If you're working and planning on returning, how long do you plan on being out? I know we've talked about this throughout random threads, but wanted to make a poll since we're all getting pretty close to the end. And stay out of here Canadians and other countries with paid leave! Just kidding, I like to know where other countries stand.

I teach preschool part time and we are closed for the summer so it works out well. I will go back at the end of Aug. we do have a one day a week program during the summer so I might start doing that just to get into the groove a little before school year starts

I’ll take 12 weeks off plus 2 @50% pay that NY allows and then tack on 4 weeks vacation after that.

34 weeks is the standard for twins here (12 before and 22 after). I won’t be using all of the time after. It’s very common for doctors to write you out of work earlier (mine offered starting at 20 weeks before, but I waited until 12 before to go on leave).

I'll be taking minimum 8 weeks. I get one week paid from work and 8 weeks STD. There is a 15 day waiting period where the week paid is included that I can use PTO, too. I will plan on taking at least 8 weeks but no more than 12 weeks.

I work for a financial corporate firm so i realize this is really good leave for the US. 16 weeks total. 8 weeks short term disability and then 8 weeks paid leave. All 100% paid.

Canadian law is 15 weeks of purely maternity leave, paid at 55% of your insurable earnings. You can take it up to 12 weeks early, but I'm hoping to work up to about 4 weeks before my C. After that, parental leave kicks in, which mom or dad can take, separate or together. You can choose standard, which is 35 weeks at 55%, or they just introduced extended, which is 61 weeks at 33%. If we had more money stashed aside, I'd be really tempted to take the extended, but since we don't I'm just going to take the standard. H can take time off pretty much whenever he needs (3 1/2 weeks paid) so he's not going to be using any of it. That means that, if I want, I can be off until May next year. I'm not sure if I'll take the entire time, or if I'll go back to work part time before that. Whatever I work comes off dollar for dollar from my benefits, but if I get bored at home I may go back a day or two a week before my time is up.

I picked SS. I'll technically be "off" for 4 months, but that's because I'm a teacher. I'll be out for about 7-8 weeks at the end of the school year depending on when I deliver (6 paid through my accrued sick time for vaginal delivery, the rest unpaid). I typically teach summer school, but I just won't be applying this year and will take those two months at home unpaid.

I’m taking 10-12, depending on when she’s born. I’m in a wedding in July so I’d like to fit that into my leave if I can.
I have 3 weeks PTO I’ve saved up, and I get 4 weeks STD at 60% Pay. The rest is unpaid, and I pay work to keep my benefits.

I'm filling out my FMLA paperwork right now. I can break things up and get a partial paycheck for 6 weeks, but I really want to take at least 8. I'll have to pay OOP for benefits the last two weeks.

I picked SS because timing worked out well for me plus new teacher union contract. I'm now allowed to split my 60 days of leave over summer. I'll be out from either when she's born or a couple days before if I have my RCS. There are only 24 days of the school year after that. Then we have summer and I'm taking off until October. So she'll be 4.5 months old when I go back.

I’m mobile so I can’t vote, but I’ll be doing a combination of paid leave from work, long service leave entitlements and government benefits. It should get me through to February so I’ll have 9 months off. Timing my return to work with the start of the school year here so I can get a spot at daycare easier.

I am going on intermittent leave next week, will do that until the birth. That can be up to ~50% paid by the state, if more I compensate with my sick days. It’s through short term disability. Then I will have 6-8 weeks paid ~50% (will compensate to 100% with my sick days), also STD and another 6 weeks paid ~50% (will compensate to 100% with my vacation days), with family leave/baby bonding.
Total that will be probably a bit more than 4 months, paid partly by my PTO accrued.

I get 18 weeks, 6 paid at 50% (would be 100 if I had been at my company longer) and the rest unpaid, but I can use all my accrued sick and vacation time for about another 4 weeks paid. It's not going to be great financially, but it's our last kid, so I want to do it.
H is taking a month off at first using sick time and then another 2 months after I go back to work, so the kid won't have to go to daycare until about 6 months.

