Congratulations! Glad the labour went well, even though it wasn’t what you were planning. These 9lb babies are full of rolls - they hold in the extra cuteness

Sebastian Paul arrived at 12:04 after a VERY different labor and delivery than I imagined. But he's a healthy NINE POUNDS and I think I will live also. It is NAP TIME! Will update more later. Quoting myself so I can see what I already said. 24+ hours labouring in the hospital, an epidural, an Episiotomy, losing over a liter of blood, all opposite of what I had hoped for. But I knew that I "had no idea what I was getting myself into" so I'm not devastated or anything. Only regret is not asking sooner to be checked which would have resulted in asking for the epidural sooner. Also the epidural is the only reason I was posting at 9.5cm. I was quite comfy after the epidural kicked in until he was crowning. Then yowsa. I do not regret the Episiotomy for how big his head is. He latched on well and nursed a good while a couple times on one side. In a while I need to feed him again on the other side and make sure it works the same lol. He's in a "light therapy box??" for jaundice. I had no idea there was a type of jaundice caused by incompatible blood types. (I am not RH negative) So I want to find out more about it yet. He doesn't look at all yellow. I'm just thankful they're taking care of it already and he hasn't had to leave our room and he is sleeping quietly in there.

LO wasn’t jaundiced, but the pedi did explain how it can occur with the different blood types. Except she was talking about a mile a minute, so I didn’t catch exactly how/why it happens. She did say that frequent nursing will help break down the bilirubin and reduce the jaundice so I’m glad he’s nursing well for you so far!
Hope your recovery is going well!

I'm sorry that things went so differently from what you were hoping for, but I'm glad that you're feeling okay about it. I'm sorry if the anecdote is unhelpful, but a couple of my friends had sort of a belated reaction and need to grieve their expectations for their labor and delivery experience. Just wanted to reassure you that it's very normal, if that's you.
Hooray that he's nursing well and able to stay in your room! I hope the jaundice clears up quickly and that you're recovering smoothly and well, too.

alwayscheese, my toddler was a little jaundiced because our blood types are different and also because she had a head abrasion she got during birth. +1 to what clementine said the more she poos/pees the more bilirubin she's expelling so the more she eats the better.

He's out from the light and we're headed home and I'm crying because I'm seriously anxious. We're coming back in the morn to check bilirubin levels. I know in my head that with DH ti help it'll be fine. But hormones....😕

You've got this, alwayscheese! I cried leaving the hospital, too. That feeling is totally normal, but I promise you're going to be okay. This is just part of starting your new normal as a family, give yourself grace and time to adjust.
