Hi all,
I know I live blogged on GD but I wanted to tell you guys my actual birth story and give you a bit of an update on my baby B. I mean it’s 2 am, I’m pumping and why not.
We went to my growth ultrasound on Monday. We took DS out of child care for March so we thought we’d bring him thinking all would be fine at this point, since everything has been to that point. I went to work in the morning - it was my last week and I had a ton to do. My appt was at 1 and I didn’t even eat lunch I was so busy. I planned on eating it when I got back...
Fast forward to the u/s and I could tell things were different. When the tech left, I told SO, that the drs weren’t going to like it and that we’d have to come back for another u/s. When we met with the dr and she started recapping the whole pregnancy, I knew things were worse than I thought. She said he had only grown about a pound in the last 4 weeks and his blood flow was showing signs that he was shunting blood to his brain and tummy, indicating that he was really working hard at getting what he needed from the placenta. She said it did a great job of getting me to 36 weeks but it was done and it was time. I started to cry so SO took DS out of the room. The dr called my dr who said to come to L&D and they’d assess me and we’d make a plan.
So we got everything together. SO wasnt going to pack a bag because he was so convinced they’d schedule us for an induction later in the week. Denial was strong. We took DS with us and called my parents. And yep. When we got there around 4pm, still in shock, they were like, oh yeah we aren’t going to send you home, we have a room let’s go. My cervix was closed but soft.
I got the Foley inserted at 6pm, said goodbye to DS and then we went to eat. My cathether fell out around 10pm and I started contracting a bit on my own so they didn’t hook me up to anything. They broke my water at 230 and contractions started a bit harder. But I was still only at like 4cm. I held off on the epidural until about 6 and then I just wanted it. I told the anesthesiologist that it fell out last time so she taped me up real good ha.
I slept for a bit and at 8 they came in to check me. Baby’s hb was starting to dip and stay down on contractions so they called the dr. She checked me at 820 and I was 5cm and baby’s head was high. She decided to refill some water and almost immediately I felt like my ass was exploding. Serious pressure. They checked again and baby was right there. Then it was a flurry of activity and me yelling for them to check if the epidural was still in. It was.
And then my ass exploded and after about 4 pushes, my baby was out. He was born at 854 so it was the most intense 34 mins of my life. I had some inner tears - probably from the speed in which he decided he was coming out. Recovery has been a million times better than with DS. My 5lber was much easier than my 9lber on my lady bits. Imagine that.
