Hey, guise.
I know it is really slow around these parts, but that doesn't negate my responsibility to you all. I wanted to touch base with each of the IF boards to a) make sure you're aware of the thread, and b) to ensure that your wants/needs, if any, are heard. I'm not entirely sure what sparked the whole thing in the first place, but from the pieces I have gathered it seems to be that there is a specific poster on GD who feels as though admin unfairly targeted her with warnings of TOU vios, and that had a reg OG done the same they would not have been warned. This is very much so a not-our-circus-not-our-monkeys kind of thing, but the background did spark the thread.
So you don't have to go searching for it, here's the OP from Admin:
"As most of you know, there have been a few disagreements about how our Terms of Use (link here) are interpreted and enforced. We (enchanted, blanche, dc2london, bunnyfungo, lemonliz) want to have an open and honest discussion with you as to what your expectations are for levels of admin and moderator involvement. This is something that various boards may have different opinions on, so we want everyone to chime in with their thoughts.
We are willing to adjust and change if something isn't working while also doing what is best for the community. We have seen what happens when the admins and powers that be don't listen to the community.
Because we truly want what is best for the community as a whole, we ask that the moderators and G-mods make sure their boards are aware this discussion is taking place. As we have also seen in the past, sometimes smaller/quieter boards are left out of the conversation. (hawkward , ketchup , Cher , anarossi , Betweenthelines, sterling , rocknroll , honeylemon , namastebitches , misspatty , joy , Risscaboobs, McBenny, fosterlove, tj, sheilathetank, feegan, justaphase, cythe, armpants, mkrupar, dashook, ktg)
This discussion is beginning tonight and will likely last several days as we want to make sure both weekend and week day posters have the chance to voice their opinions. As such, there may be times when one or more (or all) of the admins have to step away for a bit, but we are reading everything, taking notes, and we will be back to respond. "
I did comment in the thread to make it clear that site-wide discussions that blow up fracture our (IF) community. So far, it doesn't seem like that is going to be the road that thread travels down. I also suggested that everyone stop treating this whole forum running thing like it's super srs bsns. I'm from the camp that, for the most part, boards establish their own culture and are pretty good at policing themselves. In general, we (collectively) are just super small and don't require the level of moderator presence/enforcement that larger forums with higher risk of attracting trolls and/or insensitive twats do. If you're interested in reading the rest of myfranzia encouraged proposal, it is on pg 3 of the thread.
I suspect a majority of you give approximately zero fucks about this whole thing, so long as they don't burn the place down. That's totally fine. The point of this post is just to give you all a heads up that a discussion is happening, to assure you (without you having to read 6 pages) that shit is not currently hitting the proverbial fan as it normally does with these discussions, and to encourage you to speak up if there is something you feel you want to say. If you have any questions/concerns or would just like me to be aware of something that you'd rather not post in a site-wide discussion, please drop it in hurr or shoot me a PM. My job is to make sure what's left of IF is represented and heard, so please don't stay silent if you have strong feels about something. I gotchu.
xoxo,
Ketchup
