kleigh I believe the babies are learning about object permanence. For a long time, they would think you would disappear forever once you were not in their sight. When B was going through this, what I did to help him was play hide and seek. Get behind a couch or a wall and let them see you do it. Then disappear quickly then pop back out and say boo! I feel like it helped B to realize "ok mom isn't here but she always comes back".

M like to play hide & seek now. Except she tells me where to hide. Then she counts to 10 and comes looking for me. She'll look in at least 5 different places before she finds me. She walks around saying, "Where's mommy? Is she in here? Nooooo. Is she over here? Nooooo. Daddy, have you seen mommy?"

Someone talk to me about toddler tantrums. OMG. In the last few days B has been throwing awful tantrums when he's pissed off and frustrated. It's mostly when he's playing and something doesn't go his way. I really have no idea what to do. I try to calm him down and talk to him but he will throw whatever he's holding (toy car, block) and cry like his world is ending. I think the fact he isn't vocal doesn't help either. I'm sure that's adding to the frustrations. He's not even 2 yet. The thought of this going on for another year makes me want to puke.
And this is why I drink.

That's adorable tgrimes!! My nephew is really bad at H&S. He hides but when you go to look for him, he jumps out and yells "YOU FOUND ME".

waitwhat That's a totally normal tantrum. If he's still freaking out when you try to help, I'd just let him be, as long as he's not hurting himself.

So re this leap.. I felt really bad on Saturday when we were at the birthday party. C fell asleep and we put him in our friends daughters room. I was checking in on him every few minutes, especially at the 30 and 40 minute mark since that's usually how long his nap lasts. I just didn't want him to wake up in an unknown place and freak out. Well I missed his wakeup by probably a minute and he was crying his poor little head off and had tears streaming down his face. It took him a long time to finally settle down and he kept having a random wimper for about 15 minutes after. Poor guy. I am definitely going to be more cautious about this separation anxiety now. Makes me not want to leave him at all.

At this age, they don't really get "reasoning". I would attempt to help, if that doesn't work just wait it out, and then comfort and process when it's done. We ended many tantrums with nursing. As they get older it gets easier to help. Also threenage tantrums include stomping to their room and slamming doors while crying like their world has ended. Much fun.

He usually sends himself to his room and will lay in bed crying for a bit before coming back downstairs happy again.

I try so hard to be there when they open their eyes from their nap otherwise they have been flipping out and then stay sad/whiny for hours after.

I'm so livid you guys. The plaintiff's attorney in this case is such a pathetic asshole and he just did one more thing to try to screw me over. I'm trying to be calm and professional but my blood is boiling and let's just say he'd better hope that court officer is nearby when we get into that room together.
Idk if anyone is going to survive this trial. TIL that I'm really fucking high-strung.

waitwhat letting them tantrum is probably best, but I have always made a point, whether B could talk or not, to tell him it's ok to be frustrated or angry but let's work through the feelings and come up with a solution. I very often ask B what the solution is if he is losing his mind. Sometimes he tells me he 'just needs a minute'. Ok kid, perfect. Actually make it 2 minutes, one for you and one for me.

I'm sorry @cheshie06, I hope you can either get it out or get a prescription to help! I'm sorry too tgrimes, i hope the urologist can help. waitwhat we are knees deep in tantrums over here. I usually let him be if he isn't going to hurt himself. Sometimes that calms him down because he's just looking for my attention. If he's frustrated with a toy or while trying to do something, we've been asking him to stop what he's doing and say, "help please". That works some of the time. Then there's times where he just has to learn the hard way and what mom says goes, he doesn't get a choice in some decisions. On Saturday he threw a fit because it was time to go in the house and eat dinner and take a bath. He just wanted to be outside. I walked him in the house and as soon as we got inside he stopped crying and found a toy and was completely over it. I just try to remember that he's still learning, doesn't always comprehend certain things and doesn't have the vocabulary to voice things yet, so until we get there, we deal with tantrums when they happen. This phase will pass soon enough. Until then, we drink! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
