I don’t know why this show makes me cry so hard, it’s just a tv show. But I’ve literally been crying the whole time and the tree scene just put me over the top.

I wonder if we're finally gonna get more on his brother now with that preview. Seems like they just dropped that & moved on.

Sometimes the camerawork on this show drives me nuts. I was so dizzy and could barely watch the scene when Jack was talking to the boys while he was working on the car. Did anyone else notice that?? I hate when they film like that.

This was a really tough one. My (step)dad's funeral was about a year ago and it all just felt so fresh. I thought they did a good job.

I didn't get too emotional this episode, but the thing that got me the most was Jack's coffee cup in the car. Just the idea that something so normal and everyday is suddenly one of the only things that you have left of someone.

Super emotional episode for me. I felt it as a daughter that lost her father at 14 and wondering how my mom didn’t fall apart. And watching it as a 33 year old and wondering how I could get through that as Rebecca if that happened to me.

I really really loved the whole episode being tied to that car. I have so many memories from our car rides; short rides and long rides. I have memories from rides in my grandparents cars too. I can remember the smell of their car - smoke. I hated it, but it’s the only memory I really have of a smoke smelling car so it would instantly put me back there if I experienced that again. Also, when I am kid free in the car, which isn’t too often, I love to turn the radio off; not just because the silence is SO amazing and refreshing, but I love the sound of the turn signals, because they remind me of car rides with my grandparents. They never had the radio on and as a kid I hated it, but I am now very comforted by the sound of the turn signal in my car.
One of my favorite parts of the episode was when Jack was talking to the salesman about all the things that would happen in that car, as they switched and showed us all those tiny (and big) things happening over the years. I LOVED that part. So well done.

I call BS on getting such a great deal on the car though. C'mon, no salesman is going to hand you a car for a sob story.

I liked this one but H was home and watching with me so I had to hear how it was "laaaame" and "why do I want to watch such a sad show?" from the peanut gallery.
I really thought they did a good job showing Rebecca and the kids at the funeral; the kind of fuzzy, fading camera work. Really illustrated the point that it was all a blur for them.

I loved this episode and seeing how he got them the car they wanted and all the memories in the car. It just showed how great he was. I also loved that Rebecca finally got to see that he was fearful he just knew he had to get it together

I loved them driving over the bridge at the end and Kevin grabbing Randall while in the car.

Yes I liked the funeral editing too. I liked that we couldn’t hear anything being said but we could hear the rustling of the leaves on the trees and maybe birds or something.

I didn't get very emotional on this one. A little teary with her talk with the doctor, but that was it.
I remember Rebecca telling Kevin that he was getting his cast off in a couple days. I agree that previews of the funeral had him with crutches though. At least I thought they did. Someone go check that out. lol.

Why did they keep zooming in on the cup in the car? Was it just because it was there the day of the super bowl or what?

Why did they keep zooming in on the cup in the car? Was it just because it was there the day of the super bowl or what? It was just like it was a reminder of the last time Jack was ever in that car. Just a typical come back from the grocery store with a car full of kids and stuff, and all of the business of everyone getting out and grabbing things and Jack grabbed Kevin’s crutches to help him, and so his coffee cup was forgotten in the car. Then everything happened and the next time Rebecca noticed it was going to the funeral. I wouldn’t be surprised if it intentionally stays in the car for awhile.

I wasn't sure if it was just that or if she'd find out there was booze in it or something.

This episode was harder for me to watch than the last one. Jack so reminds me of my dad, except my dad was never able to beat his addiction, so we lost him in a different way when I was in high school. I always imagine what life would have been like if he had stopped the drinking and drugs. He passed away from cancer when I was 25, and his death was hard on me. At his funeral I remember wondering how hard his death would be if he had still really been in my life as the father he was when I was a kid. Anyway, this episode dredged up a lot of old feelings, and now I’m rambling. I cried through most of the episode, and it probably doesn’t help that next month will be 10 years since he passed.
