What are you using on her? I got a couple of different brands to try out just to see what I would like. I think thirsties size 1 covers are bigger than the others. Newborn Rumparooz fit decently but were still a little big in the beginning. My favorite for when she was still around 7 lbs were blueberry capris (and still my favorite at her current weight). Comically though I have 2 blueberry AIOs that are newborn but are definitely too big right now. Rumparooz fit a little better now at almost 9 lbs but I still am not impressed with the way the thirsties fit. Its been kind of fun figuring this out 😄😄 We have the Rumparooz NB covers with Osocozy better fit inserts. The gaskets don't really even come close to closing around her legs tightly, but she doesn't really produce much waste right now, either, so even with a big poop, we haven't had a blowout problem. It's definitely a lot of fun to figure this out with everyone's help! 😊😊 Are you making sure to push the fabric in the rise snaps up? That makes a big difference in how snug it is around their little legs. It's kind of crazy to see how it changes things. |

We have the Rumparooz NB covers with Osocozy better fit inserts. Yup, she's just tiny. She was just shy of 6lbs at her weight check yesterday. Even NB clothes (Carter's brand!) don't fit her well yet. For some reason I thought she was over 6 lbs. So teeny!! Her birth weight was 6,6 so she's dropped a few oz. Should be growing from here on, though!! |

Tell me about doublers. Lyra is a heavy wetter and I think we need to start adding them in. Which ones should I use? Brand/material recommendations? What's the big difference between hemp and bamboo? Do the doublers go under the prefold (against the cover) or on top (against baby's skin)?

Do the doublers go under the prefold (against the cover) or on top (against baby's skin)? Halp a guy out I prefer bamboo bc you can put it right against skin. Hemp tho is thin and hecka absorbent. I remember doing the hemp under the prefold or I would sandwich a microfiber insert for a pocket (so hemp mf hemp, then stuff). Hemp doesnt wick away fast so I think that’s why you wouldn’t want it close to skin BUT it’s been years and I could be wrong there. |

I like hemp. They're super absorbent, but slower to suck up moisture than cotton or mf so I put them under the prefold. The ones I have are from AMP-they work well enough and they're cheap.

I have Alva bamboo inserts and some hemp from best bottoms that I bought used. I use the bamboo during the day for naps or for her usually shorter stretch of sleep at night. I have been using the hemp for her 6-7hr stretch of sleep at night.
I always wrap the insert in the prefold.... Here lately I have been using a flour sack towel in a kite fold and I love love love how that has been working. It is also oddly satisfying to see it all nicely folded and tucked and snappied.
Like PP said, hemp and bamboo absorb more slowly, so having cotton on top which absorbs super fast will keep her from flooding and soaking through the cover of leaking out a leg. At least that's the hope.

Hep me decide if I should buy newborn covers and prefolds. I have small GMD prefolds and one size flip covers, plus a big box of size one disposables. (We do a combo of cloth and sposies bc this will be our 3rd and we are always on the go with my older two.)
A lady is selling 6 econobum newborn covers and 14 newborn prefolds for $25 through a local FB mom swap.
Should I add these to my stash or just go through my size 1 sposies and let baby grow into the small GMDs?!?

Would you get NB size sposies if babe doesn't fit in size 1s right away? Imo, if you're comfortable enough with using cloth then I'd get the covers from the lady. You'd probably spend a similar amount of money on the disposables anyway (if not more). Doesn't hurt to be ready for a smaller baby and they're probably going to remain resellable when you're done with them.  |

Any estimate on how big this one will be? I have used our newborn covers from 7 to now 10.5 lbs. And I think they will still work for a while. The newborn prefolds are getting tough to snappi on her but they are still working well. Even if they only work for a short time. 25 is a great deal and you can always resell them! |

Thanks Rama and nuggetrn for the feedback. I think I’m going to go for it. My biggest baby was 7lb10oz, so it is reassuring to hear that the covers are still working at 10 lbs. |

I really want a blueberry Capri cover in this pretty bird pattern because these are by far my favorite covers.... But I chose to cloth diaper for money saving purposes and I shouldn't buy it 😥😥 Lol.

That’s the biggest problem with cloth: it lures you in with the appeal of savings and then quickly becomes an spendy proposition once you are addicted to the cuteness. Tricky!!! |

I overspent on cloth with #1, but after three kids I am sure I'll end up having saved lots of money.
I've also gotten over the appeal of new prints... so I vote, buy what you love NOW because after awhile you'll become meh about it.
OR MAYBE THAT'S JUST ME
