Guys please encourage those giving up their firearms to turn them in to a PD or ATF, not sell them to another person. The idea is to get them off the streets.

This is good in theory, but people have thousands and thousands of $$ invested in guns. Obviously people are more important, however, it's not just as easy as saying turn in the weapons. What if VW, when the emissions issue was announced, just told everyone to turn in their cars with no reimbursement? So even if we can get beyond the "don't take away my guns" stance, we have to get down to figuring out the $$ part of it as well.

Bill Clinton's former special counsel is on C-SPAN having a major go at Jim Comey. Apparently he wrote a book about Comey throwing the election.

But that doesn't mean we can't still encourage them to turn them in. There are buyback programs too. Every single gun that is out of the hands of civilians is a step in the right direction.

Mitt and Marco Rubio have similar spinal conditions. They don’t have one?

CNN Money is reporting that as a result of the tax cuts, US businesses have given out $5.6 Billion in bonuses and raises. Whereas shareholders got $171 billion from stock buy backs. So much for this tax cut helping middle America. 😤

I say this as someone who works in the finance/investment sector. Trickle down economics and "Reaganomics" don't friggin work. I hate hate hate the narrative that giving money to wealthy people will somehow improve the financial situation of everyone. Nope! Bahhhhh.

I'm willing to be that the amount of gun owners financially able to take such a loss is minimal and the $50 buy back programs are a joke.

All right well I'm fine with dumping a ton of money (maybe partially from the defense budget?) into buybacks, I just want to ban the production of semi automatic weapons too.

Corporations are answerable to their stockholders, so yes the profits are going to go to the shareholders. And its not like they didn't say this from the beginning. Raises/bonuses for the employees? Nah dude we're beholden to the investors thats where the majority of the profits are going. They aren't altruistic in that respect.

Guys, mo Brooks is questioning whether the school, school system, and local law enforcement did enough to keep those kids safe. He wants those answers before making any moves in Congress.

Yeah bc when someone busts in with an AR-15 the school counselor should just go out there and talk him down 🙄 He also says he knows how those kids feel because it happened to him. He just doesn't want to do anything. Blame everyone but yourself for not keeping these kids safe and move on.

I get that people spent serious money on these weapons (believe me, much to my disappointment, DH is a weapons enthusiast, I get it). If gun owners with a conscious can't forget the money they spent, I'd rather they keep them in a safe location than sell to an unknown entity.
DH never uses his weapons, keeps them stored in a biometric safe that needs 1 of our thumbprints to open, and the limited ammo he has is in another safe. I would love for him to get rid of them, but I don't want them to be sold to someone who will be less responsible.

But what happens when a perfectly responsible gun owner becomes an unreliable, volatile or dangerous gun owner? (ie comes back from war with a TBI or develops a substance abuse disorder.) I'd be willing to invest in a robust buy back program.

That's what we need some celebrities and Rich people to throw some money into: gun buy back.

I'm trying to get to the bottom of this capital B boom but it looks at first blow like Mueller just indicted a lawyer for a bunch of oligarchs for lying to OSC about contacts with Rick Gates, some of which he may have recorded

And quite honestly, I am at the point now where I DGAF about the money you may be out. An AR-15 has no fucking place in a civilian's hands, period.
Give it up, be an adult, and move the fuck on with your life.

I hate this bullshit about making schools safer with things designed to keep guns out, but not actually limit the fucking guns.
The school community we try to build where students feel free, safe, happy, and ready to learn should not have to become a prison so you can avoid dealing with the actual issue.

I want the assault weapons off the streets. Obviously a massive buyback as incentive is the endgame but the baby step of public acknowledgement that no one needs these things is a powerful symbol.
I refuse to try to empathize with the worrry one might have over the $ invested in their assault weapons.

IDGAF how much you have 'invested' in your arsenal. You dont fucking NEED it. Its a want. If you can't be a stand up human being and turn in something thats sole purpose is for hunting humans, then you have problems.
I'm not talking about a ONE handgun for personal protection, I'm not talking about a rifle or shotgun you use for hunting deer. I'm talking about the guns that you use to go shoot pop cans out in the middle of the damn desert and shoots 30 rounds in a matter of seconds.

Which is why DH got rid of his ARs after Newtown (through a valid gun dealer that does rigorous BG checks) at about $3K each. A bit different than the buybacks that offer $50.
