We got 4 baby chicks today! 2 barred rock and 2 either ameraucana or araucana. I'm not sure which one they are? Keeping my dogs away from them has been fun.

wildhoney, I don't know how your store sells them, but mine has Araucana- Ameracauna hybrids, which are really Easter Eggers since they aren't a pure bred. Not that it's super important for us small backyard chicken owners, but I got a whole history of the breeds from a chicken blogger when I used one of the pure bred names for my girls.

bonzo I read this too. I was curious so I just called The IFA where we bought them to see what ours are. She said Araucanas are really rare and that Ameracauna and Easter Eggers are basically the same thing?

All Easter Eggers will have some Ameracauna or Araucana in their lineage. It seems like the people who show chickens are very particular about lineages, but farm stores like Murdochs or Tractor Supply are a little looser with the names. I think they're a fun breed to have, whatever you call them! I love getting our pale teal and olive green eggs from Ida and Izzy!

I’m just gonna tuck this here since there’s not exactly a cow thread. 😂😂 Baby Henry is getting so big!! And Miss Millie is starting to fill back out again. It’s normal for them to be bony and really underweight immediately after birth so I’m happy to see her body condition score seems to be bouncing back pretty nicely.

Our chicks are getting big too! I need to get a pic of them this week! They’ve really been venturing away from the heat lamp so I’m wondering how much more we will really need it. When I went to check on them tonight there were two perched on top of their feed trough (not the big water trough we have them in!) just hanging out! I think I might go bring in a scoop or two of manure for them this week to scratch through and pick out any bugs.