I am doing 8 full weeks, then 4-6 weeks where I will work two days a week. My mom will watch DS and DD those two days per week so she will not start daycare until she is 12 weeks old.

I'm taking 2 weeks PTO before my due date. My last day at work is May 4th. If baby takes longer than 2 weeks to show up, then the rest of my "before baby" time will be unpaid. Although, I'm under the impression my doctor won't be letting me go past my due date because of my history with Pre-E last time. Then the full 12 weeks (14 weeks if I end up with a c-section) covered by state disability and paid family leave after baby. I think the disability & PFL work out to be 67% of my income or something like that.
Obviously if baby shows up early then my plan will change and it will just be the 12-14 weeks.

my company offers 12 weeks paid at 100%, plus my state offers an additional 6-8 weeks (depending on what type of birth) which I will be taking. That part would be unpaid, but I can use sick/vacation to cover it. I have 3 weeks of sick leave banked and I will likely use all of that, and probably 1-2 weeks of vacation, and then take the additional 1-3 weeks depending on c-section or not, unpaid. After that (max of 18-20 weeks), I can go back part-time at 50% until the baby is 6 months old, which I will try to do, as H will be starting his 12 weeks of paid leave when I go back (we are very fortunate that both of the companies we work at are very generous). I don't think I will be very successful working 50%, so I will probably only do that for 1 or 2 pay periods before going back 100%. My brother is also getting married in October so I'm hoping (assuming she comes on time), I can flex my 50% hours to not have to use vacation for his wedding.

I’ll be taking the full 16 weeks of leave I’m entitled to. It’s unpaid but I have 6 weeks of STD & I will be using my my sick/vacation/personal time so I should be close to being paid the entire time I’m off.

Ill be talking 12 weeks. STD will cover 6-8 weeks (depending on delivery type) at about 60% but has a 2 week waiting period. I’ll have about 6 weeks PTO that I’ll use as well. (I’ll have to pay work to keep my benefits though). DH is a teacher so he’ll be home with us all summer which will be nice.

I voted 8 weeks even though I'm a little bit of SS. Mine won't be considered maternity leave, it's FMLA for the c section since I'm a surrogate. My work would give me additional time for maternity leave, but I haven't even checked out what it is since no more babies for me.
My FMLA paperwork is being filled out, I'm expecting confused questions from benefits when I submit it 😂

Oh man the maternity leave discussions always give me the sads. I planned on 12 (I fudged it to 13 weeks because it’s all unpaid anyway) with the start date being my due date. Since I’ll be induced at 37 weeks max, I end up getting 16 weeks off because of that. 6 weeks is at 60% pay with STD and the rest is unpaid/PTO. I don’t have more than 6 weeks PTO saved up so about a month will be unpaid which is scary but we’ll be okay. I’m the primary earner in our house.

Oh man the maternity leave discussions always give me the sads. Me too. For most of the same reasons. I keep trying to come up with a way to extend, but it just isn't happening.

So my dr approved me to go out of work 1 week prior to my c/s. Paperwork was sent to insurance but insurance can’t technically approve it until i call to say my last day worked/first day absent. They said it would be approved but just can’t write it officially until then. So I’m hoping it all goes through just fine so i don’t call to say I stopped working then they are like, oh nope not approved and I have to use pto.

I finally requested the information for my sick leave bank yesterday. I have to go 9 days unpaid before it will kick in. Luckily(?) I'm already well below the required sick time left so I won't be using any of that; I literally have 5 minutes left. So I'll be paid for 3 weeks of my leave instead of 5 but still get STD for the full 6 that they'll pay out.

I texted my boss today to let her know that I am moving up my last day before leave. I was going to talk to her yesterday but they were having an anniversary party for her and it got crazy. Anyways, I now officially have only 2 1/2 weeks of work left before my leave starts O.O
