Happy NYE. Tell us how you’re doing! Any NYE plans? Any resolutions (besides losing baby weight).

Baby boy is doing really well. Almost 6 weeks and coming out of the newborn fog and acting like an actual baby. He’s still loud as fuck though. Starting to grow out of some NB clothes, but only the onesies that were his sister’s.
E is still struggling with her sleep, but otherwise she’s pretty much adjusted to life with a little brother.
MH has made the adjustment pretty smoothly which I wasn’t really expecting. Even he said it has been easier that he thought it would be.
We had planned on having a couple of friends over, but they got the plague. We May go to a family friendly thing in Old Town Alexandria, but we may be too lazy.
Resolution is to take better care of my health. I need to eat better for my blood pressure, not to look skinny. I want to remind myself my goals have changed.

Hey mamas! I've been MIA for a few days because we're at our in-laws where it's loud and kid-crazy and I'm trying to be present. M is doing well - had her longest sleep stretch last night, 5 hours (she's 4.5 weeks)! It was glorious. She's getting really good at keeping her head lifted and has become so alert in the past week. I can hold up a toy and get her to engage with it, which makes hanging out much less boring! In other news she's dealing with a crop of pretty unattractive baby acne - sorry baby girl. My emotions have been pretty calm lately, though we'll see what happens when H goes back to work on Tuesday Physically...ehhhh. I've definitely had a weight loss regression over the holidays. Going to get that straightened out after we get home tomorrow. My New Years goal is to give a lot of attention to a writing project I completely neglected during my pregnancy. I'd also like to watch less TV and spend less time on my phone. Happy new year to everyone!

Little B is 4 weeks today and doing well except for a sleep strike. He is all about cluster feeding and not letting me sleep. But he is growing and was roughly 9lb 6oz yesterday when H weighed him at home. I’m just ready for him to start taking naps during the day again. We did clear out his newborn clothes yesterday and he is solidly in 0-3mo. He’s getting too big too fast.
H starts his new job next Monday and is really excited. I’ll still have three weeks before I go “back to work”. I have no clue how I’m going to WFH with B home with me.
My goal is to survive I guess. I really want to get back to my normal clothes by summer, but my current issue is my hips got wider so it’s hard. If I can get this kid to unlatch I would like to start walking on the treadmill again soon.

No plans for NYE besides trying to sleep and praying N actually settles tonight. And not killing my ILs. They’ve been here since Wednesday and aren’t leaving until tomorrow (they are in a hotel but are here a lot). I love them but it’s just overwhelming right now, especially when N wouldn’t settle/kept me up pretty constantly between midnight and 4am. My mom will be back on Tuesday to help, thank god. (My ILs are older and haven’t taken the best care of themselves so they can’t do much in the helping out department. Lots to say, though... including MIL constantly wondering why she needs to use sanitizer before she can hold him. Uh, sorry, you have your cat at the hotel. You need to clean before handling your newborn grandson.) N’s next appointment is on Tuesday. We gave him his first sponge bath last night - he hates being naked but did ok until close to the end. Hope you all have an awesome NYE and a great 2018 ahead!

Oh and question for you all - anyone else suffering from super dry hands? Between the constant hand washing, sanitizer, washing pump parts, laundry... they’re in terrible shape. Any hand cream recommendations?!

Happy New Year! C will be 3 weeks tomorrow. It's been a smooth transition but I keep calling this "my fake life." DH has been home and the big kid's schedules have been usually light. In 2 weeks, DH is back to work and I will have to figure out our new normal. I'm home from work until September 2019. I'm itching to get out of the house and get back to a routine but every time I do much of anything, I start bleeding badly again.

I canceled our NYE plans to go to my sister's because my 4 year old threw up yesterday but she insists it's fine and wants us to come (it's only 4 blocks away, I won't make it to midnight.)

Any hand cream recommendations?! Yes. Dry everything right now. For me some of it could be that I have a wood furnace and we are pumping a lot of heat out of it right now. It's been getting down to -24 F at night and so we have had to really keep the fire blazing right now. The other reason I think is that I haven't kept myself hydrated enough. I am definitely not drinking enough liquids especially since I am breastfeeding.

