I don't think she'll wear a mermaid gown for the wedding. She eschews anything that shows off her figure or fits properly, and that would be way more scandalous than the persona she's trying to create. ETA: I just realized I pulled out an SAT word without thinking about it... I'm not sure if I'm proud or embarrassed. I have to proctor the SAT tomorrow. It's such a long boring day! I wish I could eschew that...

ArielMermaid, it's a good way to handle the cheeto man and preserve political relations in general, but it sucks because the bromance between Harry and Obama is so strong.

I just saw that, I am disappointed. Harry seems to be very good friends with them. It's quite obvious every time they are together.

Did anyone else see this article. The Queen made a quip about Trump after she was interrupted by a loud and annoying noise - Business Insider apple.news/AkcX1efIYQC2515Z7CBacmw

Yes, love the bromance.
But I'm selfish enough to admit I also wanted Obama to go just to rub it in Trump's face that no one likes him.
So, there's also that.

I hate that they had to be put into that position. It's such playground drama.

I hate that they had to be put into that position. It's such playground drama. I hate that they had to be put in to that position but I *love* that they handled it with grace. I know this isn't the politics board (and I steer clear of political debates here in general), but I'm sure there was a lot of input at multiple levels... just imagine if our president handled major issues with just an ounce of the finesse and thought that they've put into managing a wedding guest list.

The Obama’s were not invited to Will and Kate’s wedding so there is no precedent of inviting sitting US Presidents. However, this wedding will be much smaller and on the whole a lot less important, Harry won’t ever be king. I am surprised they weren’t invited because Harry and Obama seem like friends but must be not wedding invite friends.

Oh yes, absolutely! Wedding lists are hard enough for us normal people, I can't imagine doing it at an international level and political level. Although I'm hoping it's all just a rouse and the Obamas show up quietly at the private reception. 😈

lupincat, that would be awesome. "Well, we said we weren't inviting them to the wedding. We didn't say anything about the reception..."

I don't know if they would have even without Trump. When your are part of the royal family you don't want to set a tone where you hurt other political leaders/countries for any future plans.

That could be true but I'm guessing that they otherwise would have used the younger never going to King brother card if someone else was currently president. Like I don't think George Bush would have made a big deal of it. But we'll never know. Either way I love that Harry is friends with the Obamas.

I mean even the speculation of why they didn't invite the Obamas makes Trump look like a whiny toddler, so I'm still calling it a win.

Also, for their sake, I’m glad they had the luxury of making that decision. I’m sure William and Kate couldn’t have made a similar decision and I’m not sure but would imagine if Harry were still #3 in the line of succession then his wedding might have to be more formal in terms of including heads of state. And while I’d like to see the Obamas at the wedding, realistically they’ll have a better visit if it’s separate from the wedding. They’d probably have only the tiniest of interaction at that but now we will probably get several photos of the visit 😊

I also feel like there are times that, aside from Trump, sitting Presidents have “allowed” former Presidents to play a role in certain situations. Like how Jimmy Carter has gone to foreign countries and negotiated (or tried to negotiate) release of prisoners. I wouldn’t mind seeing W at a royal wedding if we got to see more of his spectacular dance moves from upthread 😂

OMG could you just imagine getting Will, Harry, Bush, Obama, and Trudeau all together doing amazingly wonky dances??? I would die happy.
Kate dancing along would be questionable. I don't think Meghan would get into the spirit of a quirky dance.

I don’t think the Obamas and Harry are that close. They’ve done some events together, but Harry and the Obamas both exude a lot of warmth and charm in general, so I think when they’re doing events it seems they are really close because of that energy.

Oh thank you. I kept seeing all the closeness talk and thought I was crazy. I was going to ask if they had been seen together much outside of events they did together.

Well both Barack and Michelle Obama call Harry a friend, which is good enough for me. This article shows some of the things they've done together and while they were often public events some of the things like going to Michelle Obama's old school or watching a basketball game with former president Obama probably wouldn't have happened if they didn't really like each other. www.mindfood.com/article/inside-barack-obama-prince-harrys-friendship/

But no I also don't think they're best buddies just close enough that they would have been invited to the wedding in a different political climate.

William was out at a game last night. His team, Aston Villa, won. He got to visit the players after the game. Harry is doing things today. Here he is at the Walk of America launch.
