Also, even though Harry is further down the line of succession to the throne, will Meghan still have to follow all the rules that Kate did regarding her wedding dress?

Love this Royal talk. I finished The Crown a couple weeks ago. I'll admit I never really paid attention to the Royal family until Will and Kate got married so I'm still #new at this and currently trying to navigate my way through how one is ranked. Possible dumb question: because movies always seem to portray a King and Queen together, I just assumed that when a king or queen gets married, their spouse becomes king/queen. I realized this isn't the case in British Royalty? Or is it? Because on the Crown, Philip had to convince Elizabeth to even give him a prince title. Don’t quote me but I think the title of King is higher than Queen so Philip couldn’t be King because Elizabeth is the top. Isn’t he referred to as the Royal Consort? Or was? I know he’s Duke now.

Because Elizabeth is in the royal lineage, she gets the higher rank. Having Philip become King would place him higher than her. I haven’t watched the crown but I’m assuming he asked to be prince because he was born as Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark and didn’t want to be just a duke. ETA- curiosity got the best of me. Wikipedia says he abandoned his titles for Greece and Denmark to marry elizabeth and was granted 3 different titles at their wedding ( one being Duke of Edinburgh). He wasn’t granted the title of a british prince until 1957.

I like that Meghan has been wearing slacks for some of her engagements. Kate typically only will wear skinny jeans or athletic pants for very informal events - she seems to prefer skirts/dresses/coat dresses when working. Nothing wrong with that. I'm just more of a pants/slacks person, so I appreciate seeing Meghan go that route for several occasions so far. Hope she keeps up the slacks/trousers trend!

leatherpants, whatsit, thanks, that makes sense I guess. Off to spiral on more Royal family stuff. I was going to watch This is Us tonight, but maybe I'll watch an episode of The Royal House of Windsor.

I really really enjoyed The Royal House of Windsor swim. I watched another doc on Netflix too but I can’t remember the name now.

But someone needs to get her to the Royal tailor to fix those damned coats. I'm not even close to a fanceh person and I don't even like how they look. I’m new to protocol but doesn’t she have to wait for the Royal Tailer until she is married? UO is I don’t mind the oversized coats. I’m just weird. I like having room to bundle up without feeling constricted. UO I don’t dislike her outfit at all, I feel it was appropriate for the event. Not super relaxed like skinny jeans but still functional around the kids to squat on the floor and not worry about her assets flashing the crowd.

Her hair in that side picture looks like a messy knot I could come up with. Is that really how she wore it? Combined with that top, it is....... not what I would expect from a future princess.

I also love the big group hug - and that it was Harry's idea. I think those two are cute together.

Kate will not technically be queen, she will be queen consort. It's how they indicate that she's not the titled one. Informally, she will be referred to as "Queen Catherine" but her technical title is "Queen Consort."
I like Meghan's style overall. I'm not a fan of much of what Kate wears, though I find her maternity looks better than a lot of her non-maternity looks.

Regarding Prince Consort and Queen Consort...around the time Prince Charles married Camilla it was also announced that when he becomes King she will be known as Princess Consort, not Queen.

I think too, as much as everyone wants to compare Kate and Meghan it’s apples and oranges. Meghan can have a more relaxed style, if Kate started wearing pants she would probably get called out for being too casual. One of them is going to legit be a Queen and one isn’t. There are such different sets of rules for both of them.

Was Kate doing official appearances between their engagement and wedding? I feel like Meghan wouldn’t be sent on appearances if she didn’t have full access to the royal perks like tailors/stylists whatever but so far I’m underwhelmed. I also think in 10 Years her pictures are going to look a lot more dated than Kate’s

Wasn’t Queen Elizabeth’s mother known as Queen? Why the change? Without googling and taking a guess, because she was the mother of the Queen (Queen Mum). I’m guessing because Camilla’s not the mother of the next king, and the divorce and stuff they are keeping her Princess level.

Wasn’t Queen Elizabeth’s mother known as Queen? Why the change? I wonder if it has to do with them both being previously married and divorced

Meghan jumped in fairly quickly.

Wasn’t Queen Elizabeth’s mother known as Queen? Why the change? A lot of people do not want to see Camilla with the title of Queen Consort. It was felt that the marriage would be more accepted if it was announced that Camilla would never hold the title of Queen.

Wasn’t Queen Elizabeth’s mother known as Queen? Why the change? Queen Elizabeth's mom was Queen Consort while Elizabeth's father was alive. They "made up" the Queen Mother thing so as not to demote her by title (Elizabeth approved it). Camilla is not going to be made Queen, though many think Charles will go ahead and make her queen once he's king, due to public sentiment about her over the whole Diana/Camilla thing as well as some lingering people upset that the future king married a divorced lady. It was all about optics.

I'm pretty sure Elizabeth's uncle would be rolling in his grave if Charles still got to be king while married to a divorced woman when he had to step down from his title.

Is it a cardigan buttoned all the way up? I can't tell from the pictures, the first makes it seem like it, but the second just looked like a weird seam. This is the top from Theysken’s Theory. I'm pretty sure my mom has something like this in her closet and she's not not exactly the most stylish I think her "stylist" is trying to play up her American-ness, which seems to play off as "Middle-Aged Midwestern Mom" to me.
