pinkcat with my first we started a routine around 6 weeks. Since we already have one in place this time we follow that.

1. How old is LO? 5 weeks.
2. What time is bed time? Whatever time he falls asleep? I change him into his swaddle around 7pm, and we do a dream feed between 10:30-11pm, about the time we go to bed. No actual bed time. He just nurses to sleep throughout the day.
3. How many wake ups and what times (on average)? Lately, he's been going 5-6 hour stretches and once he stirs I pop my boob in his mouth and go back to sleep.
4. What is your least fav time to wake up and why? I don't have one. I go back to sleep after I relatch him, unless he poops at night, then I quickly change him and nurse back to sleep.
5. If you have more than one LO, how long did it take your other(S) to STTN? If by STTN that means 5-6 hours for babies, it varied depending on the particular challenges of each baby. Dd1 had severe GERD and was on two different medications. She vomited tons and nursed constantly to make up the difference for several months. Not until 6-7 months she started spitting up less did she start sleeping 5-6 hours, and then by 8 months she was sleeping 8-9+. She was weaned off meds by then. Dd2 didn't sleep more than 1.5-2 hour stretches until 13 months. It was like a switch was flipped and then suddenly sleeping 7-8 hours. She was sensory sensitive and very high needs. She was also medicated for GERD. (and is on the spectrum, things I suspected when she was a young toddler) Ds2 was sleeping 5-6 hour stretches by 4-5 weeks, and 7-8 by a 5-6 months. Also did dream feed late evening. I EP'd day feedings and nursed at night/early morning until 5 months, and then combo fed and nursed. Dd3 started sleeping 5-6 hour stretches at 4 weeks and that stopped when the GERD worsened around 8 weeks. Then she nursed a few times a night? Again, if they stirred, I just relatched and went back to sleep. Only on a handful of occasions did either of us have to get up and walk/rock/shush with her when her reflux was acting up.
6. Is your LO in your room? What are they sleeping on? In bed with me, side-lying when nursing or in the snuggle me or baby bed mattress next to me.
7. Anything positive to say about your LO's sleep/bedtime routine? No complaints. Just follow his lead and do what's always worked for us.
8. Does your SO help with any MOTN tasks? Since I nurse and babe is pretty chill/content at this point, there isn't much for H to do, but should his reflux get to the point where he's more irritable at night, H has no problem getting up to alternate consoling Teddy. He did the same with dd3.

Bumping this but I’m really just posting to get my thoughts out there. I probably should just use the notes section on my phone. Ramble!
I read through. Seem like a lot of babies wake around 2 and 5/6 which is what we are dealing with lately. My prob is she doesn’t go down until 11 and her wake ups are minimum 1 hour.
I sleep for 3 hours, up for about 1.5 hours, sleep for 1.5-2.5 hours.
To me this is absolutely the worst. I know I’m unreasonable but reading through makes me think I’m extra extra unreasonable because people seem to be managing on similar sleep and accepting it.
Going to start getting her in her crib earlier tonight to grab more sleep in that first stretch.

What’s people’s average wake up duration? It varies. Sometimes he eats for 20 minutes and passes back out (ideal) and sometimes he is up fussing for 2-3 hours. I think it depends on whether he’s gassy or eats too much. I know they say breastfed babies can’t overeat, but when he reaches that half-asleep comfort sucking stage if I don’t unlatch him he will be up flailing around, uncomfortable, for ages. I’m working on getting him more comfortable with a pacifier but he’s not always interested.

What’s people’s average wake up duration? On a really good night 20-30 minutes, but generally 45-60. I am dealing with the lack of sleep by napping at least once a day while she sleeps (even if it means she sleeps on me). I function better by not going to bed until after her midnight-ish feeding then I'm usually only waking up once around 5-ish and back to bed for a few more hours, but I also tend to be a night owl.

What’s people’s average wake up duration? 10-15 min. I just drag her over to me, she eats from 1 side and generally falls asleep doing so. Then I drag her back over to the cosleeper or her spot on my bed

LO is almost 4 weeks- at what age should I start a true bedtime routine? Right now I go upstairs alone around 8 to get a few hours of sleep before DH and DS come to bed around 11. Those few hours are usually the best sleep I get of the night so I am hesitant to bring DS up to bed then. Is there a certain time or a way to tell when baby is ready for a more regular "routine" at bedtime and when they need to start going to bed earlier? I am by far not a sleep expert so take my advice while keeping in mind that I am winging it. Lol When he started getting fussy and overtired at an earlier time, that’s when I figured he wanted to sleep earlier. So instead of napping at 7 or 8 ish, I would feed him, swaddle him and then put him to sleep if he wasn’t already. After he is asleep in his crib, I come back downstairs to spend time with MH. pinkcat ditto to all this. Around 5-6weeks she started to not sleep as well on me downstairs while we were hanging out watching tv. She would wake up and fuss and try to sleep. So I took that as my cue to bring her upstairs. So now if it’s around 7-8, I take her right upstairs to change her, put her in her sleep sack, and nurse her in bed with the lights off and sound machine on

Our wake ups are long but I can't complain with only 2 wake ups at 5 weeks old. I'd say minimum 1 hour (this has happened about twice), but usually 1.5 hours and rarely 2 hours. Nothing major is happening, just nursing for a long time then multiple diaper changes plus keeping her upright for awhile after feeding to reduce spit up...

