The weather here is so nice! MH is grilling sausages and asparagus on the deck and I really want to be out there with him, glass of wine in hand, but I’m stuck in the family room watching Wild Kratts with DS2 because evidently it is the thing he most desires in the world. So here I sit, discussing lemurs with my four year old.

My grad virology class confirms that bats rarely are carriers. They have gotten bad stigma. CDC also confirms that most bats do not have rabies www.cdc.gov/rabies/bats/index.html Either way, I will not be touching any bats and will continue to hyperventilate at the sight of one in my immediate space. Ah come on, they're about as harmless as black bears. They just need some aggressive cuddles and they'll come around.

My kid went to bed 40 minutes early. Praise be to Saturday! OMG jealous! You are much more organized than I am, we just got home from the pool half an hour ago, and the kids haven’t even been fed yet. At this rate they won’t be in bed until 9, which I hate to admit is pretty common. Fine for the 8.5 year old, not so much for the 4 year old.

Actually bats are the animal most likely to carry rabies. That doesn't mean they all do, but it's a serious concern if people are handling a bat. 🙁 I could have sworn the exterminator told us that bats rarely carry rabies. But their poop is highly dangerous. Sure, most bats don't have rabies, but they are still the species most likely to carry rabies.

Yeah ever since we had the bat infestation (yay slate roof and 2 neighbors replacing their roofs sending all of their bats to our house) in our old house I cannot handle being around them. At all. I feel kinda bad because when we replaced our roof they all went to another neighbor’s house. They said we had hundreds though. The neighbor across the street recorded it when they removed the slate and it just looked like a giant dark cloud above the house.

Oh well maybe I stand corrected. Some sources say raccoons are more likely
In any event please don't hug a bat.

We did an easy dinner and he was so tired he didn’t eat much. So, off to bed he went. Full disclosure: he could have used a nap today but we kept him busy.

I forgot to nurse my kid at bedtime. How does this happen?? 😮😒😞😬 Maybe you're the "forgets to eat" type? I am so not that type. I eat breakfast before I go out to brunch. I did feed him dinner. He ate a decent amount so hopefully he won’t be hungry. He usually doesn’t nurse a lot because it’s right after dinner but I’ve just never skipped it before. I don’t know what’s wrong with me tonight.

OMFG. No. Have you seen the discovery videos of the stuff that lives on bat guano? Like super roaches that eat a bat in minutes. *Shudder*

That summer 2 houses on our street replaced their roofs. The whole town was pretty well over populated with bats. We had our roof removed, bats left, the exterminator crew cleaned up the guano and sanitized everything, and then the new roof put on so they couldn’t get back in.

I really want him, but it will end my foster career since H is strongly in the 2 MAX club (which I am pretty solid on too). I just think that if I can get him adopted, I can help more pups. I met a woman today whose had 13 fosters. My hero!

One child down, the other one had a 2.5 hour nap (WTF to our usual 30-45!?!) and is hacking up a lung.
I have cooking shows on and he’s running around, hopefully he’s down soon. I would love so much to be asleep by 9. I don’t have SO to help tonight and I am really hoping we’re over the worst of it, because I’m tired.

Last summer, when we were visiting my ILs, FIL came in one evening complaining that something bit him and had 2 tiny puncture wounds that almost immediately closed up. We all said that it looked like a bat and insisted he go get started with rabies vaccines the next day. He definitely would not have gone if we weren’t there, and he was so grumpy about it, but the doctor felt sure it was a bat bite and told him it was a good thing he came in. I’m now a little paranoid about bats.

You have many, many, many years to complete that goal eventually, even if it isn’t now.

We will be gone for the day, so I’m dropping him off and just seeing what happens.
