I got some advice and I think we will be sleep training, at least foe nights, in the next few weeks. We can't go on like this.
Also, does anyone else's baby scratch their head? J scratches himself all the time and it looks awful. He has little cuts all over his face. I clip and file his nails twice a week. I don't know what else to do.
He also has horribly dry skin around his mouth and cheeks. We put baby aquaphor on it but he rubs at it and I'm afraid it's going in his mouth. Any other suggestions on what to use

I'm on a pumping break at work. Man I hate pumping. I give EP moms tons of credit.
E has been really fussy and not interested in eating for a few days. She's still making enough wet diapers, but I don't know what her deal is. I hope she's over it soon though.

king26 DS scratched his head a lot but he had/has eczema pretty bad. We got a special oil ointment for his scalp at like 4 months...I don't remember what it was now though. (It was prescription.) Super helpful, I know. ETA: we did use California baby eczema shampoo/body wash on him, which helped. It's not cheap though. And Cetaphil lotion works really good for his itchy skin.

I'm going to check out that shampoo and body wash

I put coconut oil on R’s scalp when it gets bad, but it doesn’t completely resolve the problem. And, we use aquaphor around her mouth. There is nothing I’ve found to make the nails less sharp - cutting and filing does nothing.
When we took T to an allergist at 9 months, I found out that baby eczema and allergies are often linked. For baby eczema it was recommended: For laundry to use clear and free laundry detergent, do an extra rinse and no dryer sheets. For skin: use cerave, baby eucerin and another that I forgot. For really red, rough spots use hydrocortisone.

J gave us a 5 hour stretch last night for the first time in a month. It felt glorious.

I just found the general skin care sheet from T’s allergist. I guess we need to stop using aquaphor on R’s face. Oops.

My 3 yo has eczema and we use aquaphor 2x a day, but really what’s been most helpful is daily allergy meds. I don’t know how young they’ll prescribe those though. DD has a little redness on her face from drool, etc. and I’ve been using lanolin bc I’m not too worried about her ingesting that since it’s safe for nipples.

Last night was just a repeat of every night except now she is waking up screaming and won’t go back to sleep unless my nipple is in her mouth. I lost count how many times. I mean I’m at a loss here, is something wrong with her??! She isn’t showing signs of illness or distress except an occasional cough. I feel so #new right now.

jt2378 ☹️ No advice but I’m so sorry. N was up every two hours. DH is off today so he took most of the night after 2 (til 6) so I could theoretically sleep but they canceled me at work and I was up every time anyway bc room sharing doesn’t really allow for noiseless wake ups. So tired. Just glad I wasn’t called into work. But! He rolled from back to belly today! He did it like 5 times! But this means swaddling stops today, right? Idk wtf to do for sleep now- he only sleeps well - one good nap a day- while swaddled.

* * * My grandpa passed away this morning, it was peaceful and he was surrounded by family. I am sad but I know he's no longer suffering and is finally with my dad. We have to start making funeral arrangements and that sort of thing so I may not be around much this week, but I'll try to check in when I can.

addymac I would personally wait to see what he does in the swaddle. I stopped swaddling T around 5 months, because she was trying to roll in it. But, she had been rolling before I stopped and wasn’t fighting the swaddle. cali I’m sorry for your loss.

He has been trying to roll into his side in the swaddle for awhile so I had been keeping my eye on him but he had never made it very far. So now I’m nervous. We will see

Have you talked to the doctor? Or have you thought of sleep training? We are going to have to do something soon.

My son did this a few weeks ago and after a week back to normal but his clothes are tighter.

king26, no I didn’t mention it to her pedi because of course it wasn’t that bad then. She didn’t really sound on board with sleep training yet and I don’t know if I’m ready yet. I might wait till 6 months if I can

So naps sucked today. I don't think J is feeling well. His eyes are glassy, he doesn't want to play, he didn't eat much, and he's so snotty. No fever though. He took 4 30 minute naps and that was it. His bedtime is 8 but he just passed out on me at 715 for bed.

jt2378, I keep thinking there is something wrong with A too. He does the same thing recently. I could usually pop the paci in his mouth when I know he’s eaten recently. But the last few nights he’s forcing me to nurse back to sleep. Are you close to leap 5? We are in it now and I think it has something to do with it. He’s extra clingy to me and MH. I went to brunch with some girlfriends today and was gone a few hours. When I came home he saw me, he freaked out and started crying so hard! It was like nothing I’ve experienced with him.

LT for commiseration! It says we are 10 days away from leap 5 but I feel like we have been early on the other leaps so maybe? Ugh sorry you are in a similar boat.

cali I am so very sorry for your loss. addymac I would say it might be time to stop swaddling. I stopped using the sleep suit becuase H was waking so many times. It seemed the sleep suit was finally making him uncomfortable. I put him in footed pajamas now and he loves to roll to his side to sleep. The rolling does wake him though, not always but sometimes. jt2378 I am sorry to here about the non sleep. H was doing this and still is to an extent. No paci here and he doesn’t want to be rocked. I gave to nurse him. I am thinking the 5th leap has something to do with it too. I don’t think the dates are truly an exact science. (At least for us)

A seems to hit the leap early as well. It’s like he either in a leap, having a growth spurt, having teething issues, etc. There is only like one unicorn night in 10 that he doesn’t wake up every 2 hours. I’m not ready for him to go into his nursery yet, so I need to just stop complaining about the sleep.
