& it's gonna be clear, thank goodness so the kids are having field day, then family picnic at 11:45. DH is leaving work early & we'll be joining ds. The PTO is having a fundraiser through subway today so makes sense to get lunch with them so I'll pick up our food a little earlier just in case it's busy.

Sonofab, I forgot to put sunblock on DS which the principal had sent out a thing last night suggesting you do before sending your kid to school. Maybe she should have sent that out this morning so it's fresh in the memory he should be fine though

Anyone here familiar with field day on the elementary school level? DS wears glasses & has a pair of sports "goggles" he wears for soccer/basketball, etc & I'm wondering if I should have put them on him at the risk of his regular glasses getting broken but idk if it means them just being outside sitting in a circle singing kumbaya or doing like legit physical activity relay races but idk if that's when they get older. No one has specified. It's just from 9-11 today & I think he's a little more responsible now vs the beginning of schoolyear when he first got them so idk. UGH I wish I thought of this sooner so I could have inquired.

It's my sorta kinda last day of work for a week. I will technically be "at work" next week while I am at a conference, but it's a different kind of work so it will be nice to get away from the day-to-day ritual. Not looking forward to being at the airport at 4:30am Monday though.
DD is home with me again today, but is at school right now. She keeps asking if she can have some of her school friends over, but there is a week left of school and she is never going to see these kids again b/c her preschool is in a different district. I am a terrible mom b/c I really don't want to invest time her making friends with this kids when they don't live near us and she's going to make a lot more friends in school this fall that are local.
DH got an email saying he didn't get the job he applied to. He is bummed. Hopefully something better will come along soon.

NamasteBirches I remember having a field day when I was in elementary but, it's been so long I'm sure it's so different but, I do remember running a lot and other physical activities. It would be nice if they gave you a better idea so you could prepare! misspeansmama sorry your H didn't get the job. That's always really disappointing

So I guess theyre giving people the option of signing their kids out early after the picnic but I told ds I strongly suggest he stays. He's been saying he's really gonna miss his teacher this & that & being kind of emotional. There's no reason for him to come home early. He had told me that was his plan the whole time. Yea okay buddy. I'm sure he would ask us why this that & those people were leaving so I wanted to talk to him ahead of time. I think it's best he gets the full day so he doesn't think he missed out on anything & then yells at us about it.

You've probably mentioned this before, but I have the memory of a gold fish. He's gonna be 6 at the end of August. He's finishing up kindergarten.

he didn't break his glasses lol It was good I guess. He's not good at retelling what he did. He said there was games & running around but mostly he 'forgot' when we asked him at the picnic which was 45 minutes after it ended.

DS was totally clingy to his teacher after the clap out for the 2nd graders. Holding her hand. He was confused why we went to the classroom afterwards. Sorry! I just wanted to say bye. Geez!! I wonder if she finds him a little annoying at all. Every single day he has to hug her goodbye too. Like he will ignore me to hug her first. Lol

I made my DD explicitly say goodbye, early on, instead of just storming towards me at pick up. Now she's all waving and byeing and waving again. Teach looks like 'sure kid, bye' but I think it's cute.

There's a few 3/4 day weekends here & there but the only main break is Christmas-new years mostly unless I'm forgetting something.

& we are done with school! I'm laughing at dismissal. There was only a small group from kids. Majority went home after the picnic. The principal said she saw ds helping his teacher clean & the preschool teacher chimed in saying oh yea! She was telling him you don't have to do this & he was insisting. Now if only he would do that at home!

So yesterday DS came home with so.much.stuff. His backpack was probably 10 pounds. They did cleanup & one of the things were these math workbooks. These really nice mcgraw hill thick workbooks. I skimmed through & didn't see any pages used. There was a note saying they did use it at times but they are theirs to keep. I have a kindergarten workbook I got last year that we still didn't finish so now I have these two to add that will be a nice thing to do during the summer. I was thinking of getting a 1st grade book but now with these, there's no use. I have so many resources. Now to see if he will actually work with me. Ha!

OH! & next year's teacher was not on his report card. All year I thought it would be because there was a blank section that has a space that says PLACEMENT FOR NEXT YEAR: & all it says is 1st grade. Well, no duh! Ughhhh I can't believe it's gonna be like the way they did kindergarten. I thought that took longer because it was new students coming into the school. We found out probably a week or two before school started. What a bummer. I was going to ask his teacher if she knew but I totally forgot. I was too focused on remembering to take a pic of ds & her & spaced. Womp womp

So after the picnic, we got put on the waiting list for the home depot truck & luckily were able to pick up the deck boards before DS got out of school. DH has been doing that. He is very excited to finish it up. I envision him not coming to bed until it's done.
