Last year, my oldest & H made his two preschool teachers birdhouses. I *think* he wants to do the same this year, so we'll be work on those probably this weekend. I should probably ask him...

No teacher ever expects gifts, really, but they are a kind gesture. Please don't feel that you have to do anything. I promise we can't rhyme off which students gave us gifts and which didn't.
As a teacher, I get way too many mugs, scarves, pencil cups, bags, flower pots, bars of soap, fancy lotions... I have some gorgeous wall art that has been made and gifted to me by students and it all lives in DD's room or playroom because it's lovely and child-friendly.
I do not need another kitschy decal for windows with a cute saying, necklace, journal, set of pens, etc. Basically all of the things they market as teacher gifts, we are all DROWNING in. The gesture is sweet, but it's just not useful unfortunately.
I have always liked gift cards to book stores (any that are gifted I always use to augment my classroom library), coffee shops, pet stores (I always have class pets), all-purpose stores.

I do a good Christmas present and will also drop in with random things the teachers like throughout the year. Just as it comes up as a surprise kind of thing (consumables, mostly). I don't really like how they do the teacher appreciation weeks here and so other than having the kids fill out the sheet on why they love their teacher, I don't do that. No end of year present, specifically, but will often do a note or a card thanking them when they are exceptional.

We give Starbucks.
I teach high school and never get anything. Honestly a kid actually thanking me and wishing me a good summer is nice.

Last year I did a bottle of wine with a magazine wrapped around it. We have the same teachers this year, and now DS2 will have them the next two years. I think I'll make it our standard gift.

This is dd's last year in her elementary and I want to do an office gift for school staff. I'm thinking a gift basket from Edible arrangements and then something separate for her teacher and aide's. I'll probably do gift cards along with a card.

I did $25 Target card for Christmas and I'll probably do $25 Amazon for end of year. I also have DS write a nice thank you letter.

I just got my son's preschool teacher an Amazon GC because of this thread. 👍 Thanks!

I'll probably do gift cards along with a card. I would recommend a gift basket of things that will not go bad in a day. Edible Arrangements are cute but if it doesn't get eaten, it doesn't last long. Everyone in a school setting gets a ton of food every year at this time.

I'd do something more general like Amazon or Target. I'd only do specific food/drink stores if I knew that the teacher goes to those places; I've seen Starbucks gift cards given away because the recipient doesn't go or doesn't drink coffee/tea.

As a teacher, I love gift cards. Target, Starbucks/Dunkin Donuts, Amazon, and teacher/craft stores are my favorite. I usually use them for stuff for my classroom.
Also, if the teacher went above and beyond write a quick email to the principal/director explaining their awesomeness and CC the teacher on it. That really goes a long way to making us feel like we're making a difference.

Towards the end of the year, we did a favorites poll in class and the kids asked my favorite food and drink. I said pasta and coffee (because I couldn't say wine). I received many gift cards for The Olive Garden and Starbucks. 😂 #breadsticksfordays

We always hear about when parents think we are doing something wrong but we rarely hear about anyone thinking we are doing well. It makes my day when my principal tells me that she heard good things about me from a parent. It seems to always happen when I've had an awful week, too, and could really use the reassurance.

My sister has always received at least one gift card to Victoria's Secret each year, which is always weird. Don't do that.

Last year in K we did a group gift. This year the room parent didn't organize one. I wasn't going to get one since we just had teacher appreciation (and also were really unhappy with her) but DD insisted so we got a mug.