Lately her wake ups involve 15 minutes of nursing, then I hold her for another 10 to make sure she’s asleep before putting her back down.

Normally 20-30 minutes. On a bad night it would be 45-60 minutes.
Thankfully there are very few diaper changes in the middle of the night. I don’t know the last time he had a dirty diaper at night which is great.

I also have a hard time falling back to sleep after a wake up so a lot of her wake ups (usually every 2-3 hours) end up running together since I barely got back to sleep before the next one.

When do babies start on the 2-3-4 schedule? I am not familiar with that schedule - tell me more! 2 hours after they wake up for the day they go down for nap #1, 3 hours after that nap is nap #2, 4 hours after that is bedtime 4 hours of awake time is a long time right now, but LO has been taking a super long nap in the afternoon, so it made me think of this

What’s people’s average wake up duration? Usually about 30 minutes. He’s a quick eater & usually falls asleep at the breast on the second side so I just put him down right after. But he is a unicorn in terms of night sleep— he just knows it’s bedtime & I can put him down wide awake & he is out in five minutes. But this past week wth him sick it’s been a bit longer, about an hour bc I’m doing allll the things to help him burp & get comfortable enough to finish nursing.

When do babies start on the 2-3-4 schedule? I feel like I remember 3-4 months? DS does the 2 hour part already but the Middle of the day is kind of a wash haha. Although he has been staying up at least 2 hours before bedtime which I feel good about. Probably bc it’s so chaotic in our house around that time 😂 but ya I think we are definitely moving in that direction at this point.

Sometimes he is already in the PNP when he falls asleep so that’s even better.

Thanks for all the “market research”! Last night she slept 10:30-3 but then wouldn’t go back to sleep for over 2 hours. This is what’s killing us. Someone said it up thread but the more she eats the worse it is. She has some reflux symptoms. I was trying to wait until her 2 month to discuss because I agree w benandjerrys’s pedi I don’t want to rush to medicate but we are in the thick of the most fussy time but I need to look into it. It’s 10:15 am here and she has slept 1.5 hours since 3 am spilt into two sessions. She’s so overtired and I can’t get her down.

When do babies start on the 2-3-4 schedule? When they go to 2 naps. For us it was about 7 months.

rebeccabunch you are not alone in finding it hard to cope with the bad sleeping. I'm dying/really getting cranky and irritated with it all. I feel like we've hit aseep regression at 10 weeks. Even naps are a serious struggle. He fights going down and wakes up shortly after only tohave to start the process over again. Sometimes I think we're dealing with reflux too but he's not unhappy and is gaining weight so I don't know what to do. My other thought is gas..... does anyone have any suggestions or supplements they use? Thinking of trying probiotics or gripe water?? I will do anything to get some solid sleep again

1. How old is LO? 4 weeks 2. What time is bed time? Usually after her last bottle of the night-around 9 3. How many wake ups and what times (on average)? 2 wake ups-one around 1am and another around 5. Then she sleeps until about 8 or so. 4. What is your least fav time to wake up and why? The 1am wake up because it takes so long to get her to sleep at first because she spits the paci out every 2 seconds. 5. If you have more than one LO, how long did it take your other(S) to STTN? DD1 was 6 weeks when she STTN for the first time. 6. Is your LO in your room? What are they sleeping on? She is in her crib at night. 7. Anything positive to say about your LO's sleep/bedtime routine? During her second wake up, she is basically asleep so it’s much easier to put her back to bed and I don’t have to worry about the paci. 8. Does your SO help with any MOTN tasks? He usually does, but he’s been sick and hasn’t been able to. Hopefully that changes soon and he’ll take one wake up-usually the first one since he’s just getting to bed around then.

pinkcat with my first we started a routine around 6 weeks. Since we already have one in place this time we follow that. This is us, too. In order to start differentiating day/night, we usually start turning the lights lower and volume on TV lower around 7 and DD1 is in bed by 8. We do the same thing with DD2. If she has an outfit on (which is rare) we’ll get pjs on her around 7 and then start calming down around 8 or so. I do one last diaper change, feed and then bed right after that. During the wake ups in the MOTN, it’s all business. Diaper change, feed, burp, back to sleep. All with minimal light so they still realize it’s night time. Once DD2 is a bit older, I’ll do bath as part of her routine just so she knows and it usually helps calm babies down to get sleepy.
