I think DD2 is going through her first growth spurt because she has only been going between 1.5-2 hours between feedings tonight.
Question for EP’ers. My supply was going pretty good until the past few days. I was keeping up with demand for the most part. The last few days I’ve been lucky to pump 1 oz in a 40 minute session and DD2 is drinking 3 is per bottle. I’ve upped my water and calories and started using lanolin while pumping to help with nipple pain but not sure what else to try. I was thinking of making some lactation cookies today. I made them last time around and not sure if they worked or not but they were tasty so I’ll give it a go again. With DD1 she wasn’t gaining weight so we supplemented from about 1 week and with my low supply I had to mix what small amount of breast milk I could pump with formula at each feeding. I was hoping this time would be easier since I started off so strong.

First of all, 40 minutes sounds like way too long of a pumping session. Your poor nips! I would keep them to 15-20 minutes but just pump more frequently. How often are you pumping? Are you waking MOTN to pump?

Are you waking MOTN to pump? Every 3 hours including MOTN. If I only do 15-20 min there are only drops of milk in each cup. Right when I got home I was getting 2.5-3 oz in 30 minutes. I’ve extended each session by 10 minutes as I’ve been getting less and less each session.

You are going to signal to your body that you need more milk produced if you cut your pumping times and increase frequency. One thing my IBCLC recommended was power pumping, which there are a lot of definitions for but her version was sitting in front of the TV for an hour and pumping during all of the commercial breaks. She recommended doing that 1-2 times a day. Is it taking a long time to get a let down? Have you tried using a hand pump instead of an electric pump?

For me it was no side effects and worked. She also prescribed it without an office visit.

I’ve honestly never felt a let down with either kid. And I can’t get anything with a hand pump. I’ll try power pumping this morning. I’ll really try anything.

I’m glad it didn’t for you jessijean! I was diagnosed with IGT last go-round, so I know low supply and pumping drops. Have you tried massage while pumping? That helped me get a decent amount more. Goat’s Rue supplement is the one that seemed to help me most. I also agree with the suggestion of a power pump go signal your body to step it up.

Before it was to soften up any hard spots but now my boob is always soft but I am still massaging just in case. I will definitely look up that supplement!

I never had any luck with pumping either. Don't be too hard on yourself and remember your mental well-being and happiness is important too.

Try not to stress (I know it easier said than done). I only see the results of upping my water intake the following day shoot for (120oz) I would pump every 3 hours around the clock and for 15-20 mins. Try to do you more skin to skin and rent a hospital grade pump if possible. Milk tea is also pretty tasty and you can get at most grocery stores. Hugs pumping is suck a mind fuck. My supply should be established by not and still goes up and down.

Why can I never remember how I did this...
My milk came in last night. Do you nurse on both sides every feeding? One a feeding? As much as she is spitting up I don’t want to push her to eat too much, but should I be shooting to hit both sides each feeding? I’m not much of a pumper, never had an issue with supply, so I don’t so much want to feed on one side and pump the other...
It’s so easy to forget all this stuff between babies!!

Offer both sides at each feeding. Start with the one she last ate from (since she likely won't empty the second). If she turns out to be a light eater she might end up only needing/wanting one side, but for now offer both.

I think it depends a little bit based on how your supply is. I have micro-supply, so I always nurse both sides all the way to empty. But I know friends who have beautiful supply and alternate sides. And if you try that but the other side gets too engorged in between, then you know to try something else. For those with great supply, the hakka pump might be something to look into. You suction it onto the breast that baby is not nursing on and it collects milk.

If she nursed from left then right, I'd offer right then left. I need to order myself a Hakka this time around. Last time I didn't know obv how my supply would be and it turns out I am a milk factory. I used to let down into rags on the other side. This time I'm looking forward to collecting that liquid gold!

Guys my nips are so bruised and cracked I'm about ready to start EPing like I did with DS1. It's severely painful.
Before I toss in the towel are there suggestions you have for severely wounded nips or reasons why I should keep torturing myself?
I'm feeling desperate.
I am planning on seeing a lactation consultant tomorrow (if the roads aren't too icy) but I thought I'd get advice from other mamas here too.

I am planning on seeing a lactation consultant tomorrow (if the roads aren't too icy) but I thought I'd get advice from other mamas here too. nipple cream is the only thing I can think of... before after in the middle. I would lather my nips with it whenever I would think of it. And allowing the air to get to them. I would walk around topless after feeding (since that’s when my boobs were most empty and least likely to spray everywhere) The ease of no bottles was enough to keep me at it. The thought of having to a)pay for formula, b)pump all the time, and c) lug around bottles everywhere kept me going. Eventually after the first couple weeks my nipples got the hang of it and the pain lessened. Don’t feel bad if you have to give him a bottle here and there to give your nipples a break. MH nearly forced me to do that with DD when I would be in tears from the nipple pain. And honestly, it saved my sanity and my nipples quite often. If you’re worried about it effecting your supply, you can pump when you do that.

I'm already slathering the nip cream on all the time.
So how long did it take before your nips adjusted and didn't bleed?
