EPA is shutting down the office that studies the effects of chemicals on children’s health. Seems like a smart idea 🤬

This looks like a great idea. What could go wrong with someone dressed like this in schools. This actually made my stomach turn. And it hasn't settled. I am horrified.

Mueller is proposing dropping charges on Gates. I am guessing there is a tweet here I can't say because stupid work - but wow.
It seems like his information could really burn this whole thing to the ground.

I’ve actually been seeing something similar floating around FB lately- train veterans to be teachers and arm them. Kill two birds with one stone How about no... I will home school my children if it comes to that

New York's Lt. Gov feels differently. Lol NY is thirsty AF for business. Birmingham and Virginia have also invited delta to change their HQ. Atlanta can suck it

You're thinking of 10 Things I Hate About You. You’re right. But it still seemed appropriate Gabrielle Union is lovely. Stacey Dash is not. Lolz.

I keep thinking about the mental health side of the gun debate. Hearing more and more about the kid in FL it was clear he had issues for a long time, and had tough things going on at home. Did he ever get any emotional/psychological treatment for anything? A local story this weekend has made me make the connection but I haven't seen the media make it...and I doubt the incident is national news b/c there was no gun. TW: murder {Spoiler}A 22 yo went into the local suburban library on Sat morning and stabbed a 24 yo to death- 20 times. They didn't know each other. Residents say its been known that he had MH problems, neighbors were worried about him. One of my coworkers lives nearby and has similar aged kids, some with MH issues and she said its been impossible to get services for them once they turn 18 if they aren't willing. All I can think about is what if he had an AR-15. This is in MA, so maybe it was harder to get and he couldn't or maybe he didn't want one. But we need to make a MH system that actually works. People shouldn't have to suffer with these things.

45 hasn't tweeted in a couple of days. I don't know if I should be relieved or worried. He’s back this morning and seems panicked: Edited to add: He’s also quoting Fox News directly. Someone insert the Headdesk Miss Piggy gif here. (how do I add gifs from tapa? I’ve never been able to figure it out.) http://instagram.com/p/BftXD5SlF2S

I can't with this facist fuckery.
The Supreme Court has ruled that immigrants, even those with permanent legal status and asylees, do not have the right to bond hearings — effectively meaning they can be held indefinitely.

stringy - He did receive some mental health treatment as a minor. I'm a little unclear about what exact issue you are discussing w/ regards to mental health services access. I'm not an expert in FL's mental health services, but for minors, it's typically possible to get them access whether they have private health insurance or not due to Medicaid & my understanding is there were social workers involved in getting him counseling. As adults, though, it's harder to get access to those services b/c typically you lose Medicaid access unless you have been deemed a person w/ disabilities, which can happen if you have MI but it's hard to get that kind of diagnosis/status. Regardless, for almost any adult in most states (given some exceptions), you can't force someone to receive mental health services, and for good reason. There are long histories of people being forced into institutions and being deprived of their basic human rights due to MI or assumed MI. I'm not sure if I'm making sense or responding to your post at all. Words are hard. Part of his (45) 'they put them in mental institutions' schtick is really pissing me off because of this. because its like 'we'll fund it but only if we can lock 'em up' There are other ways. I get really squicky when they talk about denying someone for a firearm solely based on their mental health. My kid is on the spectrum, dx with ADHD at 5, Aspergers at 9, he received treatment for both until 18. When he decided he no longer needed it. (it was closer to 19 because I made him take his adhd meds until graduation). He is and always has been very very legalistic. Like I told him it was the law to get him to keep his shoes tied when he was 3 and he has kept them tied since. But those 2 dx could impact him if he wanted to purchase say a hunting rifle (he doesnt he's pretty squeamish). Plus all his medical history is now available out there. I'm speaking in mostly hypothetical here because a)he doesnt hunt, b) has no use for guns and c)NO ONE NEEDS A TACTICAL RIFLE. But as someone who could be impacted by this, it gives me...pause. Because where do we draw the line. thats pretty rambley I know and I'm not saying we dont need to expand checks because we do, but there is another side that gets left out of that conversation.

One of our local high schools in planning a walk out on March 14th. Instead of discipline them, the school is trying to find ways to keep them safe while they do this. The school released this: More schools should be doing something similar instead of punishing those who just want to be heard

I'm not sure if I'm making sense or responding to your post at all. Words are hard. I wasn't going the route of forcing services - I was going the route of making them much more easily available, affordable, and less stigmatized so if someone needs help it doesn't require jumping through hoops to get it. It just feels way too easy to remain untreated, fall through the cracks, and end up in crisis. Unless you have someone else (with considerable resources) advocating for you.