E will be 4 weeks on Wednesday. He has been gaining weight appropriately, about an ounce a day. He is doing much longer stretches at night between feedings. About 2.5-4 hours at a time. His latch is correct about 50% of the time which is a big improvement from when he was born. Unfortunately, he has been cluster feeding every night for about 3 hours so I don't always get relief. He has decided that his most preferred way of falling asleep is nursing, so I feel like he is on my chest all the time. He still sleeps a lot during the day but if we don't get him to sleep when he is tired he becomes a mess. He never wants anyone but me so DH tries to help as much as possible but most of the time it's a failure.
We haven't ventured out much right now due to the cold and there hasn't been a real need. Starting this week I think that will change with the holidays being over and N going back to school.
No NYE plans for us tonight. I have mentioned before that my mom lives with us and she has invited a few of her friends over. We will be bowing out especially since E is a hot mess anytime between 5-10. DNW to deal with a cluster feeding cranky infant around other people.
My goals for this year is to hopefully get back into my regular clothes as soon as possible. I am in that weird place where my regular clothes don't fit but I can't really get a way still wearing maternity clothes. I go back to work in March and I really need to be able to dress up again. Right now I am fine in my comfy clothes but that won't work when I go back to school. I don't know how I plan on achieving this as I don't really have any time to workout.
Add me to the list on thinking I'm done bleeding and then I start again. I'm noticing that my incision pain comes back at night too.

Question. I have been trying to pump every now and then (when he isn’t cluster feeding) and have only got 2oz total each time. This week I am leaving him with H for awhile to go to the dentist (and probably other errands). He normally eats A LOT. How do we handle bottles when I just have 2 oz bags frozen now?

I usually pump right before I leave and get about 3oz. I do let DH give formula when necessary. C doesn't seem to have a problem. He's only had about 2oz 3 or 4 times a week.

You can combine them ahead or just have H keep adding as needed so it doesn't get wasted if you don't need it. I thought you only had 2 oz total.

Hey all - Happy almost New Year!
Doing well here, G will be 3 weeks on Thursday. He doesn't have the hang of nighttime sleep yet - some nights we get 2 hour stretches, but the next night he is up every 30 mins to an hour. Feeding-wise, he's getting better with his latch, although he pretty much destroyed my nipples in the beginning so nursing is still really painful bc I'm still healing.
A is such a sweet big sister to him, she is always asking to hold him and comes running to tell me if he's crying.
I haven't thought much about resolutions for this new year, will have to come back and update this one.

rooskie, start with just one bag of 2 oz. I know all babies are different but 4 oz seems a lot for a month old. Breast milk adapts and changes to meet the needs of baby and typically it's unusual to need more than 4 oz at each feeding. Your H can always defrost more as needed. And once it's defrosted you can't freeze it again. And breast milk it liquid gold.

It does help but the cluster feeding makes it difficult to heal between feedings.

Any hand cream recommendations?! Yes it’s so bad with newborns because of all the changes. I don’t have great recommendations as I just use Aveno and my hands are dry still. I use my belly cocoa butter cream sometimes too.

But if I have multiple 2oz bags, can we combine 2 into a bottle or does H have to feed him 2 oz at a time? You can thaw several bags and combine them. Also for future reference, you can combine them prior to freezing too. As long as you refrigerate between and freeze within a day or two, the milk is fine. Also, since 4 oz is a lot, if you don’t think you’ll be gone for 2 feedings, you can try to break the frozen milk in the bag in half and only thaw half of a bag. You need to use anything thawed within a day so anything leftover feed and top off with the boob.

Officially new year here on west coast, but I’ll do my update next feeding!!
ETA:
Ds is 3.5 weeks and gas rebounded with his growth after the hospital like a champ. He had gained 2 lbs and 1.5” between weeks 1-3 per our dr appt Thursday. Since he’s now just about 10 lbs I can stretch night feedings, which he has allowed a 4-4.5 hr, but then it’s 3 max thereafter for the night. After X-rays, the dr thinks his head shape migrated due to his favoring one side so we are working on him laying on the other side now until our 2 mo FU.
I’m doing ok but still get sore very easily. Only 2.5 weeks left of lovenox! Woot! I’m terrified of the first real day alone with both kids because dd has been testing her limits and not listening, which is usually the source of my pain when I have to physically remove her from a situation.
I don’t do resolutions. Sure I would like to get back to pee baby weight. Though I’m nearly there, I didn’t lose the last 5-10 lbs until after BFing with dd so I think it will be the same. I do want to get healthy, and strong though, so I’m hoping to going Stiller strides again in a few weeks.

rooskie, I found this helpful when I was preparing bottles. It at least gave me a ballpark of how much each bottle should be. kellymom.com/bf/pumpingmoms/pumping/milkcalc/Also, I found it was good to freeze in multiple quantities. Sometimes 1 oz, sometimes 3 oz. So I could pull out what I needed and eliminated any waste.
