twitter personality looking for attention I guess.

So there’s more out there re: Haspel and torture based on that article? I can’t tell.

I agree that you don't need to go out of your way, but at the same time, I see not just Republicans talking about what a champion for Americans he is/was. He fought for his country and survived capture and that is impressive, but ever since he hitched his wagon to that Tea Party nutbag, Palin, he's talked about order and working together and then supported or voted on bills that hurt the most vulnerable Americans. The right is going to eulogize him and make him seem damn near perfect. The left needs to remember what he really did. Go high and don't trash him, but don't help the right rewite his history. Offer sympathy for his plight and to his family, but don't turn him into a virtuous paragon.

His vote against ACA repeal is one of the few humane votes I've seen from him in recent years outside of anything related to torture.

The people in that article all know him. It's fairly normal for people to eulogize their dead friends/family/colleagues in glowing terms and to honor their life's work when their life comes to a close. I find it odd that we can't even allow people to do that for the people in their lives without saying "actually you're wrong, he is/was a horrible person" while they are doing it. Like I'm fairly certain that Obama and Biden are pretty clear-eyed on McCain's record and could articulate what was problematic with Palin and the rest. They have to say that right now to prevent history from being whitewashed? I don't buy that at all.

Did anyone see SNL last night? I hear Stormy made an appearance! 😂 We are watching now. Trying to pick my jaw up off the floor. Our SNL was a repeat due to the Stanley cup 😒
