byjove there's what like a month and a half to 2 months of school left? I wouldn't worry about school too much. use it as tool in her recovery of normal interactions with the world but right now seems lije it's hindering her improvement. Talk to the school about other options as well as her doctors. Something to keep her learning going whenever she's up to it. But if its just and emotional mental drain then maybe she's going to need more time before she can go to regular school. I'm so glad you are her mom. You are doing so well in all this. I know it's hard. Be sure to take care of yourself though. ❤️

She is at school! For a few hours. If we can’t make school work, we’ll be looking at an out patient program. We really weren’t sure if school was going to happen today. We’ve opted her out of SOL’s- and basically the end of the year is testing and review, so academically we aren’t too worried, she’s learned what she will this year. It’s more if we can’t get her to school now, we are SOL (heh) for starting at middle school in the fall.

byjove I don’t know what the first SOL means but it sounds like today has definitely has some positives! Even if school today is cut short just remember she made it there this morning. That is huge!

Our state standardized tests are called SOL (standards of learning) Yes, it's dumb. byjove I am so sorry. Would it help if we got the kids together at a park to play?

Tomorrow starts our Z to A countdown until the end of the school year. It had a slow start but I feel like the last day will be here before we know it.
I was so sad for my class today. We had Special Olympics and not one child from my class had an adult there to cheer for them. The other class in our group had 11 adults show up for the 5 kids. We’ve been talking about it since February since we had multiple forms that needed to be signed, etc.

I don't know. I'm an old house lover more than most, and without more interior pictures/info about it's current condition, I could maybe see why they did it.

So I ran into DD's IEP teacher today at school and we had a brief hallway conversation where I expressed I was nervous about the transition to MS next year and she asked me if we were considering a private school? I said not really, as we can't afford the $46.5k tuition, and she said well at least she has an IEP and the school has to accommodate you.
The way these words have thrown me into a tizzy. Maybe we need to find a way to make it happen. I think there is almost no way we could get the school district to pay for it though, because she does have an IEP. But at what point is it she is barely getting by with accommodations (legally) or might actually thrive in a different setting? I think we are in a grey area. Sounds like we'd have to enroll her and then sue the district to pay, which has about a 5% success rate.

I'm fully team house, if that is a thing. That whole family seems terrible. There is a whole story on TikTok about her sister, sister's boyfriend and his brother and friends. @anneimalgreene it is her only playlist or search "don't say schwarzenegger".

byjove have you checked out all of the private schools in your area? I’d love for you to find a hidden gem somewhere. If she stays in public, I would keep going up the chain until you hopefully get the response you need. The squeaky wheel and all that. Have you spoken to anyone at the potential public middle school?

overboard , there is a very small grade 5-12 private school in our neighborhood that specializes in kids with ADHD and learning differences. We've had several friends move their kids and rave about it, so we'd probably start there. It seems promising. We honestly would have probably moved her already if it weren't for $$$. We haven't spoken with anyone directly yet at the MS, but we know the IEP teacher has been in conversations with the middle school and planning services for next fall.

I’ll be honest and say everything got much worse once we transitioned to middle school. Even with some support from staff and admin. I have had to advocate HARD for my kid. I sympathize about the $$$ of private school because we evaluated and realized it wasn’t possible for us.

The middle school is 800 kids per grade (6-8), it's really overwhelming as a parent too. The challenge is she is doing well socially. And what would changing that network look like during the school day?

byjove, I hope you are able to do the best thing for her and your family. I've been mostly checked out lately, my husband has been dealing with some big stuff lately that is coming to a breaking point mental health wise for him and then our daughter had tubes and tonsil and adenoidectomy yesterday. I came to work for a few hours to escape and check out of real life for a couple hours.

And what would changing that network look like during the school day? This is so much- has she expressed a preference as to what she would like next school year to look like? Also, I know every school is different, but a couple of our private schools that are ridiculously pricey also have some very generous tuition assistance, so it might be worth looking into if you do decide to go that route. And maybe think about it being a year to year decision based on how she's doing - maybe she tries public for 6th and then take it from there. That's a lot to handle.

We are getting flash flooding and wind gusts in my area. The kids are stuck at school and I’m stuck at work. I’m watching our cameras at home and biting my nails. We’ve already lost my favorite tree. 😭
