Here’s my novel.
I lost a bit of my mucus plug Wednesday morning, but didn’t have any other symptoms before going to bed around 9:30 Wednesday night. I woke up around 1 am to pee and also had a little diarrhea. I felt a little crampy once I got back in bed, but I wasn’t sure if it was just an upset stomach. I started to sense a pattern with the cramps coming about every 10 min and I just couldn’t sleep so I went out to watch the hockey game with MH. By about 3 or 4, they were definitely starting to become more painful and were around 5 min apart. I lost more/the rest of mucus plug then too. I took a shower, we packed everything up, and then relaxed on the couch until leaving for the hospital.
We got into triage around 6:30, they hooked me up to the monitors and checked and I was 5 cm. Idk if this nurse was extra rough or if that’s the norm, but dangggg the cervical check was super uncomfortable. I had declined them at my last 2 appts, so this was my first. Contractions were getting much more painful and I had a brief moment where I thought I might vomit. 20 min later they were ready to move me to L&D room and I stood up and felt some ridiculous pressure way low. I got a bit freaked out thinking that if things were this painful at (what I still thought was) 5 cm, then how was I going to make it med free, but it turns out I was further along than I realized. Nurse wanted me to sit back down so she could check me again but H said nope, she’s already up, lets just walk to the room. So my water starts to leak as we’re walking and once I’m in bed again she checks me and I about hit the ceiling. They said I had a bulging bag, but the next contraction took care of that and it broke in quite the dramatic fashion. She never actually said I was complete, but all of a sudden everyone was running around grabbing things and calling for the dr. She got there pretty quickly and I started pushing. I pushed for 30 min and then L.eo Jo.hn arrived at 8:36am! 8 lb 3 oz, 20.5 in of pure sweetness. But that ring of fire is no joke. MH cut the cord and we did skin to skin while they were stitching me up (2nd degree tear). I had a lot of bleeding so I was on pitocin for a while. First IV infiltrated and the nurse blew 3 more before another nurse finally got it.
We chilled in recovery for about 5 hours, baby got his bath and shots, he nursed a little, and my parents visited. My mom was supposed to be there for delivery but they were about 5 min too late after driving 3 hours. I felt so bad. But it may have been a good thing bc MH said I was screaming a lot during pushing, which I did not anticipate I would do but I clearly did bc my throat was sore after. He said everyone told him L&D is nothing like the movies, but that mine actually was, including some swearing which is so not me at all, but *shruggy guy*. H was an absolute godsend and an amazing coach. He stayed so calm and supportive through the whole thing even when I was doubting myself. I am so glad I prepared for a natural birth because they said I wouldn’t have had time for an epi if I’d wanted one. I truly did not anticipate going early or that labor would go so quickly, but I am so glad to have this sweet little guy in my arms.
