I was just happy when Cadence was able to identify 80% of the letters in her letter book the other night. Like I was legit throw a party excited because we've been working on it so long. When she writes her name she groups her letters together, 2Cs a D, 2 Es, etc., at least she is trying though. wineallthetime I would check with your district, most won't let them start early, but then once in school you could always look at gifted programs, which may start as early as 1st or 2nd grade. If he really is smarter than average then you would want him with kids on his level, otherwise he might start acting out due to boredom.

Legit LOL My mom thinks my kids are the next Einstein. I have no idea why either since it takes 4 times to get their shoes on the right feet, but sure. Right? I let him run with it until he wants to send C to kindergarten early (I mean, it's not that early. He doesn't meet the cutoff by a few months) because he's convinced that C won't be challenged because he's so smart. He claims that C needs to be really challenged and slightly behind his peers because it will make him want to work harder. He said, "He'll see his friends know things he doesn't and he'll say, 'wow, that's cool! I want to learn all of those things like them!'". Ok, H... ok. I mean, he spells his name correctly only 50% of the time. Pretty sure a lot of his daycare friends can spell and write their names, it doesn't seem to motivating him to do the same! It's a fine line, for sure. Our friend's mom is a long-time educator I've talked to a lot about this. She hates having kids go too early because she says if they find themselves behind, it can ruin their confidence and turn them off of school forever. X makes the cut-off by a handful of days and I am thinking of holding him back and doing TK like we will for Dude. I think of it as giving them one more year of childhood. They have the rest of their lives to work hard and feel challenged. Besides, TK doesn't really sound like a cakewalk. They go for three hours in the morning, then immediately do "kindergarten connection" for the next three hours where they do the exact same with the kindergarteners are. If they're ready, they can test right into First grade for the following school year.

The chick cleaning my teeth this morning said her 17 month old is "advanced". I hope I didn't noticeably cringe. Someone in that anti-vax nutter group was bragging that her kid is smart because he wasn't vaccinated. He says three words at 18 months. Um...

I need to go to the grocery store for lunch but I really don't want to. I've already made my list but I don't want to get up.

Legit LOL My mom thinks my kids are the next Einstein. I have no idea why either since it takes 4 times to get their shoes on the right feet, but sure. My mom is like this too. I do see very good verbal abilities with both of them, that seem better than most peers, but other areas where they seem way behind to me. Atticus STILL hardly uses eating utensils. And can write his name somehow? Even though he can barely hold a pencil correctly, if at all. He's still not good about managing his emotions and listening, but maybe that's normal. It seems excessively difficult for him IMO. I suspect Dude might have more aptitude but X will actually do better in school because he is more amenable to instruction. Yes, J is amazing in speech. His pedi is blown away. But neither can write or even attempt to draw anything but scribbles. I think Matthew will be my problem kid in school. He just gets so bored so fast.

You will know because of how well he scores on standardized tests. That's what prompted them to test me for GATE. I did get bored a lot in school when I was younger, and my second grade teacher wanted to skip me a grade (I hear they don't like to do this anymore). My mom refused, but they met in the middle by agreeing I would go to the third grade class for an hour a day during reading instruction (that's the subject where I became frustrated and bored with my second grade class). It worked out well from what I remember. I don't know how much they like to make those arrangements at this time, probably depends on the district and school.

Do his teachers do any conferences with you all or evaluations? What is the age range? Now that E is with kids within 4 month age range I can see he is totally average where before i had no comparison. It can't hurt to take him to the school evals and get an objective answer. I mean 1 consideration is that he may be the same developmentally as an august baby (or well advanced) and fit into that grade or he may be just like his peers and fit in better the following year. Now that I know so many kids in the same boat as him it is easier for me to process. I started this conversation mostly because I thought MH was funny. We will of course seek advice from his teachers and such as we get closer to making a decision. I'm really not that worried about it at this point. YH probably got the idea from your MIL

I think Dude will be challenged because he'll be at a magnet school with STEM instruction.
If he's anything like me, those subjects will be not come easily.

My mom immediately said no (she had primary custody), without consulting my dad. When my dad found out, he hit the roof. He was in gifted education as a child and he thought it was the absolute worst. My experience with it wasn't great either so I'm inclined to agree skipping a grade is preferable.

Yeah, L is like the bully of her daycare room. Whenever I tell people they're always shocked because she looks so sweet. She's SO quiet and timid around people unless she knows them well, so most people see the sweet little girl who just smiles and wants me to hold her. Everyone is surprised she has a secret violent side lol.

Letty looks so chill in all of your pictures and videos. I never would've guessed her for a hitter.. I seriously look at her and wonder how in the world does she stay still, Charlie would've been divebombing off that couch.

@peach, I never knew you were homeschooled. At what point did you move to the public sector ? I begged to be home-schooled while I was in kindergarten. We had just started at a church and all the kids there were home-schooled and I was jealous that they got to do stuff while I was in school. My mom quit her job and I was home schooled for 1st-8th. I started public high school my freshman year. When I was in 6th grade my mom start nursing school, my brother moved out and my dad worked all day so I begged to go back since I was alone 19 hours a day. My mom refused until 9th grade.

Such a dd: We've been home all day. Charlie has been up in his crib yelling for the last 45 minutes. I'm going up to get him now-- a nap is not going to happen. I'm not sure how he's not tired. He's been up since 545. Also, the earlier I wake up, the earlier he wakes up because he's got some supersonic hearing. I really want to go out, and just get Starbucks or something, but the thought of getting both of them into and then out of jackets and into the car seats sometimes feels like it's just too much. Think I'll be making a solo trip when Mh gets home in a couple of hours. Does your Starbucks have a drive thru? Sometimes if I just want to get out of the house but don’t want to hassle with everything I will just warm up the car, then load everyone in (usually in their pjs) and throw coats and shoes in the car JIC. The car is warm enough and we don’t get out until we get home. And I park in the garage, but if I didn’t I’d just throw a blanket around them when I carried them out.

Ok mwhip and peachsmama, wallpaper *has* evolved past bad 80s and 90s floral kitchens 😉 if I wasn’t in the midst of a manicure I’d spam y’all with pics of gorgeous wall coverings. I like it in more formal spaces (dining room, formal entry) and in ‘jewel box’ spaces like a powder bath. I love grasscloth, too, and woven silk wall covering is the most gorgeous stuff ever. I think the biggest thing with wallpaper is that it has to be applied well and have the walls prepped properly for easier removal later. Also, modern products are much better than the old stuff. Ok, I’ll get off my soap box now

I can't get on board with wallpaper. When I was married to my ex, he owned a small lake house that had the WORST wallpaper. I removed it all and it was such a bitch. The house we lived in had 3 kinds of wallpaper in the small bathroom, it was awful, we didn't even try to remove it after the lake house incident, we just put paneling up over it. I'm sure whoever bought that house, took the paneling down and wondered WTF happened there. We have wallpaper in two of the bathrooms at our house now and I want it gone SO BAD. But my dislike for wallpaper removal holds me back. Hopefully this summer, when we get our savings account built back up, we can remove that shit. The wallpaper I’m looking at is like vinyl or something, like those decals people put up. You don’t have to do all the tedious removal like regular wallpaper.
