I love and am totally stealing the idea of having a basket of dollar spot toys handy for when I'm stuck under a nursing baby. woodenshoes Your DS and mine would be BFFs. DS will choose to play with something on wheels 99% of the time, and at 2.5 years old knows more construction vehicles by name than I do. Maybe our gift "from" baby should be car-related.

DH bought DS a very expensive Lego City set. Its not from the baby. Its from us as a Congrats, you're an awesome big brother gift. DS bought the baby some rattles many moons ago and I think we will probably make a big fuss over him wrapping those and giving them to baby. At his sibling class at the hospital this weekend, they had the kids make little picture frames that the big siblings can put their own photo in, and have mom and dad tape inside the hospital bassinet so that baby can "see" their big brother/sister. I liked that idea too, particularly since DS probably wont be allowed at the hospital at all. Aww we have our sibling class this weekend and have to bring a picture so I'm wondering if that's what we're doing!

katietopaz, Our DS's definitely sound like they would be BFFs. I think we have about 200 Hot Wheel or Matchbox cars and I think DS knows the names of most of them. I know very little about cars, he picks most everything up from watching videos of cars on YouTube. You can not go wrong with a car for a gift for DS...I guess it makes gift giving easy for the time being.

I...hadn’t even thought of this. Much like apparently I haven’t thought of anything beyond the fact that I will soon have two kids lol. Is it bad that I thought a baby brother was a great gift? If I do get gifts I’d like to do an “exchange.” I’ve been eyeing these knitted stuffed lovies for the new baby bc I think they are cute and they also donate portions of the cost to charity but damn they are expensive. www.cuddleandkind.comFor DS, he is obsessed with anything with wheels and we definitely don’t need more toys but we just got him a track for his hot wheels and he is obsessed. So maybe we could get him something small like that. Or maybe a “big brother” book. I have no idea. This is making me realize how unprepared I am for everything.

I’m digging the cake idea. My kid would be sooooo into that. My MIL is a retired cake decorator. Maybe I can talk her into making a little birthday cake for new baby.

Okay, I am not doing anything besides making sure that I'm not holding the new baby when/if my other kids come visit. But... the taping their photos to the inside of the bassinet idea is pretty cute.

We bought my daughter (she is 2.5 yrs) a Corolle baby doll a few months ago and planned to use to to announce the sex of the new baby, but we decided not to tell. The gift is already wrapped, so we will give it to her from the baby.
I like the idea of a craft bag for when I'm nursing the baby. DD's spirit animal is a koala, so I expect a rough transition.

I think I might have just accidentally gotten DD a gift from the baby tonight. She asked my mom the other day if she would buy her a mermaid barbie doll and the 2 gemstone dolphins she was missing. I told DD if she kept her hands to herself this week, I would buy the mermaid doll as a reward. I also told my mom that I haven't seen the dolphins she was asking for, and I didn't think they existed. Well, I went to toys r us today and picked up the mermaid doll, and saw one playset that came with the missing dolphins. I ended up getting both and spending a lot more than I was originally planning. I was thinking of waiting to give her the dolphins for her birthday in July...but the more I think about it, the more I think I'd rather it be a big sister gift.

We're going bigger than planned too. Instead of a couple trains, we're getting a whole damn train table (a neighbor's hand me down). He'll still just get the trains from baby brother, but I think the tracks and all will make a good distraction in those early days.
